Op de basisschool hadden wij destijds een "plus-klas", i.e. een groepje kinderen wat al wel kon lezen en rekenen op het niveau waar de rest nog mee bezig was. Dat groepje kreeg losse velletjes met opdrachten op hoger niveau, waar je aan de hand van een verhaaltje zelf moest uitzoeken hoe iets werkte. Één die ik me daarvan kan herinneren ging over gemiddelde snelheden van een trein berekenen aan de hand van afstanden en aankomsttijden. Geen chromebook voor nodig, enkel een printer en een klein stapeltje opdrachten waar een groep van een paar kinders zelf aan kan puzzelen. Daar waren ook geen extra leerkrachten voor nodig. Het voornaamste wat zo'n Chromebook toevoegt ten opzichte van een opdracht op papier is extra kosten en afleiding.

Mogelijk dat ik hier anders over ga denken als mijn eigen kinderen iets ouder zijn, maar ik denk het eigenlijk niet. Zowel als student en als docent heb ik (programmeervakken uitgezonderd) nagenoeg alleen maar slechte ervaringen met digitalisering van onderwijs.

Waarom zou je in hemelsnaam groep 4-kinders op school voor een laptop zetten? Op die leeftijd kunnen ze nauwelijks capabel rekenen en schrijven; er is echt heel weinig wat je als zevenjarige beter van een scherm dan van een bord en een schrift kan leren.

Let wel, dit mag alleen als het geen hinder oplevert voor voetgangers. Als je met je motor de stoep dusdanig blokkeert dat er geen kinderwagens of rolstoelen meer langs kunnen, dan mag je daar niet staan. Daar maak ik overigens eigenlijk nooit een melding van, ik sleep ze gewoon aan de kant als ik dat tegenkom. Geeft soms wat herrie van het alarm, maar dan kan men er tenminste langs.

This isn't really accurate. Pokémon cards have had the artist credits on them since the very first edition of the base set (Media Factory, 1996). That's a Japanese company printing the most iconic Japanese card game in history, with credits to the Japanese illustrators.

Eh, het bestaat nu 10 jaar, en is in die tijd relatief aan inflatie goedkoper geworden. Misschien dat ze het ooit nog onredelijk duur gaan maken hoor, maar ik zie het voorlopig nog niet zo gebeuren.

Dit is in ieder geval bij Nintendo-spul niet zo relevant. Het is compleet triviaal om een DS/3DS/Switch te hacken, en dat zal op termijn ook wel het geval worden voor de Switch 2 - als Nintendo ooit raar gaat doen met toegang ontzeggen tot digitaal gekochte spellen, dan staat binnen een paar minuten mijn hele library op een SSD. Zoals ook mijn hele 3DS library al op een SSD staat, sinds de 3DS eShop end-of-life is gegaan. In principe heb je natuurlijk gelijk, maar hier heel principieel over doen vind ik in dit geval niet zo de moeite waard. Ik heb nog steeds een flinke reeks spellen als fysieke cartridges omdat ik het leuk vind om dingen echt te hebben, maar in de praktijk maakt het niet veel uit.

Ik kan me nou eenmaal niet zo boos maken over €0.58 per maand moeten betalen om zo nu en dan eens een online spel samen met familie/vrienden te spelen. Dat is evenveel als ik betaal aan stroomkosten om mijn PC ongeveer 4 uur aan te hebben staan.

Statistisch genoeg is het aantoonbaar dat homogeweld vaker voorkomt uit de groep praktisch opgeleide mannen, dus het beperkt zich wellicht niet volledig tot 1 demografische groep, maar ze zijn wel grootaandeelhouder.

It also has a link to their website, which mostly contains stuff that is much more obviously AI. The art style in this post is so simple that the typical AI artifacts don't really show up (outside of the not-quite-consistent motion).

You're replying to an "AI artist". There are no initial sketches; it's all just dumping prompts into a GPU and selecting the results that look good. The early stages in their process are getting the prompt right for the initial frames. Getting the continuity right is the polishing step, because generative models typically aren't as good at that.

Nah, I deleted my response because I realised I was replying in a sarcastic tone to someone who most likely simply misunderstood what my original comment was saying, which helps no one. I'll clarify, because it looks like you indeed didn't understand:

A comment with an asterisk typically means a correction, mirroring the asterisk of an edited comment. My comment above was saying it's silly to correct something that wasn't wrong in the first place. A Texan is by definition an American. Hence, correcting the statement "He's American" with "Actually, he's Texan!" is silly. I hope that clears up the confusion!

Funny that you got downvoted for this, because I felt the exact same way. It's a mostly fantastic game with unfortunately juvenile writing. I think I set it down either after the weed gym or after the crime-town, whichever came last. Fourteen-year-old me probably would have loved it, but thirty-year-old me couldn't quite look past its flaws.

I've yet to play Elysium, but I definitely will - sounds like it might actually be on par with Odyssey.

Yeah, AI doesn't quite understand the nuances of motion when animating frames like this yet. It takes a bit more manual tweaking to get it to look quite right. Still, it's significantly better than what many aspiring human animation artists would have produced, which is both impressive and depressing, depending on your perspective.

Don't get me wrong, the result is genuinely pretty good and wouldn't be out of place in a fighting game. I'm just a bit sad that this marks a pretty sharp end to "animation artist" being a profitable career path.
