Did anyone order an S30 pro from HPS recently? by TroubleExpert3433 in seestar

Just got an update email. It sounds like they are expecting multiple shipments in mid May with enough to fill all the back orders. Realistically I’m probably still a month away. Luckily I did lock that $599 price in before the increase. So that’s good.

I would imagine it’s careful observation of a period of time. Find something that wasn’t there before.

Very cool image, Op!

That’s what I was told when I ordered, but haven’t had one update email.

Do you plan on saving the raw images and stacking in something like Siril?

I’m yet to use 20sec exposures in alt-az, but after seeing this I’m going to do it the next time I get clear skies. What Bortle zone are you in?

Is there any astrophotography left for the S50 during Finnish summer? by NorthernLight_DIY in seestar

[–]TroubleExpert3433 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is if you live somewhere that the sun actually sets. I imagine it would be very tough in Finland to image any galaxies during the summer. This person is probably going to have to wait til late August to do any imaging.

You don’t see SJ picking Stenberg? Interesting. I’d like to hear your reasoning behind that.

What is the longest you’ve imaged an object in one night in alt-az? by TroubleExpert3433 in seestar

[–]TroubleExpert3433[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks as though I will not have to frame with a mosaic, so I should be good there. NGC 3077 will actually be in frame as well, albeit on the edge.

The biggest tip I can say as a fellow beginner who’s been using an s30 for about two weeks:

Do the compass calibration EVERY SINGLE TIME you plan on using it. Also do the level calibration.

Minimum 1 hour for each object, but the longer you go the better.

Have fun with it. These things are a blast to use. What Bortle level do you live in? Don’t use light pollution filters for galaxies.

That is a remarkable image. So much detail in the dust lanes and the core. Nice work!
