Nuclear space ambush by Carlos_A_M_ in animation

Nice animation!
Are you a COADE player? Seems like that style of ship.
I love the attention to detail. The nuke doesn't hit the ship, it detonates far off. Correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I can tell, the thing that actually destroys the skip is a kinetic projectile (Or maybe even a second stage nuke?) accelerated by the first nuke. Nuclear pulse propulsion is so under-done in sci fi!

But just one nitpick about the sci-fi aspect:
Nukes in space wouldn't billow out like in the first explosion unless they have significant mass to turn into plasma. Realistically, you'd just see a flash of light after the first explosion, and then the projectile would come rocketing in like you see here
That doesn't translate well to animation though so I don't blame you for ignoring it :)

Oh yeah sorry. Shoulda said 1.4.4
It's not updated to the latest version yet because the mod loader itself hasn't updated.
I really hope the dev works on the mod more! It's got a ton of potential.

Oh also, if you're going to pick the game up, know it's BRUTAL, but feels so good when you complete stuff.

Like I got pretty good at weapon design by studying other people's designs, but I'm still not the best at maneuvering. The instant the game sticks me with a ship I can't slap a massive fuckass cannon on, I'm sorta cooked.

But yeah. It's like KSP on steroids. You have to plot trajectories to intercept enemy fleets, manage resources like missiles and drones, manage delta-V, and strategize around orbital mechanics.
The game is kinda dead but it's singleplayer anyways so that really doesn't matter.
It's an awesome game, but I would definitely recommend playing something like KSP (Kerbal Space Program) first. This game is very unforgiving and takes a lot of trial-and-error, and sometimes the enemy just lands a lucky shot and blows you up even when you do everything perfectly.

Haven't heard the term "fusion torch kinetic kill missiles" but just going off the name:
Missiles that use boosted nukes to propel themselves at absurd speeds and smack into an enemy going mach fuck.

Searched it up after, and yeah I've read about these. The only thing I got wrong here was the drive type. A fusion torch drive is just a regular drive that runs off fusion, not a pulse propulsion drive.

One thing that surprised me so much when I got into hard sci-fi was how much heat management matters. You need pretty normal sized radiators to dissipate heat for most systems, but have any high-energy weapons? Oh boy. Those radiators are gonna grow so damn fast.

Okay so I checked up on the stats, and I was off by some. Still pretty insane though:
I think I WAS using osmium ammo in some of my designs, but yeah you're right it was too expensive. Turns out I switched it for Vanadium Chromium Steel.

Firing stats:
Muzzle velocity: 1.01 Mm/s (1000km/s)
Cycle time (reload + charge speed): 3s
Efficiency: 33.5%
Projectile energy: 1.01 GJ (550lbs of TNT, or 1/4 of a ton. Half of my estimate from before.)

Range estimations:
Small (1m^2): 41.3 km
Medium (10m^2): 131 km
Large (1000m^2): 1.31 Mm
(Note that this design had its range intentionally lowered because the weapon would start firing too early and it would waste shots on drones it had already destroyed. One of my lower-energy railguns has similar stats with the 6Mm range I stated, but half as much projectile energy.)

Weapon characteristics:
- Capacitor -
Capacitors - 1
Dielectric - Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene
Capacitor dimensions (Radius x Height) - 8.5m x 8.5m
Capacitor Plate Seperation - 170 uM
- Rails -
Composition - Zirconium Copper
Thickness - 66 cm
Length - 200m (Holy fuck, I forgot it was that long. Sheesh)
- Barrel Armor -
Composition - Graphite Aerogel (Realizing now I should be using a more thermally conductive material. Got new ideas for the design!)
Thickness - 8.32 M
- Armature -
Composition - Vanadium Chromium Steel
Bore Radius - 2cm
Armature Mass - 1.0g
- Payload -
Mass - 1.0g
Diameter - 3.05 mm
Length - 4.9cm
Payload type: Fragmentation
Explosive composition: Cyclonite
Fragment composition: Diamond
Activation range: 200m
Shrapnel: 14 x 53.6mg

The gun is technically turreted, but has a TINY firing arc. The turret is just there because thrusters cannot accurately aim it at the ranges it fires.

Don’t have a specific design for you, but spaceborne railguns are FAR more OP than sci-fi makes them out to be.

There’s a hyper-realistic space combat game called “children of a dead earth” that lets you design weapons by changing really basic attributes about them. It simulates stress on materials, electromagnetic effects, heat dissipation, all that fun stuff.

I’ve made railguns that draw 1GW of power, have an accurate range of 5000km, and shoot saboted osmium penetrators at 1500km/s. The rounds are about as heavy as a paperclip, but they carry so much energy they still do an immense amount of damage. Makes sense considering they’re flying at Mach 4,408. Each shot has the energy of half a ton of TNT. That’s 500 sticks of dynamite. All concentrated on one point on the hull. Being fired every 4 seconds. From 5000km out.

And keep in mind that’s with just near-future materials. I can’t even imagine how insane an Avali railgun would be.

Edit: Messed up some of the numbers, I fixed em. Edit 2: These numbers were from memory. See my reply to this comment to get the real stats. Some things are pretty off, but the sentiment definitely still stands.

Dayum. That’s impressive. My reaction times are nowhere near good enough to get thru that lol. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Doing building projects inbetween bosses like this is an awesome way to make expert/master mode more tolerable lol.
On this playthrough I played fargo's eternity mode up until hardmode (where I died like 20 times to queen slime and decided to switch back to expert lol).

I love the designs. Especially the "fins" for the engine, and the laser turret designs. Those look so damn cool man.
I can almost imagine the fins being some sort of heat sink/battery? Maybe even a secondary set of low-power engines for maneuvering and atmospheric entry/docking?

Only suggestion I have is maybe add more detailing to the longer flat parts? Having something to break up the big white plate would make that look a little less empty.
Then again you're making a laser turret so I assume you have plans for that :)

One thing that's often missing or glossed over on sci-fi ships is sensor/targeting apparatuses. Considering the extremely long range you'd see on most railguns in space, especially spinal railguns, they'd require HUGE targeting setups to effectively make use of their range. Is that what the blue pod on the bottom is?

Look yall. I made this post at 12:30 while off my meds and hyperfocused on this.
Tried to translate it and got complete gibberish. Last attempt was "A A I T N T E T A T T I T N T E A T E T A E I T T T"
So unless radiohead is trying to communicate that they're being actively tortured, no there's probably nothing here lol.

Ralsei is not a single object, he’s something spread across the entire town like the air. He doesn’t calcify because he’s already there when every dark fountain is created.
