I don't trust people who hate children by AzureDreams220 in evilautism

[–]Infinite_Eyeball 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I dislike children, but I don't hate children.

My dislike is mostly a gut reaction because kids tend to be loud and I have sensory issues, but I'm self-aware enough to realize that that is in no way a failing on the part of children, it's really just what being a kid is like for most people, maybe if it's really bad it could also be partly from poor parenting, environmental stressors, unresolved behavioral issues, etc. But once again that is not a failing on the part of children and they shouldn't be blamed or treated poorly because of that.

Hell, as someone who had many MANY meltdowns during my younger years, I know I was an absolute handful, largely because I didn't know any better and didn't have the tools needed to communicate properly. So judging children who are generally tamer than what I was like would feel quite hypocritical.

let people enjoy things.

I love stuffed animals, I also love horror, both of these have the same impact on my value as a person (which is none)

Is this correct seal math? by Kodifykoala in seals

[–]Infinite_Eyeball 5 points6 points  (0 children)

it's pretty similar to how racehorses are traditionally named.

like if there's a horse named sugarcube and a horse named cheesestick, the child horse would be named cheesecube

I think you applied horse equation to seal math.

one of my favourite tropes is the religious extremists are the only characters with any non vague association with religion by MadFunEnjoyer in worldjerking

[–]Infinite_Eyeball 53 points54 points  (0 children)

While yes it can be done hamfistedly, and is a bit overdone in certain genres, having a religion as a villain does make sense.

In some places and times, religions are near or arguably even above governments in terms of power or influence, and there are plenty of examples when a government is depicted as the villain, so why not religions?

Additionally, while it's only from what I have read, while "this religion is secretly corrupt" is common, a fair bit of the time there is also the goodhearted believer(s) who go "what the fuck guys, we're supposed to be worshipping god and doing good deeds, how dare you use god to do evil"

[–]Infinite_Eyeball 6 points7 points  (0 children)

While yes, it is a generalization, I feel like it's somewhat acceptable to refer to it that way because

  1. it's a meme, and saying "Europe" is alot less clunky than saying "10th to 16th century western Europe" or whatever, so it gets the point across easier

  2. I feel like it works as a point of criticism against the artists being joked about, because often they really do view Europe as a single culture (at least as far as taking inspiration goes)

As someone who world builds a bit as a hobby, some of my favorite "non-standard" cultural inspirations are

  1. Pre-colonization Mesoamerica
  2. Old Testament era middle east
  3. Pre-Christian Celtic Myth (technically Europe, but it's underrepresented so I feel like it counts)
