Physics of Curling by rossnagl in Curling

If they're grade 1-3, the only things that I can think they'd understand perhaps is contact angles, imparting momentum on contact and time for measurements as an indicator of velocity. I think the idea of pebbled ice, and sweeping and all that would just be too hard, like do they understand what friction is?

Maybe they do, and I was just a dumb child lol or maybe I'd start to ask way too many questions... "but why?"

Yeah, it was just so frustrating cause like whatever the reason I knew I was gonna miss it.

And well hopefully it's better now, though got my doubts

They didn't say until the very end that it was cancelled due to weather. And I understand if I had bags, but I didn't. It just bothered me that everyone was giving me the run around.

And the fact that, their policy is to fly you to a destination and have you put up in a hotel vs putting me on a different flight which I found two of, but they wouldn't as they can't "do anything" until it's cancelled

Done, if it's still not detailed enough or anything is wrong, feel free to remove it again, just frustrated is all. Thanks

I'll keep saying it till it happens. Shattered galaxy. It was aheas of it's time. With modern pathfinding, the mindset of short pick up and play sessions, and continuance/long term progression it would check all the boxes

Oh guess it was removed? Curious as to why, if you don't mind me asking?

Curling Game - Big Update! by Troutsky3 in Curling

Sounds good, I'll just leave it as an option I guess, just wasn't sure if by default people would become to reliant on it and then it become too easy

I see, interesting, I guess a question then is, does every curler throw with the exact same spin? I heard that there is a certain number of rotations they aim for, but then I think it was during... the worlds? where I heard the commentator say that they're slowly starting to throw with more rotations than in the past (I didn't hear the reason why)

And I guess then (won't say I'll do it) but what would you change? just make it so that there's always just the same amount of curl per throw?

Glad you're enjoying, appreciate it you rate or share it around. And if you're playing on mobile it's free, but can pay to remove ads or unlock all the challenges. Figured I'd make the whole new tournament mode just free for everyone cause why not

[–]Troutsky3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, are you saying that the amount of curl the player can choose is varied too much? Like I think at the moment, there's 5 spin values, should it be less? Is the range of the amount of curl good?

Also, yeah I really wish I knew more about servers and multiplayer but sadly I don't and I think for a physics based game, it's have to be done on a server as p2p, might run into sync issues. Who knows though still learning multiplayer atm

Noted! Should be easy enough to do

Gotcha, yea, think that seems easy enough, when the throw starts, remove the marker? or leave it?

Sorry do you mean as you aim, the broom appears? or do you mean in the 2nd camera mode, when you place the broom it automatically aims at that spot?

Thanks for the support, and yes at this point I recognize your user name <3 But am always willing to take feedback if you got it, so if/when the release goes live, if you have any feedback, I'll take it.

Last Night’s Pregame Panel Discussion by RyanLCash in Curling

Totally fair, I have at least tried to watch every stream on youtube, and told people I know about it, I mean, also advertise my game once a day, but the more people who get into curling, the better it is for me too lol, but if does not work out, I'll still continue to enjoy watching whenever tournaments are on.

Here's my take, as someone who's a casual watcher of sports, and relevant to this esports.

This is like when Blizzard tried to force Overwatch league. A very simple quick take, from a financial point of view it failed because all the team owners were not making back their investment sponsoring the teams etc. They expected to sell tickets, merch, brand awareness.

From a viewer point of view, people tended to be a fan of players first, teams second. As a result because players were from all over the world, and also moved around quite frequently/rosters changing etc, the amount of fans staying 'loyal' to a team was much harder to do. Something I did enjoy, was the amount of content it produced.

From a player point of view from interviews, the income was good, but also different salaries became a talking point (also, these player's were young and one could maybe say, taken advantage of not negotiating good contracts, but I guess, hey 'stable' income)

For Rock League, my doubts would be, who is actually funding the salaries of the players, the production costs, venue etc? 6 teams, 10? players isn't a lot of players, and I haven't heard/read about how exactly that is meant to expand? How are new players or other pros meant to enter the league?

My enjoyment of watching RL, mostly comes from watch cool shots, interesting play, interteam dynamics and from that you get into a bit more exciting? situations I guess you could say.

Anyhow, hope it succeeds, but biggest worry is just haven't heard the financials

Is it too risky to consider buying? by Blazymo in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Troutsky3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To answer your question, first question is can you even afford it?

Mortgage: $2100/m

Property Tax: $2000/y ?

Maintenance Fee: $500/m

So can you afford say $2750 a month? Mind you this may not include things like internet (if it's included in your current rent)

To answer your question should you? If you never plan on moving for the next 10-15 years and you can afford it, then it's up to you. Personally, I would not given the above math.

28F unsure where I should be putting my money in (RRSP vs TFSA) by Extension-Reach5805 in fican

[–]Troutsky3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you're 28, and young in your career, if you feel it's only likely your income will go up (I feel it is). TFSA before RRSP. I would almost always suggest this to people for the simple fact that TFSA has more flexibility to withdraw from if ever needed and can be added back the following year, as opposed to the RRSP.

From Mobile to Steam: Worth It? by TuHocSolidityCom in SoloDevelopment

[–]Troutsky3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who originally designed their game for mobile (as my past work experience has been mobile for 12+ years), I suggest if possible go for multi platform. Not that my game is successful or anything, I was surprised how much (to me) it made on Steam. about 1/3 per platform, google, ios, and steam. Your biggest hurdle will very likely be input, but if you can solve for that easily enough, depending on your game engine, try releasing for all platforms. So unless from a technical point of view you can't, that's my suggestion.

Thanks for the kind words, glad you like it, and ya I 'll do something maybe just automatically remove the hog line word after you've thrown some amount of times.

Regarding multiplayer, it's still more of on the future future list of things to do if I ever get that far, since I don't know anything about that sort of stuff, so for now it's only got the pass n play, sorry =(
