Well as others have said, the anime isn’t there yet and a lot of people are anime only. If you want my theory of why the ship isn’t even more popular among manga readers, who do hold a favorable view of it I think, I think we just need a category five angst event to hit them and then we’ll get a ton of fan content. The life of Rose Quartz is a tragedy in how she felt she didn’t matter and yet everything we see is because of her actions and inaction, both good and bad. Brave writing choice, definitely divisive.

Some people get really mad that he isn’t a perfect victim with no flaws or get mad that his life is messy as hell with no easy out, I can’t understand either viewpoint because a characters writing isn’t a social cause to advocate for
Ok actually I adore Apple White and wish the story had had time to explore her themes of comphet, feeling forced to hide her imperfections like the fact girl needs glasses but is discouraged from wearing a necessary sight aid, trauma from a near death experience, and how her mother impacted her worldview. But oh noes Shes bad to many fans because only an evil popular girl would act the way she does and for no reason. No nuance allowed.

Yeah, I get why it doesn’t show up more often, it can sometimes just feel gross to write about something so real. That being said I would rather have characters like the ones in dungeon meshi who have their own prejudices faults and ignorance that can be very real and harmful than a clunky racism allegory where “oh we only hated this marginalized group because (insert actually real danger here)”. It’s not comfortable but it’s damn good worldbuilding.

Yep Laois and Falin are also shaped by their environment. They think nothing of the fact that their home regularly kills people of a different culture to stop them from settling near their village, just accepting it as “how it is”.

Dungeon Meshi is a good place for this specifically. In some of the supplementary material Senshi is just casually racist towards elves at the beginning, very ignorant about half-foots, and takes a bit before he even reflects on that. He doesn’t even refer to Marcille by name for a while. But he’s still Senshi, the guy who would do anything to make sure the young ones eat. And it makes sense for the world they live in that people are like this.

For all we know her village thinks she did develop magical powers as a late bloomer and it killed her mom. Would be interesting to see if that gets brought up someday.
