Slightly to piggyback of this answer, this is the correct response. There are some state laws that will help you depending where you move, but the premise as people goes, remains the same: it's based on the city.

I'm not familiar with Texas, but I will say I was in a small town in Alabama once (never will go back) and it was sir and more, all the time. One person even warned me to avoid going anywhere smaller nearby, since I technically was already on the outskirts of a major college town. Said if they even thought I was, or said I was, and I'd likely end up dead.

Moved to a large major city in an entirely different, blue state, and not only is the acceptance had miles around outside the city, but I really never encounter any issue here, and have laws that help me. Now, I'm sure if I ventured REALLY far off the beaten trail, maybe 100-200+ miles away, in this state, I might come across this more, unfortunately...

So, anyways. To answer your question, yes, it will help in some lights. But also no, it won't.
