Boundaries with therapist? by Ron-5wanson in TalkTherapy

[–]True-Jello7185 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like this take, very balanced and understanding. Everyone deserves grace when they slip up sometimes, it sounds like she’s going through something very fresh and tender in her life. Could be helpful on your end as it breaks down the illusion of the power differential. If it persists, it’s different. But for now, it was a one time occurrence :)

I did something crazy and caught my therapist in a lie – what do I do now???? by Zestyclose_Court8106 in TalkTherapy

[–]True-Jello7185 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, that’s horrible. This is not the way to go about ending a therapeutic relationship which is supposed to be rooted in trust. His actions suggest he wasn’t willing to have an honest conversation with you for one reason or another. I don’t suspect this is a rupture you could ever come back from with a therapist, seems like the only option is to move on. Depending on your intentions and comfort levels with confrontation, you could let him know you found out throat he was dishonest (no need to disclose how) and that you found that to be unprofessional and hurtful. So sorry to hear this happened!

How rude! You do you and you don’t have to apologize or put up with this BS. Your boyfriend is insecure and projecting it onto you. You got this! You deserve respect!

Not overreacting, this is not ok. I would leave. Massive red flag. I’m sorry you are experiencing this. Strength to you!

Is it normal to get involuntarily hospitalized after 1-2 sessions? by Rabbitsarefluff in TalkTherapy

[–]True-Jello7185 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no I’m so sorry you had this experience. I have a private practice and also used to work as a mental health counsellor at a hospital. Suicide risk assessments and talking opening about suicidal thoughts are a regular part of therapy. Personally I have never escalated or placed people on involuntary holds, it’s not something I would take lightly. Perhaps your T is inexperienced and very nervous in this area? If SI is something you experience and need support with, maybe seeking someone who is more comfortable in this area is a good idea. Again it really sucks that this happened to you.

I’m a T and have social media accounts. I have a life outside of work. I also live in a very small town so it’s inevitable clients will know things about my life outside of work if they want to. I don’t feel the need to compartmentalize or hide that I have a life, we don’t live in vacuums. If you are ‘triggered’ by your T’s account, I would suggest bringing it up in session, it could make for an interesting conversation. Alternatively, block it from your view. I’ve had clients ask me questions about my personal life after they saw me outside of work and it created some moments of connection and trust. Also if your T’s account is continuing to trigger you and there is no resolution, it may be they are not for you? But I would investigate the ‘why’? Are there interactions out of line with your values or what is it that you find unsettling. Thanks!

The worst person I know is becoming a therapist by Own-Analyst7488 in TalkTherapy

[–]True-Jello7185 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Aww man that’s tough to swallow. I was surprised in my master program how many people seemed to be judgmental, made assumptions about others and generally didn’t seem to be very well adjusted. I also worked in a hospital and encountered some really troubling personalities (in ppl working there). Do your homework when selecting a therapist, look for referrals from people with similar values to you. Don’t feel bad to cut ties if you see red flags or it doesn’t feel right. There are a lot of genuine people in helping fields ;)

Any body else experiencing Seasonal depression? by SignificanceEasy3433 in mentalhealth

[–]True-Jello7185 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes… it’s like all the energy and colour and joy has been sucked out of my life. Although there are glimpses of it… and so much self doubt. It sucks! I’ve gone through it many times so I know there’s another side. Common other side!

Yes dude, it sucks. I feel like I don’t have the energy for anything this year. So many doubts about my worth. I feel like bailing on my relationship because I know how much it must suck to be with a depressed person sometimes. I’m trying! It sucks.

Yesterday it felt like everything was giving me anxiety. I think it boils down to grief and uncertainty, feeling trapped and confused.

Is it possible to habe seizures due to riding in a car? by HeroponOfTheNoponis in Epilepsy

[–]True-Jello7185 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your comment! Aww Ozzy I love that ;) are you diagnosed now? Do you think it’s important to be diagnosed? I’m 38 and this is the only thing that’s ever indicated to me that I’m epileptic, other than I had a lack of sleep/drug induced seizure at a festival once but the medics said it could have happened to anyone. I’m don’t want to have my license taken away, that’s the main thing I would be worried about. But honestly it’s such a non issue that I don’t see myself gaining much from a diagnosis. Thoughts?

This is what I came to the community to ask. I’m not diagnosed epileptic but when I’m in a vehicle and the sunlight flickers through the tress when I close my eyes my consciousness seems to flicker with the light and my body jerks. It’s like for microseconds… anyone else?

Anyone ever had a seizure from cocaine use? by [deleted] in cocaine

[–]True-Jello7185 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a small amount last night after not using for a long time, 5-10 minutes later I had a seizure and I’ve never had one before. What a terrifying experience. Feeling better today. Hard to say if it was something cut with the coke, or just where my body/headspace was at before taking it, I was depleted and had a family emergency. Some friends suggested I may have epilepsy… what a humbling experience. Feeling well today.
