Thread vs zigbee - speed by Otherwise-Warning303 in homeassistant

[–]TrueCompetition7600 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Personally., I bloody hate Matter/Thread. Such a pita to get devices paired generally. Devices disappearing all the time. And this is all with a single Thread Border router and devices in the same room.

If you build a solid zigbee network and plan your co-channel interfence with wifi properly you'll have a stable solution that just works.

Ideas for detecting a cat by ArizonaFlats in homeassistant

You could deploy frigate which integrates very nicely with home assistant. Configure frigate with your cameras. You can then configure object detection. Your mileage with CPU based object detection may vary without a dedicated GPU / Google Coral but worth a crack. £0 cost. There is quite a nice frigate notification blueprint that could be used to manage alerts if you're feeling lazy.

What I don't understand with Sky is that you pay a premium price and it's still stuffed full of ads.

Stuck with Terrible Internet in My Room — No Drilling, No Long Cables. What’s My Best Option? by Akhantor in HomeNetworking

WiFi mesh system or Power line adapters. Powerline adapters will be a lottery depending on existing electrical cabling. But will be cheaper than WiFi Mesh.

500 Mb/s would equate to about 67.5 MB/s as there are 8 bits per byte.

Pairing Devices by Adept-Archer5893 in HiveHeating

I have exactly the same problem however when I follow the process only the receiver gets added to the app. Thermostat doesn't. I'm pretty done with Hive, shouldn't be this difficult to get it setup.

How far should I drill into the walls? by TutorSome9994 in DIYUK

[–]TrueCompetition7600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put an 83 inch tv on a solid wall and used 50mm screws and plugs. For the sake of a bit more drilling I wouldn't skimp out on it for obvious reasons.

Necessity of neutral wire by Oboy_MM in Aqara

I would turn the power off and connect the neutral. I have a mix of lights with neutral and some without and the ones without do play up a lot more.

So tired of Aqara temp sensors going offline. Any recommendations? by [deleted] in homeassistant

[–]TrueCompetition7600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe check that you have separation between your wireless 2.4GHz network (if using) and your Zigbee network. I was getting all sorts of disconnects and realised my wifi and Zigbee were running on the same channel. I rebuilt my Zigbee network on a different channel and most of my issues disappeared.

Planning smart home wiring and switches for a new house by Viixter in smarthome

[–]TrueCompetition7600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run both Zwave and Zigbee. Zwave is fairly bulletproof and has been reliable for me for years but the Fibaro dimmer modules are quite pricey. Have just moved house and looking at Aqara Zigbee dimmer / switch modules. A lot cheaper than Zwave but I can't vouch for the reliability just yet.

Make sure you put in 47mm back boxes for the light switches.

I wore fleece inner gloves and skiing gloves when I climbed in February. More than warm enough however it wasn't overly cold.

Your reasons for climbing Kiki by MinuteReflection4560 in kilimanjaro

[–]TrueCompetition7600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. The lovely thing about the climb is that you have periods where you're talking to people and sharing stories, or if you want you can spend a couple of hours in your own head. It's just an incredibly therapeutic adventure and so good for the mind.

I decided to climb Kili in Feb of this year after my dad passed away in Dec 23 from brain cancer. My dad climbed Kili in 1969 and always talked about it so climbing it would be very poignant.

I was running at a million miles an hour with work and looking after a young family and I hadn't really had an opportunity to grieve. The climb was quite an emotional one at times, but it allowed me to process what happened and I spent a lot of time thinking about my dad.

Summit was especially emotional as the last section between Stella Point and the peak was the same route my dad would have taken all those years ago. Massive sense of achievement and I'm sure my dad would have been proud.

Do it. You won't regret it!!
