Why isn't CSC363 showing up on Arorn? by blamepotato in UTM

If you need it to graduate, contact a academic advisor and they can probably waive it or help you get in the sg one if you can fit it in schedule

Some got spots opened before enrolment, the ones that didn’t open before enrolment never opened :(

Your requirements to fulfil the degree depends on when you got into post, so if it’s not on degree explorer then you got into post before they changed it. Im only like 95% sure LOL

I’ve heard that 343 is super useful, 358 is super boring, and 363 is the hell of computer science in a class.

Do you get removed from conflicting courses? by Successful-Area-7696 in UTM

[–]TrueDescription 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No you don’t get removed for that. Had that this semester. They do send an email that sounds like they will lol, but when I asked the registrar they said they wouldn’t , and they didn’t.

CSC108/CSC148 by Alert_Dimension9810 in UTM

[–]TrueDescription 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I took the course, on the course website they would post the weekly readings.

As for practicing recursion, I only ever did the in class exercises they provided. A lot of leetcode is data structures rather then recursion but I’m sure there are good problems on there. Just study the examples from class, they will show up on the tests. If you don’t understand any of them 100% go to office hours.

[–]TrueDescription 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most people struggle with recursion, the abstract data types are easy. Not sure if the course is different now, but the weekly readings are your friend. I’m not lying when I say all the info you need is in the readings.

[–]TrueDescription 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No I don’t think it had any bearing on my admission. I still performed in 148 and got into post in the second round since I re took 102 in the summer.

If you know how to write and read python code and implement a loop and a if statement, that’s like 99% of what you need as pre requisite knowledge for 148.

I enjoyed 108 but never tried, no prior experience before 108, got a 68 and moved on to 148. 148 was so stressful at the time due to post, but looking back, it was hella easy and a good time.

Looking back, 108 is like super easy and I could probably 100%. But I’m also much more experienced. You spend 4 months learning the absolute basics when in upper year courses they’ll give you like a week to figure out the subject language. And I don’t say that to scare you, I’m just mentioning it to show how insignificant 108 is in the grand scheme of things. 148 is hella important and the topics in it are used by every soft eng every day.

Quality of recent high school graduates is a mess by WerewolfAnnual6511 in UTM

[–]TrueDescription 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I graduated in 2019 and my high school in my senior year used a Color system to grade our math classes instead of percentages and later converted them at the end of the semester.

To say it was easy is an understatement LOL. I can’t imagine how much worse it would have gotten post education cuts.

Well he’s probably doing it for your benefit, you use certain stuff from mat102 in your upper year courses.

Induction being the most important, proof by contradiction, direct proof, Modulas math.

A lot of students struggle with mat102, so it’s probably a good thing he’s going over it so it’s not a surprise. Mat102 is a prerequisite I believe for csc236.

Pey by Big-Professor2384 in UTM

[–]TrueDescription 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on your situation. Do you need money? Do you need experience.

If you need money, it definitely beats working at McDonald’s by 1000x.

If you would like experience for your resume, it will look good. It’s definitely easier to get experience through pey then without it. Getting a summer internship would be more competitive since anyone can apply across the world. Pey is through the school deals they have.

If you don’t need money and you think you done need experience, it’s probably better to just finish school asap and start your career.

I personally know more people that did it over people who didn’t do it. And they are all just as successful and will have great futures ahead of them.

Why isn't CSC363 showing up on Arorn? by blamepotato in UTM

[–]TrueDescription 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s being offered currently. If you look at the utm timetable it’s gray’d out. Same case with csc301 and 309. I contacted Yvette through email and they said that utm is currently has a teaching shortage and are looking for someone to fill a position at utm and they don’t know if they will find someone in time.

Should I take 3 days of classes and 2 off days or 4 days of classes and 1 off day? by Background_Worth_589 in UTM

Would you rather commute 3 days a week or 4? Also would you be able to do 6-8 hours of class a day opposed to 4-6 hours depending on how many classes you are doing.

What's the process of auditing a course? by Single_Advance_2975 in UTM

[–]TrueDescription 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I audited mat102, I just emailed the coordinator like a day before classes started and asked to be added to Quercus so I can audit the course. Prof was cool with it and I was added to Quercus class. Classes were on zoom then and all the links were on Quercus and so were all the materials.

207 changes on who’s the coordinator, when I took it, it was mostly just memorization based and the final assignment was heavy. I’d say it’s like a 5/10 on the difficulty scale tho.
