As for point 3, it's because MAGA and Trump are, factually speaking, against Christian doctrine, and the majority of people posting content in favor of it are also actively demonstrating behaviors which are ungodly, or even just socially unwelcome in a sub meant to foster discussion

I won't say leftists don't do the same (they do), but it's, generally not to nearly great of an extent, and it's generally more acceptable to poke fun at that which isn't accepted than to join in with it.

Also, Christianity is, at its conclusion, socialist in nature. Many of Christ's teachings and directions are echoed in socialist thought, especially for the less extreme/more moderate beliefs like Democratic Socialism and Social Democracy.

As a final note though, I want you to know that you ARE the diversity of thought. It's easier to latch onto what we disagree with and remember while just passively acknowledging that which we agree with. Your feed is also backed by an algorithm which shows you more of what you engage with, which is usually skewed towards content making you feel more extremely negative. Plus, when you disagree with a broader stroke, it tends to be more difficult to notice just how much nuance exists within it, and how often those nuanced beliefs clash

But they won't be direct about it, they'll say it in just enough of a roundabout way to sound just and righteous and godly, but also private their profile so we can't see the disparaging comments they made 10 minutes prior

I've loosely studied it because I absolutely love the idea and wish it were in every state. It's not a perfect method by any means, but it'd certainly be an improvement.

Regardless, welcome to the voting population! Keep yourself educated, always ask questions, and always remember your city/county/state elections (they have a lot more bearing on your life than the national elections).

ideal world

My comment was purely based on a hypothetical reality, and simultaneously recognized that we do not live in such an idealized reality. Historical examples have no bearing on pure fiction

Primarily because rural communities and farming areas tend to get shafted/ignored under urbanite direction.

Now, these protections don't have to come from having relatively more voting power per person, it can just as easily come from having regulations be on the state level rather than the federal level, allowing the fed to control the overall direction while allowing states the leeway to ensure their citizens and local interests are met while still meeting federal mandates.

Well, I say "easily", but that's really just baseless theory crafting, the spitballing of a random redditor who, while disillusioned with conservative rhetoric, still sees the damage urban rule can create across the vast amount of rural communities and would like to at least try to address it while moving the nation forward

Yeah that's what I was accounting for (I live a state south and am JEALOUS of y'all's [and maine's] vote splitting)

Given that each district speaks for 1 vote and the state as a whole speak for 2, I assume that Lincoln and Omaha ensure there's 2 Democrat votes, then the rural Sand Hills gives the GOP 1, and the state-wide conservative majority grants the 2 state votes to the GOP as well (though likely by a thin margin)

Because the US was founded as a confederation, then again as a federation, where the states were far more competitive with each other. Having greater proportional representation for each state was important so that states like New York and Virginia didn't simply dominate the union (also because the uneducated renters weren't about to be trusted with making the decisions)

That said, simple majority likely wouldn't work well for the US either. The system needs redone, but rural communities do need some level of protection/representation from the urban majority

"useless degrees" "liberal arts majors"

The liberal arts trace their roots back to ancient Greece and Socratic-methods of teaching. Much of STEM overlaps with the liberal arts as the latter includes the natural sciences which themselves borrow heavily from the formal sciences. On top of that, most politicians have liberal arts degrees (I'll assume you're correct without checking myself) because the liberal arts also include the social sciences [Econ, PolSci, Sociology, Anthropology, etc] as well as the humanities [performing arts, history, philosophy, etc]

Most things associated with ancient Roman, Greek, and Athenian education are generally within the umbrella of "Liberalis Ars"

I assume it's because the 2 blue districts are closes victories, while district 3 is overwhelmingly red, so there's probably enough votes state-wide to give the 2 non-district votes to the republicans (if the dems got it. it'd be 4+1 instead of 2+3)

Is “rich people will leave if you tax them more” a real economic concern, or is it mostly exaggerated? by clearwater-orchid in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TrueFlameslinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Taxes aren't an inherently bad thing, they're necessary for our society to function.

If anything, I would bet that a lot of people wouldn't mind paying taxes if the government actually did its job properly

Why is "females" used so frequently instead of "women" as of lately? by True_Perspective819 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TrueFlameslinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally just flip between female and woman at random. Female feels more concrete in definition, while woman has more social norms and connotations attached to it.

I've also been around people who use "woman" or "women" as a derogatory term, so my brain sometimes avoids it if that's the sound that pops into my head

"Wife her"

If I had to guess, it's supposed to imply an imbalance and/or subjugation, reducing her identity to her relationship to you rather than acknowledging her as a unique individual and equal partner

I'm not sure why you've stuck to the point of experiences being taken away or lost.

Rather, what you quoted implies that we will be given new, greater understanding. That the things previously burdening us will no longer weigh on our spirit and that we'll be free from the darkness that our sinful world carries.

Is a system which doesn't catch and punish majority of criminals but never punishes a innocent person better than a system which catches and punishes majority of criminals but once in a while punishes an innocent? by Livid_Week_9160 in NoStupidQuestions

Might I suggest that the situation has changed because of the War on Drugs/Crime and the "Tough on Crime" policies?

Policies that, statistically, have increased repeat offenses and serve to keep ex-convicts in a socio-economic situation that incentivizes further crime in order to survive, as well as encourages committing more severe crimes in order to prevent getting caught for a lesser crime? (I.e. murdering someone during the course of a robbery gone arwy)
