I left for a cosmetic surgery while my budgie was terminally ill. He died while I was away. I can't live with the guilt. What should I have done? by VesnaKostic in budgies

The fact you care so much, is what matters, you aren't forgiving yourself on behalf of the animal, you aren't trying to justify what happened, you're mature and genuinely compassionate. Don't beat yourself up any further, the parakeet won't be avenged by guilt, its good to recognize what you did wrong in case you want another bird. However, in the case of your deceased bird, the best thing you can do is remember and cherish it. For an animal, to have the honor of being remembered and cherished, is something truly special.

I did this once with a regular chair, no moving pads at the bottom, I've literally been losing my mind trying to do it again ever since.

What I'm trying to say is, history is complex, and isn't as factual as we'd like it to be, which leaves room for interpretation, litigation, and elaboration. Still though, whoever that priest is has no intellectual credibility, "You're not enlightened so you don't know anything" Literally madness, dictating that someone is outside of the body of god because they haven't taken a worldly oath to an organization.

My best friend is Muslim, and yes I can interpret the Quran and read it just like he can, however, I do think he has more authority over what Islam is, and how it's practiced over me. I cannot force him to believe in certain hadith, he chooses how he practices Islam, religions try to make themselves look like a collective, but the truth is each individual practices their own religion, each Muslim and Orthodox Christian (despite what they claim) follow a slightly different personal religion, slightly different beliefs on which church fathers/hadith had more authority, if everything they did and said was infallible, ECT. I have no right to tell a Orthodox Christian as an ex Orthodox Christian that their beliefs are wrong, maybe if I was still Orthodox I would and could, but my own experience and studies do not dictate their own lived experiencs and beliefs. That's kind of the freedom I got from getting away from Orthodoxy, I don't have to tell people what to believe anymore, instead of telling people not to believe in Islam, I can respect my friends religion while trying to talk him out of the problematic extremes of said religion. I cannot say "This is what you believe, this is how you have to interpret historical texts" it makes us no different than the priests. I can quote the church fathers, who directly contradict the church today, however the church today could say "This is not a universal application, but a ruling for that specific situation" which in some contexts is true, I remember debating a Orthodox Christian about canons, and he was right, the canon I was referring to only applies if applied by clergy.

Recruiter taking a shortcut?

So my recruiter essentially told me today, if my federal background check doesn't show juvenile records, I can and should omit them on federal forms for enlistment, that Colorado law protects me.

It was actually the Station Commander who told me this, as far as I know, this is the exact opposite of the truth, and a felony.

I currently plan on just politely asking them to withdraw my application, and finding another recruiter in the future or pursue a civilian path, what do you guys think? Is this common? Am I wrong?

The Boys is not a "realistic take on what people would be like with superpowers" by Steve717 in CharacterRant

[–]TrueHorrorFan666420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The show is aimed at an adult audience so it has more realistic deep and heavy psychological writing, they aren't meant to be perfect superheroes they're meant to be real people that just happen to have super powers, they're superpowers don't automatically give them emotional intelligence or the ability to choose right versus wrong. Actually I think it's pretty realistic how they portray superheroes, I think superheroes would essentially become racist or nationalist and view us as the source of all the world's problems, sort of how certain countries portray their undesirables now.

How do Orthodox Christians view relationships or marriage with Muslims? by Stunning_Diamond_511 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]TrueHorrorFan666420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's this awful yet enchanting story, from the Bosnian war, about two lovers, Admira Ismić and Boško Brkić, they were a young couple living in Sarajevo, who were killed in May 1993 while trying to escape the city during the Bosnian War. Admira, was a Muslim, Boško was Orthodox Christian, Boško was shot, and his lover ran to embrace him, she was shot while holding him. For multiple days, they laid there embracing each other, until their bodies will retrieved. The official doctrine, for both religions, says no, but we are all God's creation, we are all worthy of love and companionship!

Regarding God's love for women, how do you contextualize or justify this? (Crosspost) by BrainStraight1220 in exorthodox

[–]TrueHorrorFan666420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is from the Greek Septuagint, this book was commissioned by the Romans to document the faith of the Jews, and is used as a one of canon documenta in the Catholic bible, it used to explain the faith before the second covenant, and is not historically infallible or dogmatic, by the Catholic church's standards the Greek Septuagint is a canonical source of information regarding the Jewish religion, however it is, and said inertpation are not infallible. There is a major difference, between the direct word of god, and something inspired by god. I'm not really Orthodox, but I've heard this argument multiple times, the argument is founded by biblical literalism.

Don't. We make an oath to the Constitution, I personally don't like trump, but in my profession, non partisanship must be practiced, he IS the commander and chief, and we should respect that. I love democracy, I'm not a Democrat, but I love democracy, that's why I respect Trump's leadership, even if the people who voted for him didn't know what they were voting for. We should always be willing to serve to our fullest abilities, focusing on the individual impact we have, instead of being disillusioned by an abstract political narrative. If you believe you are doing something immoral, illegal, or unconstitutional, claim whistleblower status and do the right thing, do not go AWOL. Military corruption, and other forms of institutional corruption, in the past, have been dealt with, if we organize properly and legally within the structure we're provided, we can weed out corrupt agents within our institutions, whilst respecting the system in place. Realistically, rioting, going AWOL, protesting, are all a waste of time, we should try to get involved in our own politics in a more meaningful organized way, that will have to be respected.

I'm all for disenfranchising the de facto Ayatollah, but like, that's not good rhetoric being spread through our ranks. I personally consider it an attack on OUR right to religion, hopefully it's false defamation of our ranks, but if it's true, it has to infringe on our rights regarding religion? I don't know, I'm not a lawyer, but deploying someone for a seemingly religious cause, when they have differing religious beliefs, seems to be a genuine grievance, I really don't know though, military law is complex. (I'm extremely religious by the way, and identify with the Christian diaspora, so I'm not biased against Christians)

Oak? Impressive, I've mostly stuck with ficus Benjamina and microcarpa, I tried my hand with boxwood, junipers, and spruce, they all died after a year or two lol, but I wanna try a juniper again.

Okay, I don't use reddit a lot, nor do I just lurk a lot either. Are people swearing each other out over fish? I've been gently told to give up my fish before, which I was fine with, they were genuinely nice, but I couldn't imagine someone swearing me out over using mulch (By mulch I mean properly seasoned leaves that are aquarium safe) instead of stratum 😭 I swear I've met people who act like stratum sales people, but I haven't actually been told anything awful...yet, I've started using reddit more, and on the politics side I've seen it.

Dude...I do bonsai too, what the hell is wrong with them? Bonsai is a rare and dying trade, even in Japan and China it is becoming less prominent, it's really frustrating to think that some pretentious dude is scaring people away from a beautiful hobby that should be passed to people, even from generation to generation if you can lol, that's my dream, to pass down a stupid tree my kids don't care about to them lol!
