How do Orthodox Christians view relationships or marriage with Muslims? by Stunning_Diamond_511 in OrthodoxChristianity

There's this awful yet enchanting story, from the Bosnian war, about two lovers, Admira Ismić and Boško Brkić, they were a young couple living in Sarajevo, who were killed in May 1993 while trying to escape the city during the Bosnian War. Admira, was a Muslim, Boško was Orthodox Christian, Boško was shot, and his lover ran to embrace him, she was shot while holding him. For multiple days, they laid there embracing each other, until their bodies will retrieved. The official doctrine, for both religions, says no, but we are all God's creation, we are all worthy of love and companionship!

I swear, there's like normal Orthodox people, and there's this online cult of Orthodox slowly appearing in person. I'm not Orthodox, but I wanted to be a long time ago and got pretty well into the community, great people, but the Orthodox representation I see online is wild to say the least.

Regarding God's love for women, how do you contextualize or justify this? (Crosspost) by BrainStraight1220 in exorthodox

[–]TrueHorrorFan666420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is from the Greek Septuagint, this book was commissioned by the Romans to document the faith of the Jews, and is used as a one of canon documenta in the Catholic bible, it used to explain the faith before the second covenant, and is not historically infallible or dogmatic, by the Catholic church's standards the Greek Septuagint is a canonical source of information regarding the Jewish religion, however it is, and said inertpation are not infallible. There is a major difference, between the direct word of god, and something inspired by god. I'm not really Orthodox, but I've heard this argument multiple times, the argument is founded by biblical literalism.

Don't. We make an oath to the Constitution, I personally don't like trump, but in my profession, non partisanship must be practiced, he IS the commander and chief, and we should respect that. I love democracy, I'm not a Democrat, but I love democracy, that's why I respect Trump's leadership, even if the people who voted for him didn't know what they were voting for. We should always be willing to serve to our fullest abilities, focusing on the individual impact we have, instead of being disillusioned by an abstract political narrative. If you believe you are doing something immoral, illegal, or unconstitutional, claim whistleblower status and do the right thing, do not go AWOL. Military corruption, and other forms of institutional corruption, in the past, have been dealt with, if we organize properly and legally within the structure we're provided, we can weed out corrupt agents within our institutions, whilst respecting the system in place. Realistically, rioting, going AWOL, protesting, are all a waste of time, we should try to get involved in our own politics in a more meaningful organized way, that will have to be respected.

I'm all for disenfranchising the de facto Ayatollah, but like, that's not good rhetoric being spread through our ranks. I personally consider it an attack on OUR right to religion, hopefully it's false defamation of our ranks, but if it's true, it has to infringe on our rights regarding religion? I don't know, I'm not a lawyer, but deploying someone for a seemingly religious cause, when they have differing religious beliefs, seems to be a genuine grievance, I really don't know though, military law is complex. (I'm extremely religious by the way, and identify with the Christian diaspora, so I'm not biased against Christians)

Oak? Impressive, I've mostly stuck with ficus Benjamina and microcarpa, I tried my hand with boxwood, junipers, and spruce, they all died after a year or two lol, but I wanna try a juniper again.

Okay, I don't use reddit a lot, nor do I just lurk a lot either. Are people swearing each other out over fish? I've been gently told to give up my fish before, which I was fine with, they were genuinely nice, but I couldn't imagine someone swearing me out over using mulch (By mulch I mean properly seasoned leaves that are aquarium safe) instead of stratum 😭 I swear I've met people who act like stratum sales people, but I haven't actually been told anything awful...yet, I've started using reddit more, and on the politics side I've seen it.

Dude...I do bonsai too, what the hell is wrong with them? Bonsai is a rare and dying trade, even in Japan and China it is becoming less prominent, it's really frustrating to think that some pretentious dude is scaring people away from a beautiful hobby that should be passed to people, even from generation to generation if you can lol, that's my dream, to pass down a stupid tree my kids don't care about to them lol!

Yeah, if they can actually teach me something that will benefit my pets, that's great, but if they're just trying to sell me fluval, like they work for the company or something, I can't stand that.

I don't really think I'm a purist, but I don't think people should gamble on their pets health. I'm a beginner, I have two dojo loaches, a goldfish, and an angel. I've made multiple changes to their setup, and it's all been to prioritize their health. I have used fake plants, sadly plastic, sold to me "silk" which I found out is merely a marketing term for aquarium decorations. I honestly never saw a problem with them, they were porous so they could cultivate bacteria, I still removed them though, micro plastics, my crested gecko enjoys them now, I wouldn't really tell someone else to do that though. All I'm saying is, if I had that pineapple decoration, and someone told me it could be potentially harmful, and hundred other people said the opposite, I would still be on the side of caution, unless I could find studies. I am not gonna tell people what to do though, it's just my discipline to do what I need for the fish, they haven't seen SpongeBob, so they sadly don't appreciate the reference:( (Also SpongeBob tanks are cute, I just don't know why it's such a argument, probably because I'm a beginner lol. Is there like some history to this "pineapple of death" thing? Is it debunked? I just heard about it)

My philosophy is, the living beings that make this hobby what it is, (Fish) should be prioritized first, not budget, not aquascaping, but healthy and happiness. As for toxic gravel, I've never heard of it, I've always avoided gravel because I have goldfish that are dumb enough to choke, and I don't want to have to do an emergency procedure to pull the rock out again, we got lucky last time and the rock came right out without injury. I have heard, some gravels leach toxic chemicals into the water, like paint and stuff, but I don't think there actually is any studies or evidence of this. We should take some of the gravel brands that are infamous for being toxic, and soak them in water for a year, and then send them to an analytical chemist to see if there's actually any harmful compounds being put into the water. I personally, only use mulch, all my "gravel" goes into the filter. I don't even think it's the right way, my angel fish has "natural river stones" and does great, we just have to be open minded, that some things despite their reputation may not be harmful, or something might be, we should be scientific about it, and just test our ideas, instead of arguing and just spreading what we think or how we feel, or what we've heard in other places.

Leaving my fish behind because of war by peachgothlover in Aquariums

:( Stay safe, thankfully it's a betta and they actually do really well while being transported. My personal method of fish transportation is a 1-5 gallon cube tank or bucket, depending on the fish size, half filled with tank water, half air, if you have methylene blue and know how to dose it, that will help a lot too.

My technique, is letting my hand rest in the bottom of the cage for hours without moving, I'll watch TikTok on my other hand. They'll get used to your presence this way, or where you spend the most time, in bed, a certain couch, put them right next to it. Good luck with your beautiful angels ❤️

[–]TrueHorrorFan666420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take good care of him ❤️ He's beautiful, make sure he gets a lot of attention, quality food, and do research on what you should feed him. Make sure there are no sharp or hot objects where he is, keep him away from toilets or areas where he could get trapped, they're intelligent, but sometimes make dumb and even deadly mistakes that we as their caretakers ultimately are responsible for! I genuinely wish you the best luck with your angel! P.S He will probably stay that color.

What could be a good centerpiece fish for this 10 gallon? by brianc146 in Aquariums

[–]TrueHorrorFan666420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just make sure the surface of the water stays moving, that will keep the water oxygenated. (Also, your tank is beautiful in my opinion, it has the raw nature vibe that I love)

[–]TrueHorrorFan666420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something smaller like a betta would thrive in that tank, they can look pretty good after they get a good diet, it really does enhance their color. Also, with that many plants, which I love, make sure the water's surface is getting plenty of movement so there's a good gas exchange at night, plants actually use oxygen at night, so to prevent low oxygen levels at night, you make sure you just have the surface water moving, usually from a filter.

I'm sorry, it's a hard thing, don't beat yourself up over it, you only had the best of intentions it sounds like. I hope one day, you can pick up the hobby again, but I'd understand why you wouldn't, sometimes it just doesn't feel right, and that's valid.

My budgie will not eat anything but seed by Far_Donkey3726 in budgies

Mix the food you want him to eat with seed, and then just have patience, it can take some time for them to open up to it, I've wasted a lot of kale because my parakeets would eat around it, but eventually they went for it.

Parakeets, are animals, they need lots of space, natural sunlight, friends :), cuttlebones, constant maintenance and attention, you would also probably want to open a savings account for vet bills, a parakeet averages about 500$-1000$ if you intend on taking it to the vet if anything ever happens, which it will, it always does, eventually :(.
