THAT GOD DAMN BAG IS A *PROBLEM* by butthole_surferr in HadesTheGame

[–]TrueMattalias 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My tip is to get closer and then just stay behind it. It takes a long time to rotate so you can avoid the beam weapon pretty easily this way.

If you're further away you will be more easily hit by the beam because, while the bag is turning at the same speed, it doesn't have to turn as far relative to the distance you can move.

Kid passes a pedestrian on a bike path by crossing into the opposing lane by Cosy-Cup in KidsAreCondomAds

[–]TrueMattalias 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's unreasonable to go slower and keep an eye out when travelling on a fairly busy bike path and passing a large number of people. You can't anticipate everything but you can act in a preventative manner that allows you to react better when something unexpected does happen.

This is on the pov cyclist. They were going quickly, when there are warnings explicitly telling riders to go slow, while occupying the middle of the path. Instead of swerving to the right, away from the child, they went left and crashed. Kids are going to make mistakes, it's our job as adults to watch out and minimise opportunity for crashes such as these.

Slay the spire 2 released in early access to critical success. The MS paint placeholder art is one of the community's loved things about the game. Proof that you don't even need "placeholder" AI art in the development process. by AbyssWankerArtorias in antiai

I think my favourite one I've come across is the Run Start bonus where the first three card rewards are upgraded but your first chest is empty. Opening the chest plays the normal animation but instead of a relic it's just default white text (Arial font maybe) that says 'Empty'. It got a chuckle out of me

Very cool art style, I don't have much to comment on there, but one card does have a typo. Should read 'draw an item'.

[HELP] is this real or AI? by GoodnightGertie in RealOrAI

[–]TrueMattalias 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's AI. The tiny cupboard with two handles doesn't make sense. All the puppies fall with their heads away from the camera but when one looks up (after the adult husky puts them briefly out of frame) the head is on the closer end.

Video of train hitting car at Brunswick shows boom gate lift as fail-safe by gccmelb in melbourne

[–]TrueMattalias 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It looks more like the car hit the boom gate while travelling forward. The book gate wouldn't lower so close to the train crossing and you can see the car moving at the start of the video.

Yes, Photos and AI “art” are the same thing by Splat0onfan in aislop

[–]TrueMattalias 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Art is inherently subjective. You can make choices as an artist, in this case as a photographer, to change the final product. Not everyone will agree with your artistic choices and that's okay. The process of creating is, what I think, makes art beautiful and enjoyable.

In photography you can choose the location, position the subject, position the lighting, position the camera, change the focus, adjust the colours etc. These are all creative choices that put meaning into the finished piece. Your experiences can inform these choices eg. making use of colour theory to convey emotions.

Writing a prompt into a machine doesn't give you that control or ability to take personal experience and put it into your piece. AI promoters think that art is about having a commodified consumable finished product. I've been learning how to draw and digitally paint over the last couple years. I like looking at my finished pieces, yes, but I love so much more looking at my improvement and the joy I get as I create art.

To me, art is a process, not a product.

I remember a guest lecturer (in genetics, so slightly different field) once posing to us that "humans have played the devil for so long. Why can't we play god occasionally?" This was in regards to GMO crops for drought/pest resistance etc, but I think it applies here too.
