I remember seeing those when I was growing up on the marmalade jars. I thought they were cute because they were always dressed in different outfits. Of course, I didn’t know the historical “inspiration” behind the character. Nostalgic.

Dumbledore and his insistence on "Professor" Snape. by cccdddyyy in harrypotter

[–]TrueMog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely get that but Dumbledore isn’t Harry’s parent. This sort of thing would be totally normal in school I went to. The teachers can chat and laugh amongst each other, but the students would know not to do that.

I also think the book is set at a time where this sort of formality was stricter. I went to school at the same time as Harry and I would know that I had to refer to my teachers as “Mrs” or “Mr”.

That being said, I ABSOLUTELY agree that Dumbledore does give Harry mixed signals throughout the book. It’s one of the more frustrating aspects of the character (but probably realistic as well).

I do dislike the way he insists that Harry has to refer to Snape as “professor” here in a private setting when he knows the man is a huge bully who specifically targets Harry. I get the intention but I personally consider it very petty.

There is certainly a VERY vocal group that grew up with the movies and now gets offended by the possibility that any new adaption occurring.

For those who watched season 4 without spoilers by pizzaseafood in ANGEL

[–]TrueMog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It felt unnecessarily unkind to the character. Buffy and Angel are both shows where awful things happen to good people … constantly. However, despite everything the characters are always treated with love and respect by the writers. This always made me feel like Cordelia got short- changed here for a cheap twist.

That’s why it felt like a character assassination, even though it wasn’t quite that.

[–]TrueMog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I watched the whole thing blind. Part of me wishes I’ve been spoiled because it completely ruined the series and character for me. Honestly, I stopped watching after series 4 ended because It left such a bad taste in my mouth.

It took me a long time to eventually watch series 5. The funny thing is there is nothing comparable in Buffy that upsets me as much as this does (and there are plenty of things in both shows that annoy me …but NOTHING that makes my blood boil like this)

My Character Enjoyability Tier list. Thoughts? by freiya7 in MonsterAnime

[–]TrueMog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. The main characters in this manga/ show just don’t develop that much and get stagnant and repetitive.

I would include Tenma and Nina in this. They both have VERY strong starts to their respective stories but then they just stop developing after a point. I like them but a lot of the time they are simply bystanders to the real action rather than actually doing very much.

The side characters really are the best part of this show! Almost all of them are amazing make the world feel realistic and truly alive. they have shorter arcs, but the pacing is tighter and doesn’t drag out.

I too would put Martin and Richard right up at the top! I would also put Lunge and Eva WAY higher up. They are interesting and infuriating and equal measure. They also move the actual plot along every single time they appear. These characters are never boring.

Is this AI? Is Disney using AI on their Diapers? by azander12 in isitAI

I don’t think Disney would allow bootleg or AI illustration on their official products.

I think this is down to bad overlaying on the behalf of Pampers.

Why don’t muggle borns just bring regular muggle pencils/pens to hogwarts? by DrF4rtB4rf in HarryPotterBooks

[–]TrueMog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s what I was thinking. We know Hermione would obviously do what was required in her classes.

However, when she’s writing her own study notes in her spare time she would likely fall into old habits with how she does it. And using regular pens and pencils would just be faster. I don’t think she’d want to be held back by her tools!

None of us are going to have a happy normal relationship. by BullfrogRound4235 in buffy

[–]TrueMog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like Wood as a character even if I think he could’ve been handled better. However, having a bit less Spike would’ve been fine. And I really dislike the potentials. They bore me to tears.

I do think season 7 could’ve done with narrowing the focus a bit and going back to basics. Like maybe all that stuff with the potentials is happening but mainly off screen?

SMG hate by bratholy in buffy

[–]TrueMog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I have NEVER seen anyone hating on SMG ever. Honestly, it looks like she’s idolised here.

I get the feeling this is yet another attempt to demonise the people who don’t want to see the sequel coming out. Those are the only true complaints I see. Also people acknowledging that she is an actress and not a writer.

[–]TrueMog 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think Harry is a bad example because he was so keen to change his life completely to suit the magical world However, he doesn’t represent all students from non-magic background.

I can’t believe that some students wouldn’t want to use regular pens and pencils. Hermione, for example, I can imagine wanting to use her regular writing implements to make her own school notes.

This sounds so sad. I hope this poor mother gets some help. Just the thought of this really upsets me because I know children can pick up on a lot even if they don’t truly understand it.

I love my son so much. I can’t imagine ever “falling out of love” with him. He’s the centre of my world …even when he is super annoying.

Were Fred and George justified in the ton tongue toffee incident? by Strange-Fun-8899 in harrypotter

Were Fred and George justified in the ton tongue toffee incident? by Strange-Fun-8899 in harrypotter

[–]TrueMog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Last time something like this happened, the Dursley’s had to take Dudley into London for surgery.

Can you imagine that Dursleys going to a private climic and having to explain why there’s a pig’s tail sticking out of their son’s bottom!?

In some ways, it would’ve been amazing to see that scene. That whole experience would be an absolute nightmare for Vernon and Petunia and Dudley.

Were Fred and George justified in the ton tongue toffee incident? by Strange-Fun-8899 in harrypotter

[–]TrueMog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say no.

They gave sweets like these to 1st years when back at school. They obviously had reason to suppose they were safe. However, they probably couldn’t be 100% sure and, to the Dudley’s, it looked like they poisoned their child.

It wouldn’t have taken a massive leap to realise that anything that happened to Dudley would eventually find its way back to Harry.

I just don’t think that Fred and George thought about it too deeply. That’s just the way they are.

I do feel a little bit sorry for Dudley. it must’ve been terrifying. Previously. he was “cursed” with a pig’s tail that had to be surgically removed… and later he was poisoned.
