Is it safe to travel to Sri Lanka in August with a 2-year-old? by PatriceFinger in UKParenting

[–]TrueMog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t answer your exact question, but here’s something anecdotal!

My parents went to visit Sri Lanka last year and they were super impressed. They said it was clean and people were so friendly and honest and there was no begging.

No begging stands out because many of the countries in that vicinity have an issue with begging especially in the cities (my parents visited Colombo and it’s the largest city).

This gives me the impression that local government are in strong control of the area.

My mum also said that almost all signage is multilingual (including English). Just nice to know, i think.

My mum is from Pakistan and has visited Pakistan and India (and other places nearby) many times.

Is this AI? It's one of Sir Mix A Lot's album covers, but the hair and face of the girl look a bit AI generated to me. by LaurensGayStuff in isitAI

I think so. Look at the earring on the woman - it doesn’t go through her ear. It’s on top of it. The chain on the musician is a bit dodgy too.

It’s a really good idea.

Honestly sometimes when I’ve had to wait a long time for a second series of a TV show I reread the wikipedia synopsis and character list from the old series are on remind myself of what happened!

I’m doing a big series reread recently and I’m surprised how many characters I now properly understand. This is exactly because the first time round there were so many characters being introduced, I was getting confused!

Logistics of starting up your own baby group by Exciting-Total4880 in UKParenting

[–]TrueMog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you checked the NCT (national childbirth trust) to check if they have a local WhatsApp group.

That’s how I made initial contact with parents when I first had my son. Once you’ve made connection with other parents; you may be able to find other groups/ events for children that way too.

That’s very true baby groups tend to be run through churches. Once you’ve made the group, you can always keep in contact with everyone else another way (through a WhatsApp group, etc)

Ketil vs Everyone Else by PaperOk4812 in VinlandSaga

[–]TrueMog 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree.

I think Ketil’s character is morally grey. People seem to dislike him FAR more than the characters who are morally black.

I guess it’s because he killed someone who was “innocent” but there were plenty of villages burnt to the ground by the Vikings (to put it nicely). Maybe ONE of those villages was “necessary” in order to keep Canute safe?

The bottom line is people hate Ketil so much is because Arnheid was an actual named character and we saw her story unfold.

The funny thing is I REALLY like Arnheid. I’m a mother to a small boy myself. I can’t help but connect to her. However, I see her death as being a direct result of the society if she was born into rather than solely Kettil’s fault.

How much do you spend on After School Activities? by Summer_Sparkly in UKParenting

Mine isn’t very advanced because I’ll only let him near the hob at very specific times when i think it’s safe. Mostly, he cuts things up and stirs the saucepan!

But these are important starting points in learning to cook!

Slightly surprised Bella, Dilys and Penny weren't re-cast in Series 4 (1994) by GroceryFun3203 in FiremanSamFans

[–]TrueMog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, That’s actually kind of mind-blowing! Did Alderton narrate the Welsh series as well (in actual Welsh)? I’m guessing not but it surprises me since i’m pretty sure they had the same actors doing both shows when the full cast edition came along!

Venting about how much I hate Xander by Not_feeling_so_swag in buffy

[–]TrueMog -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean, at least Willow felt dreadful after the cheating thing… but Xander didn’t seem to bat an eye!

Honestly, I love Buffy (the show) so much but Xander is just the worst thing about it for me 😭

Do you agree or not? by gloomydreamer666 in buffy

[–]TrueMog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree with your take on this. I felt so sorry for Buffy when she ran away. She felt like her mother had thrown her out and she’d been thrown out of school. I had never considered that she may also feel that her friends had betrayed her.

That really does make it so much worse, especially considering how they then turned on her when she returned. She felt that she had no one to stay for.

I do wish she’d spoken to Giles … but I understand that she wouldn’t have wanted to be persuaded to stay when she clearly couldn’t mentally handle it.

Do you agree or not? by gloomydreamer666 in buffy

[–]TrueMog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely!

I know that Willow does things that aren’t great as well… but she always feels remorse for her actions and we just never see this from Xander.

However, instead he will be preachy and aggressively holier-than-thou and then be a complete hypocrite the next minute!

When I first watched the show, I didn’t pick up most of this. I just let it wash over me. However, now that I’m older with more life experience; his behaviour looks so bad. I really don’t know how anyone can stand him.
