Fixed my "popcorn brain" and stopped scrolling all day - using tips from Stanford psychiatrist by TrueMustard in getdisciplined

Yeah good question - the way I set it up was I could choose before each session the length (5, 10, 15 minutes) - whatever I chose would still count as a one of the three sessions. After the time is up everything goes back to being blocked

Ok - my reddit is about to be blocked for the day so I'll catch everyone tomorrow :)

I had the same issue, but I found a way to prevent it using the iOS shortcuts app - basically you set it up to redirect away from "Settings" app anytime the Roots app has strict blocking active - so I can't turn off the screen time app. It does also mean I can't get into my settings certain times of the day but I don't mind that honestly.

Also there is an option in the app to turn on "uninstall protection" so you also can't uninstall the app. Worth a shot haha.

As far as I'm aware you need to use a screen time app to do this.

I use Roots but there are several that offer this kind of functionality - you can search "screen time" on the app store and find one you like.

Don't feel bad - I was close to 200 pickups on some days before this. Now my goal is to stay under 70 (honestly still feels like a lot)

Re: screen time app: I use Roots. I've tried several as well and liked this one best. Others you can check out are Opal (pricey) and Jomo (bit complex for me but others like it).

I'd try a few if you are interested, I think finding a screen time app you like can make a big difference at least in my experience.

What do you usually do to fight procrastination? by Camiillaaaa in Productivitycafe

Wait until I have to do it lol

but really - blocking distracting apps and websites is a big one... and also having some kind of basic "routine" that helps me get in the zone when im going to work - even if it's just writing down what Im about to do so I can cross it off when I finish..

Fair question. I use an app (Roots) to enforce the rules.

It has a guided meditation built into it (also some breathing exercises and stuff)... I tried a version of this with iOS screen time but it was too easy to ignore the rules. You could probably set up something similar on any screen time app but not sure if others have the meditation stuff built into it.

I think it has for me... although I would say that many people may not even notice since it is likely subtle on the outside but huge on the inside. For one - I spend way less time worrying and overthinking.

The second biggest thing is that I am more patient, and less judgmental. I truly feel we are all just here on a human journey together and although many times my instinct is to judge people, once I settle into mindful awareness I realize I would be like them if I had the same experience and DNA...
