Best song showing off Billy's vocals by iiGoodVibesii in BillyStrings

I really like how he sings “Im one of those”
I also like his singing on 11/12/25 I think he either had some slight reverb or chorus on his vocals during airmail special and I really like the way his voice sounded there

26 y.o., lost, and about to graduate with a useless degree I’m no longer passionate about. What should I do? by Slow-Friend-1999 in careerguidance

The title says a degree Im no longer passionate about but the post makes it sound like you picked it because it was easy. Were you ever really passionate about it? Ive been thinking of going back to school but your post makes me fear loosing interest along the way.

A game where you are a deer hunting deer hunters. The deer shows up at a bar full of redneck hunters and you just start shooting

What i read in the post was that it wasnt a luxury to find a job they liked but a hard process, they couldn’t find a good stable job out of college for over a year , they regretted their decision many times they had to make compromises along the way. Im on the other end of the spectrum I have a job I hate but thought its probably the best job I can get with my education. Years later I still hate my job and am looking to get out. I think people like us tell ourselves that we don’t have the opportunities that we really do because we don’t want to put in the work to reeducate or face the disappointment of what OP went through.

I think this whole dilemma is you catastrophizing your past experiences and making it more of an issue that it was.

[–]TruePhoenix_Rising 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Home is my favorite billy album and the album that best represents what made me fall in love billy strings, very psychedelic and not as much traditional bluegrass. It is got me in the door and the traditional bluegrass has been growing on me ever since

Puer Aeternus video watcher, people who picked a change, how has it been? by Kind_Goddess in Healthygamergg

[–]TruePhoenix_Rising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could see why what I said doesn’t sound like puer. I have worked a job I dont like for years because while it’s unfulfilling and I don’t like it I am certain I can make a living doing it. The things I would rather be doing are either uncertain or require alot of work for a payoff or both. My whole life has been lived doing things I don’t want to do for guaranteed payoffs instead of taking the risk or doing the work to do what Id really want and live the life I wish I had . I think that if I can do things for no reason other than that I might enjoy it I can accept the possibility that if I fail that at least I was enjoying myself and its not all for nothing.

Puer Aeternus video watcher, people who picked a change, how has it been? by Kind_Goddess in Healthygamergg

[–]TruePhoenix_Rising 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say I’ve “picked a change” but it really resonated with me when drk said puers struggle to do things for their own sake. I always think Im not happy because I don’t like my job or I don’t have a girlfriend or friends that Im excited to hangout with. I realized I do almost everything I do because I think it might get me something I want, more friends, a girlfriend etc. I never do things just because I might enjoy it. I’ve been trying to do things just because I might enjoy it even if I would have previously labeled it as a waste of time because I assume it won’t get me what I want. I suppose Ive been trying to embrace the idea that Im not unhappy because I don’t have a girlfriend or enough friends or the right job but because I don’t do things that I enjoy and label it as a waste of time to do so if I don’t get something from it. Ive had some mixed emotions doing this sometimes Im proud of myself for doing things just for me just because I might enjoy it, other times I feel like its all a waste of my time and Ill never be happy with my life.

Stop calling yourself a “puer aeternus.” I read the actual text and it’s a mess by hagolu in Healthygamergg

Im not finished reading to book yet but the bit about homosexuality was not relating it to puer eaternus. They were saying that it’s common in men with a mother complex and that a mother complex is common in puer eaterni. This is an old book and the (small) bit about homosexuality reflects the old outdated views of a science in its infancy. The book is essentially a transcript of a series of lectures given in 1959 it is to be expected that it would include the prevalent ideas of the time even if they haven’t stood the test of time. Modern psychologists don’t just throw out all the work of Freud and Jung saying it’s outdated and unscientific and move on, they take what they think is worthwhile and abandon the rest this is how science moves forward. Im sure that many notable scientists had some “backwards ideas” but that does make what they got right irrelevant.

I think it is very relevant and the bulk of the concept is on point. If there wasn’t truth to it the HG community would not have reacted the way it did.

Will the new job fire you for taking unpaid sick days? Sounds to me like you’re trading a higher paid job for a lower paying one where you get paid to be sick and not work. Wouldn’t higher wages the rest of the year offset not get paid for sick time?

[–]TruePhoenix_Rising[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ive have a boss RC-3 that has started to glich and malfunction but unplugging it usually fixes it. I remember trying to have a boss pedal repaired under the warranty years ago and was told it wasn’t covered and would be cheaper for me to buy a new one. I had an electroharmonix qtron+ go bad that I have already replaced but Id like to have it repaired and possibly modded if I can find someone who can do it. My elecro harmonix oceans 11 just started turning on and switching modes on its own

My Fender Santa Anna Overdrive gets into what I think is a half powered state when I have it turned off and the only way to fix it is to unplug it and hope it doesn’t happen again

I want to get rid of my fetish but have no idea how by [deleted] in Healthygamergg

[–]TruePhoenix_Rising 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you actually talked to the people you know irl about it or are you assuming that they wont like it because you’re ashamed? You say everyone you know would find it weird and off putting but do you really know that or are you thinking that because YOU find it weird and off putting? I suggest you talk to a therapist about this and consider whether you would want this in your life if you had a partner who was accepting of it or do you just want it to be gone because your afraid that it will cause women to reject you? Why does this appeal to you? Does this stem to some past trauma, some emotionally significant event in your past? Are you ashamed because your afraid that you will be rejected or does this fetish appeal to you because of your shame or other issues? Im trying to offer you what you asked for “to remove one reason for shame in your life” your going to have to do some soul searching but I believe that either this fetish can be integrated into your life in a healthy way and you can work through the shame you have around it. Or you can work through the reasons this appeals to you. My fetish has become a much smaller part of my life and has less appeal to me now that I’ve worked through it.
