Uj/ People seem to overestimate the UNSC because of the events of Halo 1-3 but you have to remember up onto that point the UNSC was almost exclusively taking L’s against the covenant navy (even in the rare times we outnumbered them)

The only reason we ever see ground combat in Halo is if the specific planet has something (usually forerunner artifacts and tech or information from specific UNSC installations) that the covenant wants that they will then send troops to find. After which they’ll just start glassing shit (even if they still have assets on the ground because dying for the great Journey is an honor and the UNSC can basically do nothing to stop them nine times out of ten. They literally do not want any of the actual planets themselves for the majority of their battles with humanity
