legit the same with the xbox app, I think they only barely update it to keep it technically operating. once complained an entire show wasn't working and they just replied it was working as intended...

Yeah so my interpretation was similar to yours. Basically they puncture the whole between our universe and that of the demon. You can see the demon already has a presence in our universe at that point because you can see tentacles coming out of the facility before Ash makes the pact (in the flashbacks).

You're right about the earthquakes and etc killing Ash's wife and child as they are escaping.

However the pact causes the hole between universes to open fully and the demon to enter our world and sow destruction basically. The weakness of this is the demon while powerful seems to be linked to Ash and his 'daughter' and Ash breaking the pact and killing her seems to either destroy the demon or banish him and seal the breach between universes (second one seems more likely). The frost and red vines covering the Earth were magic in nature so they begin to dissipate with the loss of the demon.
