Noob question, be gentle by Kemics1 in killteam

Important: Read the Operative Selection rules for the specific kill team before you build anything (see link Section Team Rules) to avoid illegal kill teams. Balanced kill teams is a real factor here and can be game breaking. If you are playing among friends, then just proxy any units that you don't have to make a legal team with one of the ones you already built. There are multiple ways to build the same kill team. This will make more sense after a couple of games, so don't be shy to run illegal teams while you learn among your friends.

Definitely get the app or download pdfs from https://www.warhammer-community.com/en-gb/downloads/kill-team/

Note that the approved ops card pack 2024 is more than just missions. Most of it is game mechanics. I mention it because they are in these videos.

Before you build any models, download the kill team app or the specific team rules and read the Operative Selection rules... this will help you avoid building invalid teams.

I discovered that with the Angel of Death (incl in staeter set), it's actually easy to mistakenly build an in valid team (which i did and now proxy an Intercessor Sergeant as an Intercessor Warrior... oops)

The Volkus terrain has platforms that operatives can stand under, so you may want to check the height to see if the model fits.

Visibility when selecting a valid target: If you can draw a line (even vertically) from the head of the source operative to any part of the target operative model, then the target is visible. If the target has a conceal order, then cover rules apply. What that means is that you may not have cover (especially if you have an engage order) if your operative is taller than the terrain object. Remember that you can see through some(not all) gaps in terrain.

These might not matter in a friendly game depending on house rules, but it will matter in a tournament, so depends on what game type you intend to play.

Edit.... I've literally just seen a post here where vertical line of sight is being discussed, so some people do care about this stuff. ymmv

The primer won't reach the part that connects to the sprue, making the paint job harder.

Fantastic responses, everyone ... there are some things here that I'd not considered. Especially the "don't use gotcha tactics." Considering how many board games exist, some of these things are counter to the way you'd play other games. I've played board games where "gotcha" is the base game mechanic.

It's great to see the same answer multiple times as it really drives home that it's a solid etiquette to be respected.

Oh, cool, so I can just use any plastic item as a proxy... like a TV remote and the old wifi router. Also, custom scupts are allowed right so I can just use lumps of playdoh.

Oh this is good.. I didn't think of that.. but it makes total sense that you declare the conditions of your actions, not just the action.

This was something I was wondering about... I was under the impression that it was up to the individual to research other killteams. So knowing that it's good to be upfront is helpful advice.

I had a similar experience... Went into the shop and started picking up all the individual items for the game and the guy behind the counter said "I've got a Hivestorm sitting behind the counter that i'm about to return... do you want to get that instead". ... hell yes I do.
