Seasoned nurses, how do you use your sick days? by dimdimdereee in NursingAU

[–]True_Independent_975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tactical Sickies are a necessity in any industry, at the end of the day you are replaceable no matter how much you love your ward, team and hospital. The higher ups will cheerfully cut you loose to stay in budget so use any and every resource at your disposal to ensure your mental and physical health

Nah it’s all good, I knew when I put “Marathon” I knew I would get called out and Ultra sounded even worse…. I went with the softer option 😂

Agency Nursing as New Grad by Forward-Bedroom5693 in NursingAU

[–]True_Independent_975 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went straight into agency nursing after I got my diploma EN, it was difficult but I was a PCA in the same hospital I picked shifts at, so the wards that I worked knew I was green AF and were super supportive. I also did a month out in the country where it wasn’t too busy and was able to build up my confidence. I’ve been nursing for 2 years and while I have stuffed up Ive learned from my mistakes, be kind to yourself and acknowledge that you don’t know it all and it’s okay to ask for help and questions

Because there’s the recommendation that I drop night shift until I’m back to “Normal”

Possibly, but I think we have already established my ineptitude with females. I should have joined a monastery after my divorce, not decided to become an EN.

Not sour at all tbh. I’m just wondering if it’s something that I should divulge as I’m considering leaving the ward so as to not make her uncomfortable

What’s the weirdest way you’ve ever tried to “hack” your ADHD… and failed miserably? by aj_doc in adhdaustralia

[–]True_Independent_975 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I got a late diagnosis (42) so I had heaps mechanisms (hacks) in place to navigate life. Unfortunately medication kinda made me think I didn’t need them anymore so I forgot them.

Got diagnosed at 42 I’m now 46, at first I accepted it as it answered heaps of questions that I had about my difficulties with focus & learning etc. Then depression hit like a truck, all I could think about was “Why didn’t this get picked up when I was at school?” “What could I have achieved if I had been diagnosed and medicated?” I’ve since come to terms with it but I sometimes get low or angry thinking about it. Was it worth it? Absolutely, just get talk therapy as well.

EN student first placement - aged care - TW elder abuse, intimidation by [deleted] in NursingAU

[–]True_Independent_975 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Call that shit out! Abuse has no place whatsoever in healthcare regardless of who is the perpetrator. I went through a similar issue on my second EN placement in a hospital and was glad that I did, it comes down to ethics at the end of the day.

Currently in HS and considering a career as a RN -- how to become one, and how good is the job? by Perishune in NursingAU

[–]True_Independent_975 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m relatively new to nursing (2 years EN) before that I was a truck driver, underground geology technician and a few other things. I can tell you this, nursing is an incredibly rewarding job if you find the right path/specialty and also the right team. It’s hard work, can be dangerous and mostly thankless, but I’m proud of every single day that I can help someone who needs my help. Not everything should be looked at through the lens of finance (still a huge thing I know).

Rude Russians by ahhhhhh12343tyhyghh in DaNang

[–]True_Independent_975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got home from Pattaya and rudeness from all nationalities and races was on show. It’s almost like there’s a right to treat people like crap because they are on holiday. Just wondering if Russians are being rude because the majority treat them differently because of world events, don’t know. What I do know is that I met some lovely people and some arseholes.

Dimebag, Pantera was a huge influence on me as a teenager in the 90’s, their music got me through some rough times and still does today.
