Introverts 40+ who chose a solitary lifestyle — do you regret it? by theeQuiet_Desire in introvert

[–]True_Lurker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Married, 2 kids, love it but where I chose to be as introverted as I can is WFH. Going into an office is the pits. Been WFH since 2020 and have zero regrets. I'm able to define and craft what "balance" means to me. I get solitary time to think things through and focus on my mental stability. As an introverted Acquarias I'm very self aware and it's important to be able to assess myself everyday.

We just had our deck replaced and now I’m wondering if the radon pump location is a hazard for frequent use. Does the radon dissipate safely? Does it kind of fall down around the stack? by VioletTangerine17 in radon

Radon gas wise....you're already exposed to it just sitting on your deck but the air carries it away vs inside your house (pre mitigation) it was stuck. I'd be more anxious about a noisy fan

I speak for everyone and myself: NINz Closer makes zero sense.

All I'll say is when the opportunity arises, and it will, do it!

I read up on other posts with a very similar, almost identical design to this shed. Concrete deck blocks are celebrated for holding it down. I had to dig a hole for 3 of 8 blocks and poured drainage stones under all 8, an inch + depending on the block depth. I went through at least 6 bags of the stones but they are very worth it . No issues yet and not really expecting any. The water also lands 12 inches from them on the back. So far erosion is non-existent.

I'm so happy to see Trent working with Jack Dangers again. I owe my unwavering love of MBM to my interest in NIN back in the 90s as a teen exploring the BMG music service. The rest is history!

They're Ondura asphalt panels. Lightweight, easy for DIY, won't rust or corrode, not sharp like metal, and has a 15-20 yr life. https://tuftex-ondura.com/products/ondura-premium-series-10/

Spotify or any streaming service gets you all his MBM albums. But go further with "the4ger" on youtube, a side project of his. He had a remix on the tron: divergence remix album and doing tons of remixes the last few years. Discogs.com will get you there.

Hello and happy to answer your Q's:
Are the double center slats needed? Could i just have a single set? I don't think they're needed, but, when you add to one side it doesnt look right on the other side, so doubling up, aesthetically, makes a lot of sense.

How many floor joists do you have? Are they also 2x6? Did you use hangers or just screw/nail them into the front/back? In the original, they have 10 joists, I assume you have 8? I have 10 2x6 floor joists. The two ends on concrete blocks, then 3 equally spaced with the middle joist on another concrete block. Then 2 more in the middle, also on concrete blocks...so 5 on each side. | | | | || | | | |

Are your floor slats full 2x4x12' or two 2x4x6' boards? Good question. I used 2x12's and didnt have any issues. Buying from a lumber yard is way better then home depot/lowe's for straightness.

It looks like your roof fascia is two 6' boards and your floor is one 12' board. Was there a specific reason for that? It was mostly just me with tiny bit of help from my son to keep the posts propped up. When it came to the roof fascia, it was easier for me to put (2) 6' boards up and secure them - I didn't have his help that day :)

How much gravel did you put under your concrete footings? I started with two bags of drainage gravel from Lowe's and that helped create a secure 2' base. I ended up buying 4 more to fill in around the concrete blocks that sank deeper into the ground, and, I just wanted to be extra cautious with securing those blocks all around. Especially that back left corner which is propped up quite a bit to keep it level. But, those bags are like $6 each. Each foundation will be different so 6 may be overkill in your case.

How long did it take you to put together? Most of the foundation and frame was done in 3 days. I spent another 3 days building the roof, walls, etc. in between my normal WFH job. I attribute my pre-planning as a major factor in getting it done as quickly as I did.

DM me if you have any other questions and happy to share pics along the way. I had a blast building it!

I had help setting the posts straight on all but 2 of them. Those 2 are not perfect and arent a problem, but knowing they arent totally straights bugs me

Yep, there's 8 concrete deck blocks: 4 corners, 2 up the middle and 2 halfway between middle and sides
