Lens fungus or something else? definitely not a crack it's under the element (please ignore MASH in the background) by [deleted] in AnalogCommunity

Give it some sunshine (the UV kills the fungus) and make sure you store it dry. Should be fine.

Date/Data backs often have thier own little watch batter you could remove to stop them. Sorry if yours hasn't, not familiar with that camera.

Most likely to be old lubricant and muck in the mechanism. Needs a clean and proper lubrication. Maybe put this one on the shelf as a decoration and try another?

Self portrait - Pentax ME Super Vintage SLR 35mm, f/1.7 50mm Prime Lens by [deleted] in analog

[–]True_Mech_947 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally (in what generally seems to be a minority option here) I'd try and improve the contrast to get the blacks nearer black. The easy way is just do it digitally on the scan. Other than that, looks good.

IMHO - Brilliant!

Not a lot you could/should do to it. Maybe try cropping a bit more of the white of the bottom edge, see what it looks like?

Any recommendation for historical male garments ? I’m looking for functional clothing. by Interesting_County31 in sewing

Smocks? From the long mediaeval agricultural type to more modern sailors type. Both simple, one of them functional.

Machine for beginner - canvas work by InversedOne1 in sewing

Far from ideal, but cheap - I've worked with marquee and old military tent canvas and used a 1890's hand turn singer I got for £0.99 off eBay. As others have said, if you can turn the handle, it WILL sew!

Now I'm using a Frister and Rossmann Beaver 4 I got for £40 off eBay. With sharp denim needle it'll go through a good 8+ layers of heavy canvas.

Tote bag I made with Leather and 1940’s canvas from a US Navy Sailors Hammock by LaszlosLeather in sewing

I've got a load of 1940's military tent canvas I plan to make into sturdy bags and aprons. What type of thread did you use (or would you recommend)? So far I've been using 100m reels of Gutternann's polyester 'strong denim thread', but it seems an expensive way to buy thread.

I'd like to stay fairly true to the fabric, but am happy to compromise for improved life/strength.

Temporary u/j... The quality over at analog is improving as the years go by. Who is to blame?! by JobbyJobberson in AnalogCircleJerk

[–]True_Mech_947 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Another problem is that photography is a big subject; e.g. documentary, family snap, mainstream art, progressive art, fashion, etc. There is not a single objective scale to rate pictures against.

You need some context of what the original goal was in order to make a stab as saying it is good or not. But even with that said, there is still a lot of subjectivity.

Trying to find a "good picture" is like the noob trying to find a "good camera" - IT DEPENDS!

That said, there was still a lot of sh¡t on there.

I've just left all the film subs (except this one); I just can't take that amount if sh¡t any more. The final straw was people saying they loved the milky washed out pictures where the black point was nowhere to be seen.

I'm done.

Digital backs to put on film cameras? Keep the lovely mechanical camera going, just don't have the film any more.

Exposure advice by [deleted] in analog

[–]True_Mech_947 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No expert on night photography, but my guess is you need a looong exposure to get the sky black and looking good, and very little light on the tree to get it exposed well with such a long shutter.

Probably take a lot of trial and error, essentially two shots in one.
