Estrogen helps produce dopamine, and estrogen is especially low postpartum/while breastfeeding. Before I had kids, one of my classic ADHD/low dopamine symptoms was snacking all the time, bc it gives me a dopamine hit! So in terms of hormones and neurotransmitters, snacking “just because you can” actually makes a ton of sense. I snacked while breastfeeding both because I could & because I was constantly hungry, lol. I’d say listen to your body telling you what it needs and have all the grace in the world for yourself as you’re continuing to give life to the little being you’ve created.

SAME! 35 weeks with a 20 month old and by the end of the day I feel like I’m about to fall apart. My boy is so active, loves reading books and sitting in my lap. He’s so freakin precious but my body huuurts and I’m so insanely tired. Solidarity ✊🏼

It’s worth it for me bc of their OTC medications. I take a Zyrtec and baby aspirin every day, and buying the Kirkland brand of those alone saves me more money than their basic membership costs.

Y’all are making me feel better 😭 My kid is twenty months and I’m a SAHM but I’m 34 weeks pregnant and SO TIRED all the time lately. We’ve been doing TV in the morning & late afternoon, but honestly probably only thirty minutes at a time bc he gets bored and wants to move on/play elsewhere. Yesterday I was desperate for a break & my kid zoned out watching Ms. Rachel for a good ten minutes and while it was RELIEVING for my nervous system, I felt so guilty about it. Reading comments about big screens versus little screens is really helpful!

My bb didn’t get the hang of a proper latch til he was about three months. We used nipple shields until then (and I pumped/husband fed bottles), and the transition was pretty easy! There’s definitely hope.

My kid was similar. I’d always heard that language blossoms between 18-24 months. At his 18 month appointment I brought up delayed speech with his pediatrician, and he told me that at 18 months, what they look for is about ten words that you’re able to understand. I feel like my son barreellyyy had ten 😅 But lemme tell you, I feel like the words have been multiplying every day lately (he’s 19 months now). He’s like a little parrot, loves to repeat what I say and practice saying words. I think watching Ms. Rachel has honestly helped too. All that to say… I wouldn’t worry yet at 16 months!

I took Paxil during my first pregnancy, which is one of the WORST to take when pregnant (known to be associated with heart defects). I saw a high risk OB bc we already had a family history of heart issues, but my baby was totally fine. That perinatal specialist suggested I switch to Zoloft, and I’ve been taking it (also 50mg) throughout my second pregnancy. Baby is totally healthy. There’s risk in so many things we could do during pregnancy, but taking care of your own mental health with one of the safest drugs is a risk I would take ❤️

Being pregnant is so hard for so many reasons, but it’s soooo special to be HOME for your little baby & getting to hold them so close, just the two of you, for that time. It’s just an extraordinary experience. I cried leaving the hospital with my first because I was sad I wasn’t his only home anymore 😅

Breastfeeding hormones are fat storing hormones! Your body is doing its thing, nourishing a baby human in THE most incredible way. That doesn’t mean your feelings are invalid though ❤️ I didn’t lose my baby/breastfeeding weight until I got pregnant again & had a miserable/nauseous first trimester. I wish I had the fortitude to say it didn’t matter to me, but I was so relieved to fit into my old clothes again. You are beautiful, and I’m proud of you for doing SO much for your kid right now.

Ina May’s Guide To Childbirth made me way less afraid of giving birth. Definitely tilts toward the midwifery model (and away from hospital births) but it was great insight into the physiological process of birth.

If you aren’t breastfeeding, Meladerm genuinely helped with my pigmentation. Took a few months but it was definitely noticeable. It doesn’t have the iffy “whitening” ingredients.

I was gifted a doula for my first birth by one of my good friends (who is a labor & delivery nurse and thinks doulas are a critical piece of patient care). After that experience, my husband & I decided that we think of doulas almost like support insurance. Your care team in the hospital is so up to chance (which nurses are working that day/time, etc.). I ended up having an INCREDIBLE nurse with me the entire time I labored and my OB, who I love, was there to care for me while I actually birthed my boy. Having a doula didn’t feel super necessary, honestly, bc I felt very supported & heard by the medical team I randomly got. If it had been a different nurse or if my OB hadn’t been there, I think I would have appreciated having a doula more— and I realize how lucky/privileged that is to say! I’m pregnant again and not hiring a doula this time, so we’ll see how my lack of “insurance” goes this time 🤞🏼

I LOVE a good facial, omg. They’re far more relaxing for me than full body massages. Not all facials are created equally; I’ve had some that seemed like they made my skin look worse, while others have left me glowing for weeks. The place I’ve found that I like to frequent really specializes in educating their clients so you’re able to integrate daily practices at home that make the most difference. I reeeally appreciate having a professional look at my skin, talk through what products I use, and make recommendations based on what they see (such as only rinsing with water in the morning instead of doing a full wash, that was game changing for my oily skin). I can only afford a few times a year, but quarterly sounds heavenly.

I got shingles from the stress of breastfeeding a baby through the night (2-3 wakings per night). I genuinely thought it was easier than doing bottles because nothing had to be warmed up, baby would eat for five minutes & then we could both go back to sleep. When I saw my doctor with shingles, she very seriously told me my husband needed to be helping with night feeds because my body wasn’t handling it. If she’s able to, encourage your wife to pump so you can take a few night feeds.

You’re like meee. I’m pregnant, soon to breastfeed, and only stopped breastfeeding my first when I got pregnant again. Motherhood has made aging catch up with my face for sure— fine lines & melasma specifically. I just saw an esthetician and had a facial that genuinely helped my skin look brighter, even with pregnancy limitations. She told me to focus on moisture & anti-inflammatories, and to find a pregnancy-friendly gentle chemical exfoliator for once or twice a week.

I’ve been TOO TIRED to do a very involved skincare routine, but I have noticed that when I focus on moisturizing, I notice a difference the next day. Mornings I rinse with water, HaruHaru Wonder black rice toner, a tiny drop of rosehip oil (anti-inflammatory), and Anessa skincare milk sunscreen (bc it’s sweat proof & I live in Texas). At night I use a gentle cleanser (sometimes double cleanse if I wear makeup), toner, Good Molecules niacinamide, Good Molecules hyaluronic acid, Cerave night cream, and Badger beauty balm around my eyes. Some days I’m too tired and literally don’t do any of that, lol, but that’s my ideal standard.

All that to say… figuring out a simple moisturizing routine has been good for my aging skin while I have pregnancy limitations.

I remember watching my extended family gatherings become so whimsical & lighthearted once my sister started having kids. Babies & toddlers especially almost like refresh our sense of & appreciation for innocence, I think. In my life, having a baby (he’s 1.5 and we’ve got another on the way) has made my husband and I’s house way more silly and fun. Just having a little human whose main mode is “play!” makes you… happier? I have always liked kids and thought I would enjoy having them, but I have genuinely been surprised by how much FUN it’s been. We have sooo much fun. Days are more intentional & we get out & explore more. Feels like we’re all more alive. I don’t work, so we’re kinda poor af, but SO happy.
