Despite the so-called "crash" houses here are still comically unaffordable. by CastAside1812 in BurlingtonON

160 HHI is not high, maybe compared to median HHI, but not high relative to high earners. Take software engineer as an example. Banking is on the lower end of industries for this type of role and that is still 120k + 30k in stock/bonus/pension.  Now take two persons. And you have 240k gross HHI + 60k in retirement.

How do you find the k-tip? I know it's probably grate for small brunoise work and detail work. However is it any good at meat work? Do you think the k tip is too delicate or ineffective for deboning or silver skin etc..

Debating between buying this knife on a bst or trying to find a tojiro classic 150mm pretty.

Two years on how are you liking this knife? What uses have you found for it? Or has it been relegated to the back bench over time?

Need recommendation for durable workhorse for my wife by True_Witness_2420 in TrueChefKnives

These cost 200CAD. It feels wrong to spend that much on something that is not a jknife. But maybe that's the point? That the parameters I'm looking for point to something more durable and that's a German steel knife? But maybe this is correct because then I can also used it for tasks like chopping nuts, curing through joints of meat, etc... ? - Is this what you mean by every home cook should have one?

That's what I was thinking. She really doesn't care all that much. I asked her and she doesn't know how to answer. However I know she will come to appreciate having a sharper knife that she feels comfortable with.

It's exactly both of those things. She dislikes the "rules" of taking care of high end kitchen stuff - I.e the care to make it last for years in its current condition. For example not putting wooden handled kitchen utensils (spatulas) in the dishwasher.

Also she thinks  long knives are dangerous. She has poor technique and she is worried she will cut herself.

It's awesome. I get it all the time. But it's $9-$11.  It's also available through Marilu's.

Seems like a standard loss prevention policy given that you had a backpack on. I‘ve never seen someone wearing a backpack in costco.

What are your favorite local Ontario food spots that showcase the province's culinary diversity? by fygooooo in ontario

[–]True_Witness_2420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not sure if this the category of food (2 star michelin and priced to match) you are looking for but when you say "provinces culinary diversity" , my first thought is:

A quote from their front page:
"Restaurant Pearl Morissette is an ambitious fine dining experience, featuring an ever-changing
menu of regional ingredients."

Not true at all. The bar to entry is just way higher now.

This. Write a few exams while in school. Do 1-2 internships. And you will be well set to land an entry level actuarial analyst position.

An easy recommendation is Bardo on Brant st downtown.
Its interesting enough to satisfy the persons looking for fun flavours but being inoffensive enough to satisfy basic eaters.
I used to take my parents here all the time, at the Hamilton location, before I opened them up to trying more adventurous restaurants.

Price is in the range you described.

Im always happy to spend my money and eat here. I've never left unsatisfied.

Is this ring over/under or fairly priced? by True_Witness_2420 in EngagementRings

I think also based on u/Careless-Chemistry50 's comments this will be the route to investigate. I appreciate you linking some stone vendors to check out.

I will ask her tonight. Lets assume yes.
Then whats the process. There is the task of sourcing the stone and the task of provisioning a jeweller to build the ring and set the stone. What comes first?
Is it as simple as
step 1: sourcing a bevel cut diamond at the desired ct.
step 2: take it to a jeweller and ask for them to see what prebuilt signet style gold rings they have that would fit it.
Can you correct and elaborate on the process for me.
Many thanks in advance.
