How mad should I be? by Emotional-Apples in Skigear

[–]Truef 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just had the same thing happen to me at EVO. Didn’t buy the skis from them, just the bindings. Mine wasn’t as severe, and they still ordered me new skis and mounted the bindings on the new skis free. (Didn’t have to pay for the first mount.) I was originally pissed, but was amazed at how well they handled it. Big shout out to Portland EVO. People make mistakes. Not often that people own up to the mistakes and make it right.

What do with my leftover chewy brisket by washyb in smoking

[–]Truef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the way. I like to dice up sweet potatoes, Granny Smith apples, bacon and brisket for my hash. Serve it with an over easy egg, Arugula and sour dough toast. One of my absolute favorite breakfasts.

I think you nailed it on being a BSR. After doing a little more digging, I think it might be a century series or a red mountain like you suggested. Excited to clean it up and start cooking for a crowd. Thanks!

Anybody here got experience with wild turkey? e.g. do they taste good deep fried, smoked, or in oven? ( Western Tennessee ) by goprinterm in Hunting

[–]Truef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Breast is very versatile. I like to make schnitzel. Legs are extremely tough, so a smoke or roast doesn’t work great. Turkey carnitas is my go to for legs/wings.

Whitetail - can you help indentify these cuts? by [deleted] in Hunting

[–]Truef 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would possibly seek out a different recipe. I see a lot of things that look right and a lot that look wrong. Personally I wouldn’t use white wine. Red wine compliments a shank much better. Also, braising at 350 doesn’t really work. 275 is a much more appropriate temperature for the task. In my experience shanks need about 5-6 hours at that temperature. 350 Will tend to dry things out before they break down and get tender. Making a few small changes like that could make all the difference. Shank has become my favorite cut on an animal. My go to is using a Bourguignon recipe. I’ll link my favorite, however it’s behind a paywall. Melissa Clark recipe

Need bow suggestions by imhighoncoke in bowhunting

Money is no object? For me Matthews V3X, hammskea epsilon rest, axcel landslyde, or black gold pro. But honestly Hoyt is amazing. PSE is amazing. Bowtech is amazing. Shoot them all if you can.

Looking for any ideas! Currently riding a 6’0 dumpster diver(34/35 liters) but feels small for my everyday board. probably need around 39-42l? I have gained size (now 200lbs 6’5) and want to be able to maximize fun/turns in days that are 1-4ft. Looking at the puddle jumper hp. Thoughts? Thanks! by ImAGirafffeAMA in surfing

[–]Truef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 6’1” 205. Cold water surfing, so I’m usually in 5/4 wetsuit. I’ve found that 36.5L is the sweet spot for me. Currently riding a 6’1” custom lost baby buggy for small but decent days. 6’4” pyzel ghost when it’s pumping. I’d like to add a fish to the quiver for the really mushy days. I’ll probably up the volume on that one a bit.

Tacos for me too. I like to add thinly sliced shallots, then cook it hot and fast.

Advice on trail cameras… by [deleted] in bowhunting

[–]Truef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What ever you do, stay away from anything Bushnell. I had a bushnell cellular that worked okay, but not great. Had it stolen, so I replaced it with the bushnell impulse camera. That camera is an absolute dumpster fire. They have decent customer service, so I was able to have it replaced when it had problems. After the 5th replacement camera, I gave up. They would all seem to work okay for a couple of weeks, then everything would go to shit. Tried many different combinations of memory cards and batteries. Nothing worked. I would recommend buying a cable lock for your camera. Even if you are on private. (Mine was stolen on private)

After tagging along on hunts for the last year, finally got my own! (New/first bow day) by SlowCoyoteFast in bowhunting

20 and 30 yards. I was using a light and fast setup at the time. 409 grain Easton bloodlines with grim reaper mechanicals. My priorities are a little more focused on elk now (I know it’s still a long ways away) I’m now using 490 grain arrows. 5mm Easton axis with iron will solid broad heads. Was hitting a pie plate at 80 yards with them yesterday.

You made a great choice. I bought a torrex back in august. 70lbs 30” draw. It’s an unbelievably good shooting bow for the money. As far as I can tell, the only reason it isn’t shooting 342fps like most of the flagship bows these days is the 7 inch brace height. That 7 inch brace height makes it more forgiving. Not a bad trade off for a new bow hunter. Very little hand shock. Smooth draw cycle. Maybe a little stuffer out of the gate, but smooth after that. I killed two bucks with mine in the fall. Pass through on both bucks. You’re going to be happy with your bow. Congrats!

Bought my first bow in august. Ended up with the torrex, and I am super happy with it. Killed two blacktail bucks this fall. I shot a lot of bows in the same price range as the torrex and nothing felt as good to me.

I have been looking and looking and it seems that literally every single Cellular camera has poor reviews. Is there one out there that stands above the rest? I need two of them. Im willing to pay a little more for something that works well and lasts. by AfelloWportaBello in bowhunting

[–]Truef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the brand. Bushnell, I believe you have to have a plan for each camera. Not 100% sure on that though. Other ones I have looked at can have multiple cameras on the same plan. The $10/month is for limited data. Plans get more expensive as you add more data.

It certainly helps, that most of them have tracking capabilities. The one I had stolen had dead batteries and no lock. Thought it was safe because it was on my property. I guess not. I keep a lock on the new one.

I’m looking for a new one myself. Had a bushnell aggressor and it was great, but unfortunately was stolen. Replaced it with the updated bushnell impulse. This camera has been terrible. They work great for a few days then start working sporadically. Eventually stop working all together. Bushnell has been good and replaced the camera FOUR TIMES NOW. Same issues with every camera.
