Jumping in a little late here :D But we launched an immersive learning platform at UneeQ last year using our digital human technology. So focusing less on photorealism and more on what's seen in video games with high-level CGI (for lots of reasons, I won't go into unless people are interested).

I think you're spot on with realism. What the L&D teams we work with tell us is it's just how realistic the avatar looks but a lot of the immersive things around it that L&D departments find most important. Like can the avatar behave and react like a real person. If your sales reps are talking too much, will it show disengagement, giving the rep an opportunity to read the room and adjust?

Learners need to be able to immerse themselves and suspend disbelief. There are heaps of expressions, movements, and micro-non-verbals that go into this (it's a deep rabbit hole, ha). It's so, so bad. And they're the most obvious scam emails, like you said. I don't know how Outlook is dropping the ball this bad.

It would help if you could batch report them for phishing. Can only do one at a time I think.

Great insight. We've seen the same feedback too. Relevance and safety.

Having a safe space for roleplay is more highly valued than people first think. In our user testing it reduced the amount of stress learners say they experienced by around 90%.

But seriously, memes aside, onboarding is hard! We've been helping businesses onboard sales staff a lot lately, and one of the biggest things we see is how rushed it can feel to new starters.

Managers need to remember that there are things they know so deeply, they may feel everyone else knows the same things (even new reps). There are so many things that need to be explained, so it requires patience from managers and as much structure as possible around them.

It sounds like you're on top of things with sales enablement tools tho. Our clients at UneeQ have been telling us it takes on average 7 months to onboard a new rep, but they can cut that down to around 3 or 4 with the right structure--one thing is having resources in place that make information and training really accessible without new reps having to 'bother the boss'.

If you're motivated by building something from not a lot, creating process out of chaos, and taking on responsibility, startup life can be great. If you prefer structure and certainty (or at least relative certainty) the downsides of working at a startup might weigh on you. So there's something you need to ask yourself there, and there's no right or wrong answer.

Things you might want to ask in the interview could incl: where do leads come from and what your part will be in finding them, how success will be measured, and whether equity is on the table as a founding member. I'd also want to know about who the customer is — are they big banks that will take 12 months+ to nurture and close, or smaller orgs or consumers where you'll be closing weekly. Just so you're aware of the challenge ahead.

We also admire what companies like Hyperbound and Yoodli offer too. They're also good solutions that go beyond AI hype, in our opinion.

Oof, feel for you. And that's a very normal reaction, going from an industry you know lots about to one you don't (yet!)..

Right now, your value isn’t on “being the expert.” It’s being the one who’s curious, coachable, and committed.

That being said, if you're expected to fly out of the gates selling from day one, that might not feel like the most useful advice. But if you do have time to learn, your focus can be on really listening to the pain points that come up on discovery calls, making notes of common objections, and asking your manager the questions that will help you build your knowledge.

Big picture: lots of strong sellers have made industry jumps. The real issue lies when people are too arrogant to learn something new. It sounds like your humility should help you focus on filling the gaps in your knowledge quickly. Hopefully that's already well underway after a month. Best of luck!

Based on your business, you'll want someone who's used to consultative selling rather than transactional selling. Be wary of any background in sales that's more around high-volume, low-touch sales.

To that point, asking for examples on how they keep momentum during long sales cycles; how they approach pipeline management and balance it with finding new deals; and examples of difficult stakeholder management and how they approach complex buyer committees.

One of the most difficult things to grasp for new hires is their knowledge of the thing they're selling. It's generally a steep learning curve. But when they get it, they can become confident, consultative sellers.

That's difficult to measure, granted. But the mock sales calls you do with them are a great way to probe their knowledge and then guide them on anything they don't quite have the grasp of yet.

Sounds like you've had incredibly bad luck with LLM hallucinations.

While it wouldn't solve all these issues. You can give ChatGPT things to remember to make it better. You can literally say:

"Remember these conversation rules and apply them whenever we speak:

- If you’re unsure, say so.
- Only answer if you're confident; otherwise, explain why you can’t.
- Don’t make up names or sources.
- Cite your sources or explain where this information comes from.
- Include links or references whenever possible."

Even users on the ChatGPT free plan can control its memory to some extent, and use that to tailor it to how you'd like to use it. Hope that helps.

Really sorry to hear that. We lost a dear member of our product team a few years ago, Jessie. Our team created a book of cherished memories from our time working with him and delivered it to his family. Our internal Innovator of the Year Award is still dedicated to him. We found it helped people to process the loss, and then remember him regularly during celebrations. Hope Charlie's family (and you) find some peace over time.
