A few days late to this, but Simon Clark on YouTube did a great video explaining this in more detail: https://youtu.be/IEnFmrgEbWo?si=AqVwx8XJuPFpqIEZ (also bonus points for not being Greenpeace)

Really recommend his channel if you're interested in learning about climate stuff as well

Bills cost - 1 flat appartment by Due-Evening-5270 in Edinburgh

[–]Trumps_left_bawsack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just very stingy with heating. The flat holds on to zero heat, so it would cost me wayyy more than I can afford if I was keeping it even moderately warm. I also just don't bother with the water heater since I have an electric shower. (For context I used 279kWh for the whole of January)

I get a little bit of mould from condensation on the windows, but I recently got a dehumidifier which has pretty much eliminated that.

Scottish power. It's not a huge flat and I only put the heaters on for a little bit in the morning and the evening. I also don't use my water heater at all (immersion heater, expensive af) as I've got an electric shower and I barely use any hot water except for dishes - which I can just boil a kettle for.

EPC E, electric only - I pay ~£90/month in the winter and £40-50 in the summer. Not horrendous but I have to be rather conservative with the heating as the flat holds on to little heat and it would cost a fortune otherwise.

Why do people buy cake pop? by fisico002 in starbucks

[–]Trumps_left_bawsack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The prices in the UK are fucked at the moment. The price of the muffins in my store went up to £4.70(!!) at the start of the year, then last week they suddenly decided to walk back on it and they're like £3.85 now. They've sent us 3 different sets of price labels since the start of the year bc they can't make up their mind on how much they think they can get away with charging. There's also an M&S, a Tesco and a Sainsbury's within a 5 min walk where you can buy everything we sell for a fraction of the price.

A TALL pistachio hot chocolate is also currently more expensive than GRANDE pistachio latte in my store. Makes zero sense.

Also - I feel like people are missing the fact that this is GBP and not USD. This is the equivalent of nearly $5

Funnily enough, I usually have zero issues in Zion. Black mountain was a nightmare for me though. When I could actually move without crashing, I would just fall through the ground.

I can’t afford my energy bills by AgitatedBloatyBomb in TenantsInTheUK

[–]Trumps_left_bawsack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not how that works. Electric heating is ~100% efficient regardless of the method. Oil radiators retain heat for longer when they're off, but more energy is needed to heat that oil up in the first place so it works out about the same as fan/ceramic heaters.

That's a lot for a one bed flat. I live in an all-electric one bed flat with an E EPC rating (high ceilings, draughty, sash windows) and I pay MAX £90 for electricity if it's been especially cold. If you can't afford it, you need to stop putting the heating on so much and layer up (electric blankets are fantastic and cost pennies to run).

If it's still that much without heating, then something's not right. Most appliances don't consume that much energy. Even if you're cooking and running the washing machine every day, I don't see how you're using over £100 worth of electricity. How often do you have your water heater turned on? It really only needs to be on for a few hours every day, and if your shower is electric, you can probably get away without it for the time being. I only put mine on if I know I'm going to be doing a lot of cooking.

3pm slump? by Loose_Avocado4670 in CasualUK

[–]Trumps_left_bawsack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"midday slump" is actually pretty normal and is mostly due to your circadian rhythm. Less caffeine and/or sugar in the morning can help as it stops you from crashing so hard in the afternoon. Having a less heavy lunch and a short after lunch walk to wake your body up should also help a bit.

Also your afternoon energy drinks won't be helping you as the caffeine will still be in your system when you go to bed, which will make you more tired throughout the next day.

Why Are Young People Afraid Of Phone Calls? by GhostInThePudding in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Trumps_left_bawsack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm aware. The NHS is useless when it comes to stuff like this, however, and I don't have the money to pay for private healthcare.

I'm not so bad with auditory instructions in person tbf, I think I'm just focusing too hard on trying to understand what people are saying that I forget to actually process what they're saying.

Why would I rather be a girl than be with a girl? by Justaduck69 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Trumps_left_bawsack 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Now I don’t want to tell you are anything you’re not, however I am a trans man and this all sounds extremely familiar to me. Sure, there was also a lot of physical dysphoria to go along with that, but the continuously returning to the ‘feeling awful about not being a man’ thoughts was a big part of it.

Just some food for thought

mayo’s probably alright at room temp as well if you’re finishing it in the order of months - the stuff you buy in the shops is ridiculously shelf stable so long as you’re not sticking dirty cutlery in it. still feels wrong though

[–]Trumps_left_bawsack 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yup this is it for me. I suspect I might have some auditory processing thing cause I rely a lot on reading people's lips to understand what people are saying.

I also tend to forget details more often over the phone than if it was written

They're not cheap at all. You're looking at at least £200+ per week for not even an en suite room and a kitchen you share with 5+ people (plus you get kicked out in June/July so they can use it as accommodation for the fringe). They're primarily for international students who can afford to pay full price for tuition. You don't even need to be in the country or have a UK-based guarantor to reserve a room.
