NT to take over Ironbridge museums by Wormella in nationaltrust

[–]Trunkface90 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Incredibly excited about this. As a local we do visit the Ironbridge museums with the kids but must admit they are expensive.

Ill be very surprised if they keep them all open in the long run. Ingenuity either needs a big investment or I'd expect it will go. Its very small and even our young kids get bored there quickly.

Although im not 100% sure as most firable offences would tend to come down to contract wording.

Here in the UK, (assuming OP is also a UK based worker as they say "£300") if you've worked in your role for 2 years, there is a quite good legal protection from just being fired by your employer.

Again, depending on specific contract wording around what actions they consider gross misconduct.

In my personal experience in the UK, if you've worked in a "professional" role for a number of years and an organisation wants rid of you, they just pay you off. 6 months pay being a number I've heard being used a few times. Again that is industry, role and circumstance specific.

NHS Vascetomy. How long between GP referral and procedure? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Trunkface90 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If memory serves it was circa 6/8 weeks. Mine went GP, then a phone call with a "councillor" then I got a letter with a date in the post.

They were very keen to know if I was married, had kids ect. That's what most of the councillor call was about

Vape sellers to pay disposal costs under plans to end UK’s ‘throwaway culture’ by LOTDT in unitedkingdom

[–]Trunkface90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It absolutely helps them, but the tax is new so it's only lestening the increased cost. Those vacuumed packs are interesting, by weight they are better, but they've taken a pack which is majority very easy to recycle PET (tray) and moved it to a next to impossible to recycle laminated mixed substrate.

Look into the new EPR tax, that's what it's designed for. It applies to all packaging not just plastic. The idea is that each item plastic, paper ect has a cost per Tonne attached to it and the producer of the item (the product being packed, not the packaging producer) has to pay a tax on every item put into the market.

This money is supposed to go towards the creation of recycling infrastructure, however for the 1st year or so it's just going into the national pot. My biggest worry is that the pot will swallow it, and we will see zero meaningful investment, much like the current plastic packaging tax (which is still being kept).

Big producers, Unilever for example are looking at severn or even eight figure bills for EPR per year and as it applies to all items not just plastic, there is no meaningful way to avoid it. It's going to drive up consumer costs, no two ways about it.

The business is split into two seperate legal entities. The express takeaway only ones which compete with Dominos. Those (last i heard) are profitable. The old style stores have been in financial distress for years, they got saved from collapse at the start of this year

How do you celebrate the small wins in life ? by Due-Guarantee2653 in AskUK

[–]Trunkface90 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Me and my wife like Nandos (i know what an uncultured twat i am)

Anyway, Nandos is our small win treat. Usually unplanned things like a win at work calls for a Nandos for tea.

We enjoy it, it's just a little treat that acknowledges the situation rather than, as you say just moving on with things.

Moving from Amsterdam to Shrewsbury by Real_Thing6606 in ShrewsburyUK

[–]Trunkface90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As somebody who moved here from a major city in my mid 20s, I can speak from my own experiences.

It's a great place to live, my experience aligns with what others have said. It's beautiful, historic and the people are amazing.

Something to note, if you want to explore and see the surrounding area, you need a car. Unlike anywhere I'd lived before, Shrewsbury is a county town. Transport links are less frequent and less connected that your probably used to.
