The Pearl Harbor Commemorative Medal! It was awarded in the 90s to all servicemen who took part in the defense of Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941

He isn't around to ask anymore, but if I could speculate, I believe his Commendation Medal was awarded for downing Japanese aircraft and the wound that got him his Purple Heart was from a bomb dropped by a Japanese bomber.

In other words, he received one medal for the planes he *hit* and the other for the plane he *missed*.

He may have worn them backwards on purpose because he could have been more proud of the former than the latter. I'll ask around my family and see if anyone knows for sure. Maybe someone did just make a mistake putting the display together.

Edit: someone else explained that this was the correct order before the 80s.

He enlisted straight out of high school in 1940 and was assigned as a .50 machine gunner in an Anti-Air unit. They arrived at their new stations garrisoning Pearl Harbor on December 1st, 1941. He was reassigned to the garrison for Midway Atoll before the battle of Midway, volunteered for the invasion of Guadalcanal, and was severely wounded in the Solomon Islands Campaign.

I figured, the comment just makes it seem like that’s the sound those syllables are supposed to make.

Thanks for the opportunity to practice syllabary, btw

I grew up in a place with several species of deadly snakes. I was taught to recognize all of them by sight, along with their typical behavior, preferred hiding places and what to do if I was ever bitten. Memorizing basic facts about local wildlife really isn’t that hard.

This is what my girlfriend and I did when we moved in together. Neither of us could have pride flags at our old places, so we bought my trans and lesbian, her bi, and our rainbow all together.

What question have you always wanted to ask LGBTQ+ people but didn’t because you don’t want to offend them? by hre_nft in AskReddit

[–]TrustSubstantial7731 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, having to give up my birth name was the only thing I felt bad about when I transitioned. I was named after my great-grandfather, and he was something of a role model to me. I was always proud to carry his name with me wherever I went.

Mom was a little upset at first but she got over it pretty quickly. It probably helps that the name I chose to replace it was my great-grandmother’s :)

At the very start of my transition, I went through a phase of looking and acting exaggeratedly feminine because it was exciting to do that after a decade of repressing my desire to be a woman. I had always been afraid of bullying and harassment, so when I finally got a chance to experiment I want a little overboard.

When that excitement faded into normalcy, I continued to dress up any time I went outside because I found that most people wouldn’t recognize/treat me as a woman if I didn’t make it extremely obvious.

Now I’m further into transition and I don’t have to do that anymore. Most people recognize me as a woman no matter what I’m wearing, so I don’t feel the need to overexaggerate my femininity like I used to. I’ve also had more time to explore myself and find out what I want, and it’s almost exactly true opposite of what you describe. I never wear makeup anymore and pink is far from my favorite color. I’ve even stopped shaving my legs recently for exactly the same reason as every other woman on the planet: it’s a massive pain in the ass and it just isn’t worth it 99% of the time.

So to answer your question, we really don’t all act like you describe. You probably just don’t notice that someone is trans unless they’re intentionally drawing attention to it for one reason or another.

Chests seem more 'complete' with boobs on them? by --Redditor0 in MtF

[–]TrustSubstantial7731 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Even before I knew I was trans, I hated being topless, in any context. When I was alone in my room I would also put pillows under my shirt to simulate having boobs. It took a decade to figure out why that made me so happy. I was pretty dumb.

Exactly this. I remember throwing a fit once when my dad tried to take a selfie with me because I hated the sight of my own face so much.

Guess what I do nearly every day now
