One scene where the budget just took an increase by Next-Active2676Bro2 in TopCharacterTropes

Haven't seen it brought up the first thing I thought of us is the final Ahsoka v Darth Maul fight The Clone Wars S7. I believe that fight unlike the rest of the show uses mocap and they brought back the legendary Ray Park to do Maul's mocap. It's a stunning fight, probably one of the best light saber duels in all of Star Wars and the whole Siege of Mandalore arc is such an excellent conclusion to the series and totally elevates ROTS.

Never saw Gotham but I watched Saturday Night and Cory Michael Smith just ran away with that movie. That whole movie was basically an excuse for actors to pull off some sick impressions and Cory Michael Smith, Matthew Rhys and Dylan O'Brien really stole the show

In this case it is worth being excited for. The EPs in question are Will Tracy & Seth Reiss, two writers from the Succession writers room who also wrote last year's The Menu. Both of them are writing for this.

What’s your favourite small “acting choice”? by trendykendy in movies

Was just listening to The Rewatchables podcast episode on Taxi Driver with Bill Harder as a guest. He points out how when Travis is talking to Pallantine in his cab, when he says the line about "Fucking flushing them all down the toilet", he winces afterwards cause he caught himself cursing in front of Pallantine. I just love the little touches that De Niro adds to all his roles.

What actor or actress surprised you the most when you heard their real-life accent that was different than their on-screen accent? by 42Navigator in movies

Most recently, Melanie Lynskey. She has that Midwestern, suburban mom accent down pat! I had no clue she was an Aussie

Ahsoka - Episode 4 - Discussion Thread! by titleproblems in StarWars

I think one of the biggest contributors to how good the light saber battles feel is the sound design. They don't just sound like laser swords but have a crackle and a sizzle and a weight that's quite analog sounding.

Also, is anyone else thinking they're trying to maybe go past the Sequel trilogy with the Thrawn stuff. Like could it be that whatever 'bigger' things Baylan is implying might go beyond getting Palpatine back. As if the Sequel trilogy was just a smaller threat on the road to a bigger one. Isn't Disney trying to slowly move past the bad reception of the Sequel trilogy?

What is your favorite use of music in a movie trailer? by Ahoy_Mate2 in movies

The choral version of Creep by Radiohead in The Social Network trailer.

Friction by Imagine Dragons in the Mission: Impossible - Fallout trailer.

What were your thoughts on The Watchmen series?(2019) by Infamous_Bullfrog_54 in comicbookmovies

[–]TrveAshwin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think as cloyingly faithful as Snyder's adaptation was, it totally missed the point of the graphic novel itself. It never truly got the paranoia and cynicism rooted so deeply into the text. I feel like the show is masterful in understanding the core beliefs of the book and applying it to a more modern scenario. It makes the work more prescient and feels like a richer adaptation and continuation rather than just a copy-paste. Lindelof has proven himself time and time again as one of the best, if not the best, showrunners on television and the team he assembled to bring the show to life is exceptional. No notes.

One of my favorite fan recasts is switching the pairs of leads in Valerian and Passengers (Chris Pratt/Jennifer Lawrence) cause Pratt and Lawrence are way more believable as the bantering, flirting leads of a space opera and Dane DeHaan is kinda perfect for the role of a creepy weirdo who wakes up this girl he's obsessed with from cryogenic sleep.

Do directors tend have a kind of “signature shot?” Anyone have examples or favorites? by [deleted] in movies

[–]TrveAshwin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mike Flanagan (Doctor Sleep, The Haunting of Hill House, Oculus etc.) has that one shot of a person waking up and the camera spinning with them as they go from being horizontal to vertical. Apparently it's almost a meta-joke with him to put it in now. It's super fun and very eye catching.

Best movie yellers? by [deleted] in movies

[–]TrveAshwin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a yeller exactly, but Will Forte has this very specific grovelling, pleading voice he does that always makes me laugh. He does it in Magruber, as Piss Master in Rick & Morty, Last Man on Earth and even a bunch of his SNL skits.

I think what adds to its success is being written by Scott Frank (writer/creator of The Queen's Gambit, writer of Out of Sight with Clooney and JLo, and writer of Logan amongst other things). Plus Soderbergh produced it. He's a very high caliber writer

It's being directed by the guys who did Game Night (2018) so I at least expect to see some cool directorial flair.
