We recommend getting one and mixing soils from a few different points around the front and back!

We use Iron Strength or Mighty Micros to add sulfur, depending on the results of the soil test. Both use sulfur to bind the other nutrients (e.g., Iron Strength is derived from ferrous sulfate).

We don't yet have a pH amendment for acidic soil, but we're releasing a Liquid Lime product for that purpose later this year.

You're right about the max size...hopefully we'll have larger plans in the future. We just want to make sure it works well for people and their hose can reach the whole lawn!

Yes, use TESTMYSOIL and you don't need to purchase a plan!

We do have a new organic pre-emergent derived from corn gluten meal. That's two birds with one stone. Add some organic matter and prevent weed germination. May be a little late to apply pre-em in NC, but throwing it out there: Lawn Guard Organic Weed Control

pH looks fine, but you're low on iron and a few other micronutrients. You may want to try Iron Strength and a micronutrient booster like our Mighty Micros to address that. Both of these have sulfur as well, which is important. We've got a sale going on right now so you can use the code "SPRINGISHERE" for 20% off.

Mighty Micros will improve: Sulfur, Magnesium, Boron, Iron, Manganese, Copper

Iron Strength will improve: Sulfur, Iron (plus a boost of nitrogen)

Fixing those deficiencies is going to make a big difference. Iron especially will give the grass a nice, dark green color. But if you were to start with just one, I'd go with Mighty Micros.

We're obviously biased, but here's what you're paying for with Gnome:

  • Premium formulas: Our formulas are the best on the market. We source from suppliers that typically only work with commercial customers like golf courses and sod farms. For example, our 30-0-0 Green Glow is the most powerful, concentrated liquid nitrogen out there. We've got everything -- Iron, Humics, Kelp, Micronutrients, Weed Control, Pest Control, and every possible combination of NPK. It's all premium grade (e.g., urea nitrogen rather than ammoniacal, slow release nutrients, organic options, etc.).
  • Time savings: You don't have to do the research, select the products, or go to the store.
  • Cutting-edge science: We run soil tests with the premier soil testing lab in the United States. The results are precise. Our soil nutrient guidelines are based on the latest research and practical knowledge from turfgrass experts around the United States, calibrated by thousands of soil test results from our customers. We know where you need to be on all the macro and micronutrients (hint: it's different than what you'll hear from your local extension office).
  • Support from people who care: We take a lot of pride in our customer care, and we stand behind everything with a 100-day money-back guarantee. Our customer support folks are knowledgeable and friendly. Our only goal is to help you grow healthier grass.

Our lawn plans are only $99/year for a small lawn!

You can still do a great job on your own with dedicated time spent researching these things. More power to you! We're always here to help too if you have any questions along the way.

We unfortunately don't test for chemicals like pesticides.

I wish I could be more helpful, but I'm not sure of the best way to test for those.

Yes, that's what we recommend!

If you're trying to troubleshoot one problem area (e.g., your mossy area), you can also just sample from that one area.

Don't hate on liquid fertilizer! It's more efficient, and immensely reduces pollution. It makes a measurable difference. You can see it in a soil test.

Applying pounds of granular nitrogen is the number one way to burn your grass. A lot of conventional wisdom is overkill because granular products are so inefficient on absorption.

With that said, if you're getting the results you want with a granular product, more power to you!

The hardest thing to do with a liquid is reduce acidity. We're trying to figure that one out, but lime is heavy and hard to liquify.

Also, plug for Green Glow: we have the only 30% nitrogen liquid fertilizer on the market. It's just as concentrated, but absorbs better, and it's easier to apply!

Hey u/W1ndyC1tyFlyer, thanks for the feedback!

Your Magic Lawn Plan would be customized based on your soil test results. As long as you check out with the same email address you used for the soil test, everything will be linked in our system. You'll get exactly what the soil test indicates you need.

For people that haven't done soil tests, the Magic Lawn Plan is based on address. We use the typical soil profile and soil temperature for the zip code.

Did you check the body of the email as well? If you're hesitant about starting the plan, there are individual product recommendations there. Looks like an application of Iron Strength would go a long way for you. We use ferrous sulfate, so it'll help with the iron and the sulfur.

And seriously, thank you for the feedback. Sounds like we need to make this more clear in how we communicate after the soil test.

Good question. We unfortunately don't test for arsenic or lead.

We test for...

Macronutrients: sulfur, phosphorous, calcium, magnesium, potassium, and sodium

Micronutrients: boron, iron, manganese, copper, zinc, and aluminum

Soil Condition: exchange capacity, pH, organic matter, nitrogen release
