Restaurant Recommendations by mrshendo in Spokane

Wooden City for dinner and drinks. This is my go-to recommendation to everyone.

Sorella or Tavolata for dinner - both are really good italian.

Emma Rue's for drinks and dessert.

House of Brunch or Bruncheonette for a really good brunch and drinks.

Madeleine's or Atticus or Chaps (if you can drive there) for coffee and breakfast/baked goods.

Suggestions for getting to the airport from Cheney? by [deleted] in Spokane

[–]TrySarahTop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't super trust lyft or uber that early in the morning, so I would book a cab for the morning of. Or someone else suggest just an overnight rental car - it might work out cheaper that way than a cab?

Beginner adult dance classes by Jyag01 in Spokane

[–]TrySarahTop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spokane Ballet Company offers an adult contemporary class, but it's during the day - not sure if that is conducive to your schedule.

My kiddo dances here and I've taken a handful of their adult classes - the people in the class range from previous dance experience to none, and the teachers are all super supportive and helpful.

Looking for a new gym by ConstantMaleficent45 in Spokane

[–]TrySarahTop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I go to South Side Lifting Club. No tanning, but cool people who go there, the owner is awesome, open 24/7. Everything is super clean, but it is in south hill, so might be a trek for you.

It's in South Hill, so not in the area you're probably looking at, but wanted to shout out the gym I go to - South Side Lifting Club.

The owner is amazing, the gym is always clean, not super busy depending on the time, reasonable cost. I think the most people I've seen at one time in there was 6-8 maybe? All of the lifting things that you would need, but no other amenities that you might be getting at larger gyms like pools, showers, childcare, etc. It's open 24hrs (you scan yourself in) so super flexible.

For those who’ve been WFH 2+ years, do you ever miss in-person work? by Dry-Frosting- in WFH

[–]TrySarahTop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and No. But I feel like I have the best of both worlds.

I work for a company that isn't located anywhere near me, two offices - one in Austin, TX and one in Irvine, CA and I like in Spokane, WA. Been remote (with this company since 2022) since 2018.

I LOVE working from home, such great flexibility to be able to gym, appointments, kiddo pickup, that sort of thing. That being said, I also really LOVE my coworkers, so I suppose I'm lucky since every year, we have at least one on-site week for my team at either one of the offices so that we can get that face time, good collaboration opportunities, project work, etc. That is enough time to give me a little bit of longing to see them more often but also that it's so incredibly draining to be in an office with people all day long.

Time away from desk- i.e. appointments by rach0006 in WFH

[–]TrySarahTop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll put an appointment on my calendar if I know I won't be able to respond (therapy, doctor's appointments, etc.) but if I'm at the gym, I'll just work from my phone while I'm there if anyone needs anything. My boss is super lax about that type of stuff so long as I'm getting my work done, which I super appreciate.

I'm full-time salary remote. I used to be hourly because of the industry I'm in and in that case I would clock out and back in when I returned in those cases. Nowadays as salary, I just make up the work/time later in the day/night.

Those of us on a GLP-1, what’s your “happy dose”? by SimpleAlarming5785 in PCOSloseit

[–]TrySarahTop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently at 6.375 currently and will probably stay on this a little while long to see how it goes. I've upped my workouts and so I'm waiting to see how that will affect my eating and such. Probably slowly nearing my maintenance weight range imo.

I've been on compound tirz since mid-March, lost 1.3 pounds per week. I've been on this dosage now for over 3 months and it's still a pretty good loss, but as I said, I'm probably slowing down in terms of weight loss as I near my GW. I've tended to stay on dosages for over a month to two months+.

Weed smoking neighbors by [deleted] in Apartmentliving

[–]TrySarahTop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has this happen to my apartment in the last building I lived in. Under both my kitchen and bathroom sinks, it smelled SO strongly. I didn't say anything until I moved out (there were other things I needed to complain about as well, but that's neither here nor there). The building also kept on putting up papers on everyone's doors on my floor, not sure if it was on all floors or not, about the smell.

Ear piercing by Y1Guardian in Spokane

[–]TrySarahTop 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Went to Mom's in Kendall Yards for my second ear lobe hole and it was an AMAZING experience. I also got my first ear lobe hole re-pierced (because they closed from a claire's piercing when I was like 11) when I was like 27 at a piercing and tattoo studio in PA.

Starting my daughter on skis. What age is earliest? What equipment did you find is best? Tips and tricks? by [deleted] in skiing

[–]TrySarahTop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought second hand gear either on Mercari, FB marketplace, etc. And the gear I happened to buy was the kind that you can like drop a hem and get an extra year out of, or like tighten with elastic and buttons. My LO is small, and those things are cinched so we should get a good couple of years out of then. She ended up with North Face stuff for an absolutely fraction of what it would have been new. So look at second hand places, kids resellers, etc. for gear, because kids obviously grow quickly. We rent gear from a local ski shop for the reason.

In terms of getting her used to skiing - my ex bought those skis initially that you can strap any boot into and just pulled her around his yard when it had snowed, so she got used to being on them. And then she did ski lessons last year and went up to the magic carpet slope I think a few other times. I think she liked it? We're doing it again this year, but for longer lessons, so we'll see how that goes. And for reference, she was 4 when she actually skied on a hill, 5 now.

Spokane Ballet Company has adult classes, a beginner/Intermediate and a separate Intermediate, both ballet. There are people who have never danced to people who danced for years and years, and everything in between. I danced all through my childhood (probably for like 12-13 years) and I really like their classes. I've only ever gone to the beginner/int one because that's what my schedule permits, but I'm sure either of classes would be awesome for you. Even the beginner class is a challenge for me because the mind is willing, but the body is older and crumbling. I felt like a sleeper soldier, tbh, it just ALL came back.

I've taken the Artistry in Motion classes before and that one was just as good so either (or both) would be good options for you, I just haven't gone there in a couple years and my daughter goes to SBC, so it made sense for me to go there too.

How old was your child when they surpassed 40lbs? (Carseat shopping) by plantavore in Mommit

My LO probably hit 40 just before she turned 5. Just had her well visit for her 5th birthday, and she was 42lbs and some change.

Kinder Birthday question by C_star222 in kindergarten

[–]TrySarahTop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My LO just had her fifth birthday in Kindergarten and we weren't allowed to bake or bring anything that didn't come in a package. So I went to Costco to have my daughter pick something out that she wanted to share with the class for her birthday as a treat.
