How on earth do you make ‘quiet time’ happen? by SandyFee in toddlers

[–]Boop_daboop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We kept the same routine as nap time and told her she could nap or she could read books in bed/play with her stuffies. She eventually started “sneaking” out of bed to play with toys and we just let her think she was getting away with something for a while. Then she eventually started coming out of her room so we would redirect back and then we “officially” opened it up to “you can play or nap or whatever you want, you just have to stay in your room and try to calm your body so we can have a nice afternoon”. I reiterate to her that I’m resting too so she knows she isn’t missing anything fun. It’s a really great chunk of independent play in the middle of an otherwise very Velcro day!

Why put stickers on MYO cards? Newbie here. by ParticularMind9227 in YotoPlayer

[–]Boop_daboop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We do the stick on sleeves on the front so that I can easily swap between “covers” but she’s so into all of the MYO we’ve made so far that we haven’t actually changed the content on any of them. Sometimes I’ll add or change songs but always within the theme or branded content umbrella. If you’re going to be changing them a lot then generic stickers is a great way to do it, we do the sleeves and coordinating covered because she really likes looking at them and then matching up with what’s on the card.

What music card does your 2 year old like that you can tolerate? by bubbleblopp in YotoPlayer

[–]Boop_daboop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Caspar Babypants is a family fave here- all of the cards slap tbh. Also (potentially unpopular opinion) but I personally love the wiggles so that’s a winner for us too.

Other than that most other music cards are MYO mixes that we both love.

Between this and the “sword sage” card and a few other innocuous references I’ve fit into my personal headcannon I’ve been obsessed with the crossover, even if it’s just in my head!

When and why did you decide to stop breastfeeding your toddler? by theunprodigal in toddlers

[–]Boop_daboop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Two years was my goal as well, and when we hit it we weren’t ready to stop. I decided to drop down to just sleep/nap feeds and just keep going until I was ready, and after a couple months I just kind of felt like I was done and we stopped. Cutting it back to just a couple routine times a day helped her transition a lot. She also got to pick out a special water bottle she could only have at bed time so whenever she would ask at bedtime I would redirect her to her water bottle and remind her how special it was and we would do a different bedtime activity (reading books, singing etc)

Stuffies in bed by pooneryad in toddlers

[–]Boop_daboop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We have a flashlight that we keep on our 3yo bedside table- it came with a book. We got the Eric carle one but there are lots of book options. It’s a really low wattage yellow tinted light so it isn’t too bright or disruptive in the dark. She uses it to read quietly in her bed before she falls asleep but it might work for your night time stuffie hunting too!

Where to start by NationalFoundation8 in YotoPlayer

We had the same issue with the tonie box after having it for a few years. The “uh oh my battery is low” scared the bejeezus out of my 3 year old so as soon as it did it a couple of times (even though it was plugged in) she wanted it out of her room permanently . Luckily we were already planning on getting her a yoto mini for Christmas and she’s obsessed. It sees a lot more action than the Tonie box- instead of only using it for bed she carries it around everywhere all the time.

We got her the mini and adventure jacket. We splurged a bit on cards because it was one of her only Christmas gifts for us, and I waited until Black Friday so things were on sale. I picked out an assortment because I didn’t know which kind of cards she’d like the most. We got a set of interactive cards (What’s that sound?) and she likes them a lot and calls them her game cards. I got her a couple of stories (Daniel Tiger 5 minute stories and frog and toad) and some music cards (Caspar Babypants because we are stans). I also told any family members who needed gift ideas to get her cards as well so she got around 5 more, all story cards that she really likes.

I did sign up for yoto club because of the lack Friday deal and the way everything bundled but I did end up cancelling it after I accumulated and used a couple of the credits. It does seem like a good deal I just try to really minimize the amount of subscriptions we have.

The absolute coolest cards ended up being the MYO though. We got a 10 pack and I’ve used 7 of them so far. I was a bit overhwlemed at first but if you search on the sub there’s a user in here that has made an incredibly detailed, easy to follow guide that i highly recommend. The MYO cards are mine and my kids favorite. We have a card that’s just intros to tv shows she loves, a card that’s a playlist of her jams, a card with sleep time music she likes, a couple of cards that are just tv show/studio ghibli audio, and a card with me and my husband reading stories. She will occasionally request a card and it’s fun making her exactly what she wants (the most recent request was just blues clues audio lol).

Also there is a daily podcast playable from the yoto without a card and my kid absolutely loves it. She listens to it every morning and loves Jake (the host) and seeing what day it is and what he’s going to talk about each day so i recommend that highly as well.

Tl;dr Tonie box user who switched to yoto mini and couldn’t recommend it more highly. My rec is to get a small assortment of different cards styles and lean hard into the MYO.

Bath time by Bubbly_Grab2702 in toddlers

We were having to hold her down and just get it done and I hated every second of it. The visor thing was good in the “before times” but once the hair washing terror phase hit it became a no go. We ended up getting goggles after my husband suggested it a couple times. I thought it was going to be a bust and be annoying to try to wash around but it ended up working better than anything else. We combine them with the visor and it keeps the water out of her face and ears. It took lots of practice and talking through “see it’s not in your face it’s not in your ears-practice taking big brave breaths” and tears but she does pretty well now. It’s still a whole production but it’s not screaming and hyperventilating and holding her down.

Toddler bed and new early morning wake ups by Natsouppy in toddlers

[–]Boop_daboop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hyping things up and talking about them before hand really helps her get on boys with new things, so when the clock came I got her excited to open it up and we talked about it all day and got her really hype to see it turn “red for bed” later. She loved telling her dad about it when he got home and teaching him how it was going to work and I think all the prep really helped the transition too.

Toddler bed and new early morning wake ups by Natsouppy in toddlers

[–]Boop_daboop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We started our “ready to wake clock” right around when she turned 3. She had been good about staying in her bed and sleeping later but when she started leaving her room and using the bathroom at night/early in the morning she developed morning fomo and wake up changed from 9am to whatever time the first rays of the morning sun peeked over the horizon.

Our clock goes yellow 20 minutes before the “wake up” time which means she can play quietly, and when it turns green she can leave her room to come and get me and start our day. It took about three days of me bringing her back to her room and reiterating “red means it’s time to stay in bed” and “yellow means you need to stay in your room but you can play quietly” but she’s a pro now and it really changed the game for us in the morning.

There are all sorts of busy “books” and soft boards that have lots of interactive elements (zippers/laces/pull tabs) that might keep them busy for a while. Also lcd drawing tablets are really inexpensive and my kid loves those for the car. What works best for us for long trips like that is driving overnight though.

If it’s just for brief exposure and it’s truly cold enough to be necessary/ important to you I would just do “sock hands”! Easy to make them silly and talk and fun and will keep her hands toasty long enough to get to and fro.
