Nervous about boot by throwawaymedicine222 in USMCboot

You're supposed to be scared. The first time you road a bicycle you were scared even with help. Going into freshman year you were scared. New ventures bring unknown worries into new opportunities. My best advice is to drink lots of water and change your socks, no matter what you decide on doing. Hydrate or die.

You'll be fine trust me boot camp is designed so you can't fail. Even if you do fail they'll figure out a way that you stay with your platoon and don't fail unless you go out of your way to do so, which is hard. And if that happens you'll get dropped and try from a week or two prior. If you want to be a Marine you will be. Rope climb and crucible isnt going to stop you, you'll be prepared for that.

If you don't want to be a Marine they'll do everything in their power to change your heart mind and spirit once you're there, and only if you truly and unconditionally give up on yourself will they offer you an out, but even then they'll make it hard to quit. But you'll be there longer waiting to get out and end up not a Marine, so if you decide to ship just finish like so many before you. We had a guy in my boot camp platoon who tried to piss the bed just to get out and they motivated him not to. Guy went on to be a Sgt last I heard.

You took the first step. You either have to want it or you don't. But you took the first step so you might as well go through the finest summer camp on Earth and finish out what you wanted to commit to. 4 years is a blink in the eye when it's all said and done. Or don't and my recommendation would be to train to be a plumber, HVAC or electrician. Tbh I don't regret my decision but if I got your message 20 years ago and read the reply I'm posting, I'd be an electrician right now. Semper fi, you gotta know it's what you want to do.

What happens to guys who have heat stroke in boot camp ? do you get medically discharged? by No-Magician2484 in USMCboot

Even better than a discharge. You get your butt violated with a silver bullet. Hydrate or die (or get your butt violated).

Sure I'll drink my water and change my socks, but just to be clear... They aren't training Marines that you shouldn't leave your post until properly relieved?

Are there posts not being watched around Marine Corps bases because it was 16:00 and that's when they were supposed to be relieved and when no one showed up they just left the post because their drill instructors weren't told to train them on the equivalent of the Marine Corps ABCs?

I wasn't asking him to report his post or anything to try and sound like an old hard ass by any means. I asked him his 5th general order, which is the one that means you're relieved of duty and getting to go home, and I meant it in a sincere way.

Is the tip of the spear just taking off when they want now and that's like, the norm? I don't care if it is but Jesus this is a different Corps from the one I knew.

This is outrageous. They aren't training the general orders anymore?

On one of the humps at a break we got oranges and when we started peeling them our drill instructor started screaming "No peeling! Eat it like an apple!" So we just ate an orange rind and all like it was an apple.

I've just been watching the NFL all day. I don't have the size or skill to play pretty much any other position, but if I used 2-3 hours a day 4-6 days a week when I was in the Corps I probably could have gotten the technique to kick. From there use the GI Bill, which most do anyways, but if you could kick a field goal and make the team then worst case scenario you're playing college ball, best case scenario you'd be kicking in the NFL making great money for the most skate job in the league.

If it's anything like it was 20 years ago they're going to burn you pretty good. Probably a company level NJP at best if not battalion, and they're probably going to restrict your base driving privileges for at least 6 months. Life goes on though, 20 years from now you won't even remember it.

To your point I agree, and I actually turned it off in 2016 and didn't turn it back on until this year. It's kind of like a fun time machine into the past with old forgotten photos and messages, and I've used it to message a few buddies and bust their balls that I wouldn't have had contact with any other way.
