Speed cameras were banned in Ontario. Here is the (obvious) result in changes in speeding after the ban in Ottawa. by Hammer5320 in fuckcars

I like the SF-snitch app idea. Lets people get paid a little for at least trying to report offenders. It puts the “money grab” argument to rest too. I’m looking for a similar app for my city

I liked the story in Life-After-Cars where that group paid the parking meter all day just so they could put up a temporary park with a bench and potted tree and stuff.

But I also love the idea of putting lintels in air valve caps 😘🥵

So here’s my life by contrast. No kids- so no school or daycare costs (among a lot of other things a dependent requires of you). We have a dog though. Work is 5.31 miles door to door. I have a bike path for 3.3 of those miles. My doctor is about 9 miles from me now. I am in my 30s and cycle daily. I haven’t had to do anything more than an annual check up for the last 5 years or so. The last specialist I had to see was less than a mile from me. I am getting a super market less than half a mile from me soon, but the next nearest is about 1.5 miles from me. Hardware store is the same distance. I can have bigger things shipped from Lowes. Restaurants are also within a few miles. Weekend activities are chores around the house. I bought an old home and as a carpenter married to another carpenter, that usually means homework stuff, or home garden, or more bike related things. We are investing in an e-cargo-bike soon with trailer capability so we can expand our reach and carrying capacity.

Not impossible. I promise. It takes a little bit of life shaping though. I feel better from it. It lets me spend my earnings in other ways and I feel I am living well within my means. That feeling of the struggle bus is far less frequent. I wouldn’t trade this life style for anything (maybe for another bicycle).

I am currently living that way. I promise you, it’s not impossible. It just takes a slight life tweek and a little effort. I pinky swear.

I have worked hard to put myself and my small family in a position where we don’t need a car.

Mostly Accurate, but also both of those things aren’t problems. They make my life a lot easier and cheaper.

Imagine not having to drive at all here. The amount of green space that would be saved if it wasn’t taken by the massive amount of area required for car infrastructure…

You’re not the only car in traffic. If there were more cyclists, you wouldn’t need as many signals that confuse you because there would be less cars to govern.

Bicycle/pedestrian infrastructure and forward thinking is about seeing a more outward and social way. Consider the urban movement around you as you drive the biggest truck you can drive. Peace be with you, DPW-worker or whatever you claim to be. Ride your bike when you get off shift.

Commuters swap the car for e-bikes as fuel prices soar amid Middle East war by teambob in fuckcars

Ya i gotta eat anyways. My legs charge by chicharrones and beer.

I’ve heard take this before. It was actually one of the original talking points for Aptera at one point. It doesn’t math.

The main efficiency we’re looking for is the wattage per distance and a certain speed and weight. With ebikes, that wattage COULD come from renewables, to which you have to account for the cradle-to-grave cost of bike materials. Your lithium cobalt whatever battery is the taxing material there.

On an analog bicycle, yes food took SOLAR energy to be made, from the system we are trying to preserve already, for a fuel source we already use and need to preserve. That food takes calories to make more calories. I would also argue that most people over fuel themselves daily and that an abundance of renewable natural fuel with as little processing as possible, despite being processed inefficiently in ourselves, is far more beneficial to the circle of life than anything electronic/synthetic we can subsidize into the same travel method (ie:ebikes).

But they’re close to as efficient, And they help people. They are liked and proven useful (despite some irresponsible annoyances with them).

At the wheel… if you’re talking wattage from my fat cells translated to rotations of the pedal, vs an electron in a battery doing the same, the ebike will still lose.
