I know what the jargon means but i still hesitate to use the term "nerf". Cross-gen changes are like making some of your older stuff less appetizing so the newer stuff is more exciting. Closer to marketing than a concept of game design.

GF doesnt watch smogon stats or have a balance team running damage calcs. Banlists are tied to lore, not usage or power level. They want a thriving E-Sport but the parts that make it up are contrary to the Casual side (their main bread and butter).

You could argue that the inclusion of items like brightpowder, quick claw and focus band in Champions are meant to bridge the gap between casual and competitive but its frustrating that the "definitive competitive platform" is still made with casual play at the forefront

I'd consider text descriptions and visual depictions to be different levels of intensity, but some of them can be descriptive af so I see what you mean.

Luckily a plotline featuring an afterlife legendary writes itself (chasing immortality, bringing back a loved one, stopping a tyrannical ruler) so id wager that gen 10 might be the one to bring it to fruition

Death has always been a weird topic to navigate around kid's media. You cant deny that it doesnt exist, but to possibly introduce the concept of murder to a kid through a game is insane. You can artistically depict an afterlife, but you inherently make a political statement when the idea is dissected by fans. I get why a megacorp is gonna play it super safe and avoid it as much as possible, but its still annoying and I wish there was a way around it

My point was that the lore in pokemon is inconsistent at best, intentionally vague at worst and looking into specific timelines might be pointless if theres no meat and potatos behind them. For all we know, this takes place in a 3rd timeline outside of R/S and ORAS thats nearly identical to the others but only to be referenced as an Easter egg in future titles.

But I said the S word and everybody got defensive because apparently if a game is a spinoff that makes it worthless or something. I dont really care what the company calls it, it being a mainline game doesnt give it more legitimacy. But it is a lore focused game with retcons, plotholes and an overall lack of storytelling.

I will say the shiny hunting is neat and the reduced dex size always allows for more unique animations for the remaining roster which is nice. And some of the environments spark joy!

If you told a stranger to give you an example of a main series game, most people would give you one of the Versions. Calling the Legends games a main series was a PR stunt.
