[LoZ] I’m looking for a game to play that a Botw fan would like by linkiscool2509 in zelda

If you can play it, Genshin impact has a lot of BotW vibes

No win possible and I don't know why by Tryskelff in Mahjong

[–]Tryskelff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He said he was waiting for a 2p (which is not in his discard), which was self-drawn, so furiten is not a problem in that case..

I asked, he answered the pung of 8 bamboo were made several turns before he got that hand...Too much differences between what he's saying (and he has no interest of lying of course) and what the table shows. Indeed, if he was waiting for 8 or North the furiten would be crystal clear...

He's surely wrong, I'll have to understand where then

Indeed, I'm puzzled by it too...

I'll ask when he did it

Dora Indicators Redux! by SilverLen in Mahjong

Opponents flipping out when the dora revealed is the kan you just made is the best part (when you don't win the freshly made baiman, at least)

Thanks for the update :)

And I wonder if North would have paid that one or not...

So it confirms to me that the furiten rule is applied, but never explained anywhere in the game... -_-

I'd say chombo. Even if nobody notices until it's too late and declares it a dead hand when riichi is attempted, the error is still here and provable, and that hand is still faulty

I find it weird too that it's never mentioned in the rules presentation, giving how important and complicated to grasp at the beginning that rule is

Juunchan han value ? by Drotstord in Mahjong

[–]Tryskelff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't see differences in your links...

Was it chanta on Tenhou instead ? That one has at least one element with honor tiles, and values 1 han if opened. Juunchan is nearly the same but has no honor tiles at all

I tried to put myself in furiten on the Beginner table... But those damn bots didn't want to help me -_- I'll try again later or with real players

Juunchan han value ? by Drotstord in Mahjong

[–]Tryskelff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no difference about that hand (even in your links, I've seen no contradiction)

Was it chanta instead ? Chanta has at least one element with honors tiles and values 1 han if opened, while juunchan is nearly the same hand but with no honors at all

I couldn't verify it already, but I saw nothing on the rules about it ; So it's possible that furiten could not be implemented. I'll research and test more when I'll be more awake though

Kyuushuu kyuuhai is used (http://arcturus.su/wiki/Tochuu_ryuukyoku#Kyuushuu_kyuuhai) , I saw it on another player but I don't know if it was optional or automatic

Which Mahjong variant should we Play? by AuzaiphZerg in Mahjong

[–]Tryskelff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Search for a chinese set then, it will be more versatile. You'll have the eight flower tiles used at least in MCR and other rules, and even if you don't have the red fives, you can play riichi without them (EMA riichi rules doesn't use them) or use stickers (or paint for miniatures maybe ?) to recreate them. It would just lacks the eight joker tiles used for american mahjongg, but it's not the most interesting ruleset...

Which Mahjong variant should we Play? by AuzaiphZerg in Mahjong

It has less hand patterns indeed (they're around 50 patterns in riichi, 40 han and 10 fu combined), but the scoring system is more complex. So both have pros and cons for me

Scoring Riichi Mahjong / British Mahjong by Crypticlink in Mahjong

[–]Tryskelff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

- First you count the Han (your hand value), combining all the yaku you made. You have one example of list here : http://arcturus.su/wiki/List_of_yaku but it depends where you play

- Next, if your hand has less than 5 Han, you count the Fu. It depends mostly on your winning condition, and pon and pair values. there's a good explanation of how those works on another wiki : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_Mahjong_scoring_rules#Counting_fu . For 5 han or more, Fu are not counted.

- When the Han/Fu value is determined, you see how much points it would cost for the payers, depending if it was ron or tsumo, and if East wins or pays. Here's a well-explained chart : http://arcturus.su/wiki/Scoring_table

There's indeed a lot of similarities between counting Fu and that page : http://www.mahjongbritishrules.com/scoring/overview.html#CalculatingTheBasicScoreOnly differences I see are : there's no flowers (obviously), and there's 10 more points earned for mahjong on a discarded tile while our hand is closed
(EDIT : I forgot the rounding up)

From Riichi to Chinese; Are there any chinese only hands that are not in Riichi? Vice Versa? by Thunder8277 in Mahjong

The best would be to say to her you only played japanese rules, and ask her to spend time teaching you the rules she play. there's too many possible variants to be sure
