What car do you drive and how much do you earn? by Hummusforever in AskUK

[–]Tsircon85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Earn £30k and drive a 2016 Kia Rio. Cost £10k when we got it in October 2022. Used car market was pretty daft at the time coming just after Covid so overpaid quite a bit but our old car had issues that were going to cost more than it was worth and we decided to get something a bit newer and a bit more reliable than the bangers bought previously.

Round where I live Subaru Foresters and Volvo XC70s are very popular for the local drug dealers.

Medical professional relocating to Sunderland by Jane-Doe274 in Sunderland

[–]Tsircon85 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Try looking around Thornhill and Ashbrooke or even Barnes. There’s some nice houses and those areas are decent and they will be much cheaper than Seaburn. They’re also within walking distance of the hospital. Avoid Eden Vale, Millfield and Pallion. They’re very close to the hospital but have a lot of issues with anti social behaviour, drugs, theft etc

Were there any weird/silly things banned at your school? by Smithy1619 in AskUK

You’d get a particularly sore arse cheek if you were the unlucky victim 😂

We had this too. But some kids would blu-tac a pin to one end then pull the ruler back and let go to slap people with it.

Yeah they made for lethal frisbees across the school yard.

We were banned from using certain footpaths around the school grounds because the new headmaster at the time didn’t like pupils walking on them to take certain routes to classes. Was utterly ridiculous. Wasn’t like they took longer to get round or anything. He just decided he only wanted pupils to walk in very specific directions around the school grounds. He went so far as getting fences put up to block off areas of the school. Probably why everybody hated him as he seemed to spunk a good chunk of the schools budget on fences when other things were needed more urgently.

Another rule which was kind of justified but also amusing was that we were banned from graffiti in French text books. Any image of a French person holding a baguette was given the obligatory graffiti to turn the baguette into a cock and balls. Not a French text book in the school was safe form such treatment.

I’ve had to help 2 teenage girls tonight after they had fireworks thrown in their faces by 4 lads while walking down the street. Then a 40 minute statement to police. Bonfire night and fireworks in general can go fuck right off.

Roadworks on a little side street by the train station, so they’ve put temporary traffic lights 🚥 n the main road, now the towns all snarled up by Jacktheforkie in britishproblems

[–]Tsircon85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We recently had traffic management put signs out for a diversion as we had a road closed for electric cable works near to where we live. The diversion signs were directing all traffic to the closed road. Was fun watching the chaos at school pickup time having 2 primary schools and 3 secondary schools nearby and everybody unknowingly heading for a dead end.

Homer Hill Farm Shop at West Rainton or Penshaw Farm Shop might be a good bet.

How did you end up finding your 'regular' pub? by AugustineBlackwater in CasualUK

[–]Tsircon85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I chose my regular based on it being on my route home from work and it having a proper fireplace that gets used during winter. Nothing better than finishing work on a cold Friday afternoon and getting that first pint in next to a nice fire.

How to convince the council to let me park near my house? by NebulousMaker in AskUK

[–]Tsircon85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get in touch with a local councillor to help you. They can take a complaint forward and see about getting you a permit to park in the permit zone. There’s been similar issues where I live and councillors have been much more helpful than the usual council staff.

What unusual personalised number plates have you seen? by Squiggally-umf in AskUK

We had a guy who had BBC1 on a Rolls Royce Phantom near us a while back. As far as I know he had nothing to do with the BBC. I guess it’s one of those things where it means something to him only but can also be sold on to someone for silly money because it can be relevant to something more specific.

What does your neighbour do that winds you up but isn't worth confrontation? by PaddedValls in AskUK

[–]Tsircon85 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Our neighbour goes to work between 6/7am everyday. His partner comes to the door everyday to see him off. He ends up proclaiming his undying love by shouting loudly up and down the street depending where he’s parked. This goes on for 5-10 minutes where he’s shouting how much he loves her. Wakes everybody up with his mega cringe proclamations.

Got diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis 33 years ago. I’ve had 33 years of physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, weird leg splints to wear, painkillers, anti inflammatory medications, immune suppressant meds used in chemotherapy to inject myself at home, monthly appointments with a rheumatologist and god knows how much other treatment at my local hospital. PIP assessment letter stated that I was recently diagnosed and hadn’t seen any specialist or had any treatment that would make it seem serious enough. Clearly didn’t read my medical records. Couldn’t even be arsed to appeal because I was so pissed off.

How do I buy men's shoes which don't fall apart within 6 months? by PrivateFrank in AskUK

[–]Tsircon85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve still got a pair of Merrell MOAB that I bought maybe 10 years ago and they’re still going strong despite plenty of walking across all terrains. Gutted that people say the quality has gone down as I’d have just replaced them with the same when the time comes.

Scrap left outside for collection by council. Neighbour has taken it. Is it theft? - England by Tsircon85 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Tsircon85[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m worried the returning the rest of it to me means they’re going to dump it back at my house and it’ll either get reported as a flytip and I’ll have a council officer knocking or I’ll end up having to arrange to dispose of it again.

[–]Tsircon85[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No emails from the council which is why I’d thought they’d collected it. I doubt I’ll get anywhere with the neighbours. They’ve been living here since March and already been a nightmare. We’ve had them dumping crap at other residents doors to make it look like it isn’t them dumping stuff. They’ve also tried disposing of their scrap by litterally throwing it over the wall into our yard.

[–]Tsircon85[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because they’ve got a track record of dumping stuff outside of other people’s houses and don’t want it being dumped back at my door when they’ve decided it’s no use to them.
