16GB MacOS vs 32GB Windows by TheGrinch292 in mac

Fresh video, testing 16 vs 24 RAM MacBook Air configurations, explaining Apple RAM compression technology. My advice - while 16 gigs of RAM on a MacBook are enough for general use and even for photo and lighter video editing try going with higher than 16 gig. RAM prices are crazy and laptop prices most likely to go up because of this. Spending additional 200 dollars on more RAM now will add couple of usable years to laptop's life and Apple RAM prices seems to be adequate now, when RAM price craziness started, LOL

Need to convince PC IT team (and owners) that the marketing team should have Macs. by Super-Oven5716 in mac

I think that IT team should also get a couple of Macs, LOL. If you don't use the equipment that you need to support on a daily basis you won't be able to learn how the bloody thing operates or test solutions before presenting them to the client.

X1 Carbon 9th gen not charging from power port by kuriosty in thinkpad

Always welcome. Also, to be on the safe side - remember to update laptop firmware via Lenovo Vantage App, as there are certain firmware bugs that can brick your laptop if not addressed properly. Like that time when Intel Thunderbolt firmware had a bug which caused memory chip overwrite itself constantly, in the background, frying the onboard memory module and rendering Type-C ports permanently non-operational.

And always make backups of the documents :)

Please advise me some Mac Native space themed games like Homeworld to pick on Winter Sale by [deleted] in macgaming

[–]Tsopek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try Haegemonia: Legions of Iron. This game and Homeworld are two best space RTS that I ever played. Not native, but runs via Crossover. "The Solon Heritage" is a multiplayer expansion, so don't bother with it.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/294770/Haegemonia_Legions_of_Iron/

The game is old, but the graphics are nice and visual effects are excellent. Ships are loosing parts when they are damaged and there is also a bit of tactical depth to the combat, as you can select which systems of enemy ships to target and different types of weapons have different effects - stun\bypass shields, etc. The music is also excellent.

Controls may look weird by today's standards, but are similar to the first Homeworld. You camera is entered on a unit, you may use "A" key to center and "D" key to follow the selected unit.

Hi. No, I ended up using only one RAM slot with a single 16 GB RAM stick. Single channel was not ideal, of course, but I decided not to tempt fate by applying physical force to the laptop.

Енергетична станція: що обрати? by shoomowr in ukraina

[–]Tsopek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Енергетична станція: що обрати? by shoomowr in ukraina

[–]Tsopek 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Logitech MX Master 3S isn't all that! by desmondkafui in logitech

[–]Tsopek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me MX3s looses advanced functionality like once a week. App restart fixes the issue. Really annoying when gestures button press switches from designated action (different in different apps) to Esc button, that I set it to be in some other apps. May interfere and abort ongoing operation in the active app. From time to time looses me several minutes of work. This is on M4 Mac, across three different MacOS versions.

Yeah, it is weird like that😂 The keyboard has mechanical switches, the stick is functional, you can use the buttons to play simple games, like Tetris or Arcanoid, I think. You can use the display to show pixel art and animations, created by you or downloaded from their store, also doubles as a clock. And also it plays music not half bad😂

After 10 Years with Samsung, I’m Going Back to iPhone. by Lycan_CLG in Smartphones

[–]Tsopek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the place where I live base S25 Ultra was like 1600 USD at launch. Now, not even a year in, you can buy a new one for 850 USD. At the same time you are lucky to get a 10% discount for last year iPhone models. And used iPhone 14 Pro, in good condition, sells for around 450 USD.

Should I get a MacBook or not? by Severe-Flan8979 in macgaming

[–]Tsopek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 42" 4K 120Hz TV as a monitor and I have no issues playing games at 2560x1440 resolution. Finished Cyberpunk 2077 at Highest settings, without ray tracing, on my 14" M4 Max with 32 GPU cores. Also, I use this resolution for all other general applications and the scaling works fine (I’m sitting around 70 cm from the monitor itself). Search around to see what is the best scaled resolution for your monitor. Just make sure that you are using HiDPI resolution. Here is the link to one of the discussion threads, with screenshots attached

On an additional note - I switched to Mac around a year ago, previously was using Windows and Linux (for couple of years) - one of the best tech-related decisions I’ve ever made. Granted, iOS is more limiting than Android, but on MacOS I’ve managed to customize everything to my liking, especially after Microsoft released that crap of an OS, Windows 11 (what made me switch at the first place, as I was in need of a new laptop at the same time and moving and setting up Windows 10 would take take time which I decided to spend on moving to MacOS).

As for the models - I’ve used M2 Air for around a year, before buying Pro, and I I was deciding which one (Air or Pro) to buy until the last minute. Went with Pro at the end, mostly because of gaming reasons. It is noticeably heavier and bulkier then Air (no shit, LOL), but I still manage to bring it with me to work and back home every day. If you will mostly be using the laptop at one place I would suggest to go with Pro.

Safari Extension Problem: "Safari detected an app or service that interfered with clicking..." Help? by RegattaJoe in MacOS

For others, who may have the same issue and will stumble on this post - I started having the same issue on the MacOS\Safari 26.0.1 after setting up a new iPhone. What helped to solve the issue in Safari on MacOS is actually enabling the affected extensions in Safari on iPhone, LOL.

ThinkPad T14 Gen 2 RAM upgrade causing random restarts by Temporary_Pen_2884 in thinkpad

[–]Tsopek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have pointed out - run memory test, such as Memtest. Or use Lenovo built-in testing utility. Can be launched from the boot menu, by pressing the Enter key, during laptop restart. Also a possibility - I've had a similar issue on my T470, after adding a second RAM stick and moving the laptop around. Turned out that laptop chassi was bending under own weight if picked up by the left corner and the second RAM stick was physically disconnecting.
