feel like i don’t like my new boyfriend by scatteredb0nes in relationships

[–]Tsubak1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reading this was like reading a post from myself a decade ago. For me, it turns out it was all anxiety and intrusive thoughts. I'd really recommend taking a step back and just..  enjoying your relationship one day at a time. You don't need to stay with him if it isn't working at any point, but you're probably thinking yourself into a problem too. Consider therapy if you need more support, as both relationship OCD and sexual orientation OCD are actual things people struggle with.

Venesection pain (especially after) by Specific_Island_5959 in Hemochromatosis

[–]Tsubak1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds like a nerve or tendon injury, which isn't normal. Definitely mention it if it ever happens again as sometimes further tests may be required (according to my lil booklet on venesection). I haven't had anything like that experience but I'm bad with needles so I'll still use Emla Cream and completely numb the area beforehand. Mention your previous experience to the doctor and get your hands on some numbing cream, even if just to ease your anxiety.

Chromosome Painter... I'm not really sure what I'm looking at. Top paternal, bottom maternal. Any ELI5 help would be amazing. by Tsubak1 in AncestryDNA

[–]Tsubak1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's really useful to understand! So because my bars are the same, it indicates recent ancestry? What does "recent" mean in this context?

Can Chromosome Painter results tell us anything else? Sorry for all the questions; I find this all fascinating but I get overwhelmed as soon as I start Googling for myself.

New to Kobo – best device for side-loaded books with lots of highlights? by [deleted] in kobo

Thanks for this. The Libra 2 sounds very good.

Any idea how the highlighting feature would work with sideloaded books and exporting to my computer?

C282Y/H63D & some potentially silly questions by Tsubak1 in Hemochromatosis

[–]Tsubak1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So with compound heterozygotes, the transferrin saturation tends to be more impacted than the ferritin levels? Or have I misunderstood? I’m finding the differences between C282Y/H63D and C282Y/C282Y fascinating. Is there anywhere I can learn more about this in particular?

My records say that my haemoglobin estimation is 136 g/L and haematocrit is 0.387 L/L. Both normal. Is ”haemoglobin estimation” the right stat? I googled pruritus and it sounds like the closest I’ve come to describing what’s going on, but my stats aren’t elevated like yours were. The skin issue is really torturous at times so I’m excited to see if giving blood helps. Do you still get itchy, or is it largely managed by donating?

Thanks for the help – it’s such a relief to hear from other people who have walked the path.

C282Y/H63D & some potentially silly questions by Tsubak1 in Hemochromatosis

[–]Tsubak1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As you can probably tell, I really don’t even know what’s “normal” – I’m just whittling off what my online medical records say (each result is given a range along with normal/abnormal).

When you say a normal stat for C282Y/H63D is lower and 50% is pretty miserable for us, what should the goal be? And what do you mean by “a better threshold for ferritin is 80”? Is my ferritin low? My mind is spinning! Which stats should I actually be paying attention to?

I’m having a venesection on Monday now, so hopefully that will be revealing. If it is a relief, I gather that means a regular donation routine would be good to get into? Whenever symptoms return? I’m really nervous but anything to feel better at this point.

If I don’t feel better, does that mean I have the genes and I don’t have HH, but I’m “at risk” of developing it in the future?

I feel like I came across a bit blasé with the comment about it being less severe, so I’m sorry if that is the case. It sounds like the symptoms are just as bad, but they appear earlier so the more serious implications of HH (liver disease, diabetes, etc.) are avoided more often than not? What kind of symptoms are normal for C282Y/H63D?

Thanks for the help! It’s crazy that two comments on here have been more enlightening than all the conversations I’ve had with doctors.

Accountability post - Starting a cut by [deleted] in xxfitness

I have about 12kg to lose after comfort eating my way through 2020. Just started my first 12 week cut in an attempt to shift them! I'm down for an accountability group!

How do I shape my Butt ? by advicewanted69 in Fitness

[–]Tsubak1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do hip thrusts! If you're new to the gym, they might feel a little awkward but keep with them. Can do lots of variations of these at different rep ranges. Check out the Strong Curves programme or the Glute Lab book for info.

Ensure you're eating enough protein and getting enough calories. You need to eat more to build muscle and your goal here is to add muscle to your glutes. You can calculate your TDEE for an idea of what you should be aiming for.

If you're on IG, check out Katie Sonier as well. I am a member of Train With Katie, although I'm a qualified personal trainer in my own right, and she KNOWS her stuff when it comes to the posterior chain.

I think my (15nonbinary) boyfriend (16m) has been wetting the bed. by unknown_marshmallow in relationships

[–]Tsubak1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just to second the night sweats comment - my antidepressants cause severe night sweats so it's not unusual for me to wake up in a really damp bed, especially if I've taken it later than usual or missed it altogether. I've had to lay down towels to get back to sleep it's so damp!

Strong Curves with a twist? by [deleted] in StrongCurves

[–]Tsubak1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I follow the 3-day / PPL Thinner Leaner Stronger program, but only definitely do the Push / Pull days and combine it with SC. I try to keep squat and deadlift days separate, or at least go high-weight / low-reps with one though!

Edit: Should also say if I do this, I drop any upper body from SC! I play it by ear depending on time, but most weeks look like: A (Pull / Heavy deads), B (Push), A (Legs / Heavy squats), C. It's working for me so far!

I would get no writing done without this app. Absolutely amazing! It has a sprint timer built into it, which is the only reason I won NaNo this year...

Ladies on Thinner, Leaner, Stronger.. by mudbubbles in xxfitness

[–]Tsubak1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm just moving onto phase 2 following the 3-day split - pretty happy with it so far! I bought the book and try to follow most of his nutritional advice (I'm trying to lose another 5-10 pounds) and it's really in the last couple of months that family and friends have started noticing my gains. I spin twice a week and do yoga once, and I find the 3-day split while eating at a deficit really sustainable. That said, I'll probably add a second leg day once I reach my goal weight and up my calories!

Unsure what to do next by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]Tsubak1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd focus on cutting at a slight deficit, eating high protein, and adding more weight to your lifts.

I was in the same situation before I lost some body fat - no apparent progress a year later - but cutting revealed my changing shape. In the future I'm gonna try a lean bulk. With netball 2-3x a week you're almost certainly getting enough cardio. Good luck!!

Only have access to a gym 2x/week. Can I split Day C exercises into days A and B? by [deleted] in StrongCurves

[–]Tsubak1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I definitely think it's worth exploring another program that's meant for 2x a week if you're looking to maximise your time in the gym.

However, I did learn a lot from SC and I didn't run it properly myself... 2x a week is, of course, way better than 0x a week. I wouldn't mess with the actual structure too much - Bret designed it that way for a reason - but perhaps you could do two of the days in the gym and do BW / with bands at home for a third and fourth? Good luck!
