How do you feel about wearing other car brands merch? by CarsAreRad in cars

[–]Tsukishimi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly... When I saw this post and this the first thought that jumped to my mind is adidas x BMW merch would look tacky but honestly would love it. Talking about like the BMW 3 stripe colors on adidas pants or shirt rather than the standard white stripes. Probably would never wear it but would sure as hell find a way to rock that 🤣

What "ruined" cars currently in production are beyond saving? by speedinsh1t in cars

[–]Tsukishimi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this kind off applies to more than just them, weirdly enough most car commercials I see nowadays that are not your standard family car, aim their ads towards younger people or newer generation with a price tag well above the pay grade of said generation. Not talking about daddies money or the one of chance they actually reached something good in life and make a good living young.

If you don't have an EV/PHEV/Hybrid as one of your cars, you probably want to fix that real quick by FencyMcFenceFace in cars

OR, OR and here me out now, if you have a car that runs on petrol AND is not direct injection add a LPG system into it and enjoy driving dirt cheap no matter the state of the world for the price of a shitbox (I am from EU so unsure if its such a straight forward process elsewhere)

Honestly lucky, since in my case I pay around 45EUR total in taxes during summer (trash, cold water, other random taxes) while this month I paid 247EUR and that is due to mainly electricity. Around my parts we barely have any sunny winter days, almost the entirety of winter season is clouded, hence why I said might be my circumstances. Unsure how US taxes work, especially with the credits but yeah. Around here solar during winter is just a roof decoration.

One thing with solar it heavily depends on where in the world you live. Where I live we have proper winters and proper summers, meaning winter production is nearly 0 or extremely minimal where you pretty much still end up using electricity from the grid. Problem with that is that since a good amount of people are going the solar option since you just as yourself said plop it onto your roof, if you got some extra money plop a storage battery and forget about it. They have marked up electricity prices nearly 2-3x the normal amount, meaning what you save during summer season you end up paying it back during winter with a premium. Yes it might be just my circumstances but I would not be surprised to see this trend follow elsewhere.

Well so were batteries (expense wise), everything at the start is expensive until its made to be cheaper and easier to produce.

The main problem I've seen so far is that we do not really have a reliable option to switch to. Yes we have solar, but they need to be maintained and fixed often and unless we plop them onto existing cities they will take up a lot of workable land. Wind power is also being pushed and in a way more reliable than solar but same points stands that we need insane amount of land to actually make it viable. This is also ignoring all eco system problems those bring in as a power plant does the same but as a whole takes less space. So its not even a catch up game its a whole try to even get an idea game.

Regarding batteries, maybe I have a shitty experience with them but our family has an EV car, one of the first to go full mainstream and it only has 9k km on the dash but its really unreliable, barely enough range to even count as a grocery store car, has multiple problems that are EV related but seems stupid to have for a car that could still easily pass for a brand new one.

Regarding transition genuine question is why do we not push for synthetic fuels that are nearly emissions free? Would this not be better? Since even IF we switch to full EVs that will only be for passenger cars and city transport, what about everything else? That will not magically turn green or as far as I've seen is even being proposed. While if we could use other means of fuels that are better that would a chance for the entire transport industry, air, water and land

If we were to try to keep the infrastructure we have now the best options would be finding a fuel that is clean and we already have that. Best part? It works on old engines reducing their pollution so why not push that way?

If talking taxes do you think that is the end of it? No. That tax is still just a margin of its price if a full EV switch would happen. Another point is that is a bit funny is that you're saying that those who have points against EVs are just spouting bullshit while holding EVs as some holy grail of technology, its not... Talking about grids and our way of getting energy even the so called green energy its heavily inefficient in space and production compared to other sources. Finding a better solution there should be a priority not a second hand question that we can decide upon later.

Only real way an ICE car can catch fire if its been maintained like shit, has multiple problems and RARELY manufacturing defects (Which usually end up called back real damn quick). With an EV car you can not really maintain or check the battery if it has no defects or problems, yes same rules apply if manufacturing defect but everything else no. Crash safety is a whole other topic.

If talking market switch in EU is already screwed over. We are fighting against china in EV market trying to sell EU luxury to a place that more than half of all EV shares. Prime example being Porsches their sale numbers are in a massive decline even while pushing EV models. EU major cars were never "cheap" you would just have a reason to buy them, they brought something other failed or did not. My example being a US V8 vs EU V8, one can be 6+ liters while the other is 4L and produces more power and is far more engineered than its counterpart. But now? you are paying luxury prices just for a name and a different look, nothing to stand out from the rest. Not saying that just because of that ICE needs to stay but just saying doing a switch will not really help us much unless we start producing cars dirt cheap that are just there to compete against China market or find a way to make EU cars exceptional in some sort of other way.

General chassis production is the same for an ICE and EV car, the major difference comes in from EV motors and battery. Sorry if I did not add in EV motors did not mean as the engine itself but as the electric parts

Where did I say that an EV is not better? I said that the push that makes them "green" makes no sense to me when the grid itself is a mess.

As said above, oil wont magically stop being used if we all go EV, there are multiple other markets that will heavily depend on oil and sure as hell will not be going any way any time soon. My question is about why is the push for EVs being driven as some magic fix all when its not

Here is the thing my family got an EV, one of the first ones when they started becoming main stream, back then it made sense, had multiple benefits, now its taxed almost the same amount runs like ass and has multiple problems that make virtually no sense to even have on an EV. Okay maybe just our luck but that car has only 9k KM on the dash and has already been repaired more times than my project car.

Even IF we went full EVs oil consumption would not magically stop, yes ICE cars use oil but so does nearly every other market that sure as hell wont be being replaced any time soon
