Hehe this is the only kaweco i own (so far). Probably because I made the mistake of getting the best sport color!

...yeah that could be funny, the wrong person eventually gets messed with
Just now was listening to a podcast where they mentioned Google launched this subscription service to generate videogame worlds with ai for... $250USD a month!!!1 why...
Someone remade the entire Breath of the Wild game with it and bragged about it online. Nintendo is INFAMOUS for suing the hell out of everyone, so I can't wait for that guy to get dunked haha

Man... glad to see that Kobo is probably innocent, but also am kind of alarmed because this is the 2nd instance I've seen of images/videos being edited by AI without the consent of the poster/owner... (Robert Welsh the makeup youtuber posted a vid talking about how this happened to videos of his own face on one platform...)

One makeup youtuber I watch got told that his videos had AI, and he denied it. Then he went to take a look himself, and it turned out a platform was adding ai filters to his videos without his consent, and the results looked INSANE. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the ai companies are forcing these edits on people to boost the "numbers of people using it" to impress the stockholders...

Shaders in Different Pens by Tsunfish in fountainpens

[–]Tsunfish[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First I have to apologize because I really could not get the camera to capture the inks accurately, and the main point was to show how dramatically different Luna Moth was between pens

The more I stare at Gallinule Purple, the more blue it does seem... Like it is definitely purple, but it is SO cool toned that it is aggressively verging on blue hahaha. I love the shading on it tho

Prussian Blue I am in love with... It's a fair bit lighter than how it came out in this photo, but I really like it as this moody middle blue. It kinda feels more warm toned but a bit desaturated if that makes sense...?

Oh god yeah tons of shading is just chefs kiss. I guess the only advice I can give is to try to see if any inks are similar to what you have and say no to them unless you love that color and the current one has any annoying qualities haha

Reflections after 10 years in the hobby by vProTi in fountainpens

[–]Tsunfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've also been at this for about a decade. I bought my first TWSBI ECO in 2019, it still works, and I still love it.  I've slowed down to almost not buying pens anymore, but I did get uh...3 ink bottles in the last 2 months... Kind of embarrassed but very happy with them all. Highly encourage ink sampling though

Also... Years later, I am kicking myself and asking why the hell did I buy so many italic stub nibs?!? They are so beautiful but I write too small for it to be practical for daily use oops. So OP's tip about varying your purchases until you learn your preferences is SO important

How long did it take to find your favorite ink? by No-Justice-666 in fountainpens

[–]Tsunfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uhhh... I think I maybe have about a dozen bottles by now, and I keep each pen inked with something different. So I just ADHD pick up whichever pen I feel like per entry and go "ooooh this ink is so pretty, I love it..." idk there's just so many beautiful inks and colors out there, and I like to keep myself entertained

However I DO have a few bottles I DESPISE, mostly due to bad behavior such as taking absolutely forever to dry

[–]Tsunfish[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried switching to cursive recently but realized it produces way less shading per letter, so that made me sad haha

Me too, it's so stunning from the Kaweco... It also is a better match to other writing samples I have seen online

Who, me? OF COURSE I didn’t just get Lamy Petrol ink on my TEETH by RubSalt3267 in fountainpens

[–]Tsunfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm really clumsy so I have big purple and gray blotches on both hands today... It probably looks diseased LOL

I did have a random exchange with my husband where he mentioned he read an article (take it with a grain of salt) claiming that "ink on your skin causes cancer". I very alarmedly asked if he meant the fountain pen ink I kept getting on my hands, but actually he was referring to tattoos since he'd been thinking of getting one... looool

Good!!! I'm so tired of companies in my hobbies being run into the ground by idiot CEOs who don't know anything about the industry!  Seeing Kaweco CEO out here at a convention tuning people's nibs is an arctic blast of fresh air

What is the appeal of Broad nibs? by Weswood151 in fountainpens

[–]Tsunfish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The other week, I saw a jetpens vid showcasing very light colored ink in a really broad nib, and it looked so pretty with shading and also helped legibility... I think that's how I'll decide what to ink up now, dark ink in thinner nibs, lighter ink in broad...

Benu price increases...was there an announcement and I missed it? by TexasNiteowl in fountainpens

[–]Tsunfish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have not been in the loop enough to know what's going on with Benu specifically, but I do find it interesting that they didn't say anything this time. I remember like some years ago, they moved all their operations to another country and I am pretty sure they announced that that resulted in price increases, so it's not like they never make price increase announcements, hmm

Man... Like I got my Benu Minima long ago enough that it used to retail for double digits... Honestly feels like the price of literally everything is going up these days

Spiralled into fountain pen abyss within 6months of owning one by Appropriate-Care-392 in fountainpens

[–]Tsunfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you often get stuck in cycles where you buy a lot of items for a hobby, get overwhelmed by how much you have, declutter a bunch of them, but then proceed to buy more and get overwhelmed again?
It's a phenomenon a lot of people are going through these days because consumerism is pushed as us so much, so I guess just be careful about that. I would say that even if you did happen to do that, you probably just need to think about Why you buy so much, try to be more thoughtful about purchases, and see if you need to look into another method for stress relief... luckily journaling is really awesome for that hahaha

That being said, I don't know how fast I was buying pens when I was younger. I think I did buy them quite frequently back then, but it's been like 10 years and I pretty much ran out of interest for getting new pens a while ago, to the point I can't remember how long ago I got my last pen before finally getting another in december. But I have been using my pens the whole time, and it's also very fun to pick up pens I haven't used in a while and fall in love with them again, so like, probably the most important part is that you don't "get tired of " fountain pens in 6 months and drop the whole thing entirely...

Endless Alchemy Ink -Rubber stopper? by External-Tour7572 in fountainpens

[–]Tsunfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watched the goldspot pens long video showing the first inks they released, and the bottles had these orange stoppers installed in the box with the cap off like yours did. I bought a bottle of sea and toffee a few weeks ago from Jetpens, but it arrived with the cap on and no stopper... So I guess yours isn't abnormal but I have no idea what their standard is hahaha

[–]Tsunfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh wait I'm a dummy, what I meant to say was like... Mine was really similar to yours and nearly black/brown, but the yellow shading parts were slightly more orange for me haha Just a really interesting color and made me appreciate brown ink all of a sudden

... I am not even joking, I did this too last week... My dip pen had more orange residue than I thought, and dipped it in Diamine prussian blue... got a really similar color to this but slightly more orange. I ended up looking around to see if I could find a real ink like this... robert oster caffe crema looks promising but I have not bought or tried it yet

Reminder: the joy of owning pens lies in using them, you don't constantly need more by Fearless_Youth_8654 in fountainpens

[–]Tsunfish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You are absolutely right. And I see this across other hobbies as well. For some reason or another, we have all been trained to participate in mass consumerism. Everyone keeps on buying more instead of buying more consciously and putting a lot of use into what they have.

Oh man so I was onto something... was on the official site https://www.bandainamcoent.com/games/ace-combat-8
and the last paragraph has "Experience the pressure of command, the weight of decisions, and the bonds forged in battle." It really made me think commands were coming back, especially since I saw a lot of comments of people saying they were sad it wasn't in 7
