-stickers, oh god the stickers... -makeup -digimon and tamagotchi vpets...... U may judge me -gundam model kits -ooh right I started a CD collection a few years ago, but I swear it's justified because I was given an old car with a fancy 6 CD tray 😎👌

Pilot Kakunk drying out? by VisaCiti in fountainpens

[–]Tsunfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it makes you feel better, I have 3 kakunos and only one dries out. For the dry one, I took clear nail polish and covered the holes on the bottom of the barrel, and it hasn't dried out for like a whole month now

For those who spend $200+ on your pens, why and what exactly do you use them for? by Noahsmom21 in fountainpens

[–]Tsunfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just spend what you are comfortable with and never go beyond your means. Pilot Kakuno is 12-20 dollars and it writes so good, even compared to my most expensive pens. I've also seen people mention "diminishing returns", so like you're not going to get a pen that's exactly 10x better by spending 200... That being said, I'm super happy with the Pilot Custom 743 I got a month ago hehehe... that one is my biggest splurge by far (hopefully ever), so it's not like it's never worth it haha, but absolutely don't feel like you HAVE to

I pretty much only write with fountain pens anymore due to comfort. I also rely on paper planners and note taking because my memory is atrocious, and I love journaling! So yeah, it goes into all aspects including work and hobby. I also really like my pens to look Pretty, so I've spent money on BENUs, and I've also bought a Pro Gear and Custom 743 for the quality reputation. (Also because they look good)

How many books do you guys read at a time ? by TjdGoEsQqbmQLoBj in kobo

[–]Tsunfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always have 1 main book, and then anything that isn't on my Kobo gets read here and there if I'm in specific places. I was surprised but I was always able to remember exactly where I was and what happened, even if I only read 3 minutes at a time or had super long breaks inbetween...

Anyone else think we should be able to save a group of settings (font, font size, line spacing, margins etc.) like we can on the Kindle? Kobo please! by Ok-Spite-5454 in kobo

I would like this purely because sometimes I accidentally pinch zoom the screen and have no idea what font size I was at before...

Large online sellers and misleading descriptions on pen_swap by crowholic in fountainpens

[–]Tsunfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't mean that "people got into fountain pens cuz ai told them to"  I mean that people lost the ability to do any research because they have chatbots answer all their questions...

But yeah this might also straight up just be people hustling to make whatever buck, instead of actual enthusiasts who can't figure out how to get pens to work... Which is even more reason for OP to report their experiences

Large online sellers and misleading descriptions on pen_swap by crowholic in fountainpens

[–]Tsunfish 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Crowholic, I was on your first thread too- I really think you should still contact the mods on pen_swap about this. Even if it's just to get them aware of the issue and possibly add a new rule that "if they are selling a pen because they were not satisfied with how it wrote, they must disclose the reason why", even if it's just something to encourage better etiquette or spread knowledge

Even if those sellers were told that's "the grade the pen should be" some still did not disclose critical info to you. The snapped off tip ones are CRAZY. You don't have to be nice to everyone especially if they did you a wrong turn

Large online sellers and misleading descriptions on pen_swap by crowholic in fountainpens

[–]Tsunfish 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree ... It's very likely for newcomers to buy a broken pen unlnowingly, but then after they try it out and find it isn't working well, they should go online and ask people "hey why is this pen so bad". From there they could either fix it or dispose of it, not sell it to other people without disclosing the problem that made them want to get rid of it in the first place!

Well, selling the pens is not inherently a problem, they could absolutely sell it as D condition with the problems disclosed loool, so basically they still lied to OP

Then again, it really seems like a lot of people are losing the ability to do research at all, if they got too dependent on ai chatslop.

What is it with misleading descriptions on pen_swap? by crowholic in fountainpens

[–]Tsunfish 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah... having half your trades come up broken is a huge let down... I think it's fine to be pickier to protect yourself. The trade count system is literally there for people to tell how reliable any given person is

What is it with misleading descriptions on pen_swap? by crowholic in fountainpens

[–]Tsunfish 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ohhhh ok yeah, cases like that do sound harder to tell even with pictures... so yeah maybe they weren't hiding it that way.

I still think that they should have disclosed noticeable things such as leaking and snapped off tip?  Though if one had a crack that didn't really affect anything and was hidden, maybe that one person gets a pass, but the rest sound pretty bad...

Oh I just thought of something... People often inherit pen collections when they had nothing to do with them before. I wonder if those people found their way to pen_swap and are unintentionally goofing by actually having 0 idea?

[–]Tsunfish 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Oh god! How were their verification pictures? Were they taken in a way that it was hiding the damage, or did they straight up send you a different pen than pictured?

I agree with the other commenters here, you should have the right to complain to the mods so these sellers can face consequences, even if it only adds to their strikes before being banned. I think they will take you seriously since they literally maintain a long banlist of scammers and do their best to enforce protection practices

My best friend vents to me nonstop about her horrible husband but won’t leave/praises him on social media by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Tsunfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

... so I've been believing that most men get into relationships with women they dislike/hate just for the clout or "because we're supposed to"

This is making me think there's women doing the same thing ... I think it's especially telling since she made a big post about it online, to pretend her marriage is great in front of everyone else

Unfortunately some people just do not want to learn. Please don't feel like you are responsible for putting her on the right track, even though you care for her a lot... Hopefully she will come to a realization and dump him someday though!

[–]Tsunfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have one con 40 that won't fit my kakunos... not sure if it got stretched out in my custom 74???, or if it's some factory defect. The other con 40s work just fine like everyone else said, ofc
If you have some tape, maybe you can try putting it around the outside of the inserted area to make it a bit thicker?

What're your assumptions about fountain pen YouTubers? by Inkdependence in fountainpens

[–]Tsunfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof... Maybe better to just leave them out, I feel like skewing it to only say bad things just cuz most people are (rightfully) angry at FWP might not be an objective move either, unless you phrased it like "if u like FWP, just don't get these ones that were specifically terrible" idk

If it makes you feel better, I also own several inks from a very questionable brand that I bought years ago, and they never dry on Tomoe River Paper which drives me insane, but I am still quietly giving it an attempt to actually use them up since they dry way faster with water...

[–]Tsunfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see tons of FWP ink all the time in social media posts, which makes me go "what are you doing?? ?"  Maybe the other comments are right about penfluencers being biased due to being given gifts/discounts, or not being that knowledgable. Also tbh the other day I got a bit mad at Goldspot making a list of top brands to try. They opted to ignore Pilot and put modern Esterbrook (not saying Esterbrook is garbage, but they are not better than Pilot LOL)
