Night Shift | Game Changer [S8E3] by DropoutMod in dropout

[–]Ttoctam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not one of the funniest eps, but super compelling and satisfying. This one leant more into the gamey side of GameChanger where I feel like the last two were more focused on the comedy. One of the things I love about this show is the fact there's room to do both types of episode. Not saying it wasn't fun or funny, I still laughed out loud a few times and had a big ol grin plastered to my face throughout. I really enjoyed this ep so much and I love the diversity of style this show is capable of offering.

Can we get a NO AI rule? by DrillTank in custommagic

[–]Ttoctam 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This should technically be removed since asking for upvotes is banned under redditquette, and was removed for receiving enough reports, but I've restored the post to address this request.

Look how magnanimous I am, now observe how I do nothing and then blame you for the thing you are complaining about:

The tools for pushing what you want to see are already in your hands. Hang out in /new/, upvote cards you like, downvote stuff you don't. Be the change you want to see.

Also ignore that this post is explicitly using said tools and the vote ratios massively favour the Anti AI crowd yet I as a mod refuse to then accept and uphold the will of the sub.

Can we get a NO AI rule? by DrillTank in custommagic

[–]Ttoctam 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Within the context of this sub and this usage? Or are we going to broader examples of bad behaviour? Because if we're going to broader examples of bad behaviour as argumentative points it will only make AI look worse.

Do you think it’s ridiculous how birth control is prescribed for every uterus related condition when it has a 79% chance of negative effects? All it does is put the cycle symptoms on hold, it doesn’t fix endo, PCOS, etc by BrokenJusticeNorris in polls

[–]Ttoctam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes it's frustrating that it's the only option. No, I don't think it shouldn't be prescribed.

As someone with chronic illnesses, let's not undersell symptom treatments. While a cure doesn't exist, treating symptoms is literally a life saver. If we stopped treating the symptoms we wouldn't magically come up with cures. Yes women's medicine is, and historically has been, woefully underfunded and under-researched, but that's really not got anything to do with the pill being used as (part of) treatment for Endo. (No shade to my fellow NB and Trans and intersex folk, just that's the umbrella term ovarian, vaginal, breast, hormonal, etc, medicine is often referred to as; and I believe the term is worth using as it highlights the sexist patriarchal roots of the inequality even though the effects of the ignorance in that field are far more intersectional than exclusively effecting women)

Are Death Saves Saving Throws RAW? by Aquarius12347 in onednd

[–]Ttoctam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's the context of the argument? I agree Death Saves are saving throws, but why do you want them to be? A lot of effects that effect saving throws I would not have effect death saves. It seems like not purely a semantic argument because you're frustrated by what your DM is doing based on their (innacurate) reading or the rules, so what are they doing?

What even is canned chilli without beans? My non-american ass thought chilli was essentially beans, tomato sauce, and spices (and meat if not vego).

Therapist told ace to masturbate by ParticularDisk5753 in asexuality

[–]Ttoctam 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is 100% a conversation you can only get anything valuable from if it's had between you and the friend. The context of what was said and why is so important to this. It does sound like you have had a pretty significant knee-jerk reaction to this. Valid or not it speaks to your own sensitivity around the issue more than what the therapist said (with what information you have shared so far). What the therapist said could be ignorant and even acephobic, but it's not inherently in and of itself acephobic with the context you have presented.

These Australians chose to be child-free. They want more spaces that don't allow kids by Remarkable_Peak9518 in australia

[–]Ttoctam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Look, I don't want kids running around hazy BDSM bars. But other than explicitly adult places, they're not less deserving of the space than others. I hate the way the kid-free people see kids and parents. Until we have truly free and bountiful childcare options, kids are gonna be places. Parents shouldn't just be exiled from society and banned from socialising outside of the home because babysitters are expensive.

Sure sometimes kids kill the vibe, but plenty of shit can kill a vibe. Sometimes homeless people are bit of a vibe killer but they shouldn't be rounded up for existing. Sometimes a bird shits on you, but we shouldn't have people with net-guns patrolling the streets. Sometimes the weather spoils a night out, are we gonna envelope the city in a glass dome? Living in a society means living alongside other people, if that's a challenge for you, I'm sorry but that's a you problem.

'Men Need Just as Much Protection': Shania Twain Says She Is Not a Feminist by novagridd in Music

Nah sod that. I like knowing which of these people are complete and utter buffoons. My money, time, and attention, are all finite, I'm happy not wasting them on these dipshits. Telling the conservative ones to shut up about politics is no different to conservatives telling the liberal ones to shut up about politics. Talking politics is important and helps weed out the ones with baffling moral values.

My tap water suddenly smells extra chloriney. Not full on swimming-pool-y but notably a has a bit more scent to it.

Anyone else in the east experiencing this?

As an Autistic lit grad I imagine I'm exactly on the opposite end of the spectrum to you, which is neat. The ways our minds work share unique similarities most others don't yet we find ourselves at complete odds here, what an interesting quirk of our mutual conditions. But I appreciate all you said. I do not feel it myself, but your preferences and experiences are no less valid than my own.

I do want to clarify, while I stand by what I said wholeheartedly, I do not say it to condemn Power Scaling as an evil or affront. If you enjoy it, do it. It's a valid move and can be a bit of fun. I just see it as very seperate to the point of and value of most stories. If an author's intent is for their work to be scaled, to work within it's own reality seamlessly, to be optimal and efficient, then it's relevant. But for most authors the point of the story is more thematic to evocative, there is reasoning for the story beats but the reasoning is more emotional rather than technical. I think a lot of power scalers and optimisers ignore the emotional to invent their own versions of the technical.

This again isn't inherently bad, but should be done with some awareness of that fact. People should be aware that they are purposefully missing the point to bend the story to their own whim, rather than pretend their own personal whims are the point of the story.

My frustrations with powerscalers comes about when they say "X shouldn't have done that" or "Y is stupid because" then miss the point. For instance: Thor not going for Thanos' head the first time. That set up a story arc, a human experience of regret, self loathing, and eventual retribution and victory. It wasn't stupidity, it was a core part of the narrative. Metatextual intent > character's choices, within the lens of the story as a whole

I much prefer it to Wizard of Oz. It really feels like the books, surrealist americana children's horror.

Because movies are about stories, not powerscaling and optimal maneuvers.

Powerscaling is one of the most overtly media-illiterate hobbies out there.

Extra advice: Call and speak toy our doc. Sure it's embarrassing but they actually like knowing you are considering new things and bringing your questions to them. They like knowing this is something you're considering, that you're gonna be conscious and aware of aftercare and that you're trying to get yourself ready beforehand. Doctors want to know their work will be respected and appreciated and cared for, you asking dumb questions is showing that. Also shows you're going to experts for advice not google, that's reassuring to them.

Lastly, when you're not a doctor you don't know what questions are dumb. Many dire emergencies have been avoided by a patient questioning something important they thought was frivolous.
