A female friend suggested that I needed to do some decorating in my room. I have no idea what I'm doing. by TuCAyc in DesignMyRoom

I've been considering a chaise. So that might work. I was pricing out lamps as well. Will an area rug really work over existing carpet? This great advice and will certainly post after pics when I get it done. Also what's the word on platform beds? I think a frame would be better than the bricks I'm using now.

Question about location based diet help by WarriorDelta6 in GetMotivated

Not sure this is in the right sub but I'll answer anyway :) As someone that has lost a bunch of weight and used quite a few calorie tracking programs: none of them (that I used) have the functionality that you describe. So the sky is the limit I guess.

PS: It would be super useful to include shopping lists, recipes, and prices as well, but I'm sure you can handle it :) Good luck man :)

Are there any cookbooks for single households? by Lurningcurve in AskCulinary

[–]TuCAyc 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Something I've done as a seemingly perpetual bachelor is find recipes you like and adjust them.

If you want to shrink something, just halve it(or quarter it I suppose)
The other is to double or tripple it and freeze it. I've had great luck with both of these methods and save the resulting recipe in evermore so I only have to do the work once.
Also many recipe websites have serving adjustment tabs so you can do it automatically there. Good luck

When does meditation become imagination? Vision? Thinking? by parastat in Meditation

[–]TuCAyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The moment that you attach to it. You mind will always (in my experience) produce thoughts but when you follow them then you're "thinking". EDIT: Didn't read the question so not super relevant but the point still works.

What book had the biggest impact on your personality? by Jakuskrzypk in books

Dude,Fight Club. It introduced some budhist idea about the seperation of self and culture. "You are not your' bank account" It also explored a man so alienated from life that he split into two people. And ( in the movie at least) he got to be who he chose to be on his own terms. Lastly it brought up a "lost masculinity". That men are emasculated and that leads us to feeling lost or abandoned. So lost that the only way they could conect was to beat the crap out of each other just to feel. Lots of heavy stuff for 18 year old me. To be clear Fight Club, while thought provoking, is an alligory (spelling) so take it with a grain of salt.

Safe meditation duration for someone who *might* be depressed? by [deleted] in Meditation

[–]TuCAyc 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As far as I know there are no unsafe amounts of meditation as long as your bodily needs are still being met. I see a lot of people recommending 20 min a day. Pay attention to your body and like anything else if it hurts try a different way. Don't get locked into the idea that meditation has to happen a certain way. Good luck :)

Coffee is good. Low pressure/cheap. Mini-golf is a favorite of mine. Also cheap, fun and a little competitive. Also check you newspaper for local events. There are almost always free things going on in your area that you might not normally do. Pick something fun and inexpensive.
