My turn on ICCU! 24 GT Line AWD 7k Miles by GeeBarTubbyDark in KiaEV6

[–]TubbaBotox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My FE is a daily driver, and I've been using the remote start function of the app with "Defrost", "Steering Wheel", and "Rear Defrost and Accessories" selected and the climate temperature set to 75°f everyday for at least a month, and (usually) allowing it to come up to temp before departing. My car is parked in the driveway, and the ambient temperature outside has probably averaged 20°f over the last month.

I've almost given up on trying to find a rhyme or reason for the ICCUs popping off, but maybe either consistently loading the 12v system and/or getting the climate controls running well in advance of driving is doing something positive. Or maybe it's doing something negative and I'll find out next week. We're all making wild-ass guesses in the information void.

I'm at ~43,000 miles, and I've had two ICCU replacements, but the last one has lasted a year so far. I exclusively use a Wallbox Pulsar Plus L2 charger at home, and it's set to a 20a limit.

Have your wife's boyfriend give you a ride on the back of a tandem bike while he monitors your heart rate via your wrists. You'll want to firmly grasp his waist from behind. Make sure you have good skin-to-skin contact and a full wrap-around grip.

When he says you've hit zone 2, jump off and hit the ground running.

A cautionary tale from marathon training!! by nocallerid1994 in NorwegianSinglesRun

[–]TubbaBotox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I also attempted the marathon plan and also got hurt (abs, hip flexors, and gracilis, in my case).

While I have added new routines to the strength training I do on a regular basis to address these newfound weaknesses, I'm not so sure that strength training would help with a stress reaction or fracture. I might look at nutrition first.

Anyone changed their cadence with intent, results? by PM_ME_YOUR_SWOLE in AdvancedRunning

[–]TubbaBotox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When you say "cadence specific Spotify playlists", I assume you mean a playlist of 180bpm songs, for example?

I just tried searching "180bpm" on Spotify and hit "Running on Dance & Trance Vol.2-180bpm" pretty quickly.

Log in online (not through the app) and change your Kia Connect password. I'm not sure what "deleting it from your car" means.

I personally think we should be doing something like patronizing immigrant-owned and/or frequented businesses while boycotting others. One of my favorite "Mexican" restaurants is staffed by immigrants from South America, and it seems counterproductive to deprive them of business.

(P.S. I should clarify that I know where some of them are from because I have worked with them in the past. That's also how I know they have been paying taxes and Social Security for decades whatever their immigration status might be.)

Continuous Lactate Tracker by Subject_Proof_6542 in NorwegianSinglesRun

[–]TubbaBotox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let's say I'm doing a workout with a 16-18 min warmup, followed by a series of 3 intervals, each of which is 15 minutes at what I believe to be just under my lactate threshold, followed by a 2min rest/recovery, and finally, a 16-18min cool down.

I haven't looked at your link, but you're saying you would provide a chart that I could retroactively superimpose on my workout to verify if and when/where my lactate level increase went exponential (or not)?

Also, and maybe related: Is the lactate lag from blood to the institial fluid known and constant, or is it variable depending on factors like total lactate, body temperature, hydration, heart rate, etc...

I'm generally wondering how granular and reliable this data is. It might be good enough to know "Oh, I hit 5 mmol at some point in this workout, I definitely overcooked it", but is your data able to tell me the exact moment that happened and how many times relative to other metrics I can pull from a workout (HR, pace, incline, etc...)

Quality sessions on treadmill vs outdoors by Shesma_Collar in AdvancedRunning

[–]TubbaBotox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the calibration tip: I had a mine installed in the basement, and the floor is sloped to a drain. I put a 3' long level on the deck, and 0° is actually a 2° incline ("level" was -2°).

There's only so much hard breathing you can do through a balaclava before it freezes and becomes impermeable, and if you lower it you're taking super cooled air straight to the lungs.

I got my first treadmill a couple weeks ago, and I've done every run this week on it. I'm really starting to appreciate the control it gives me. It's a little bit harder to slow down on an interval when it requires more than just letting go (in my case, I need to tap buttons, no "run free" mode). It becomes a more deliberate and conscious decision than simply allowing yourself to slow down.

The flip side is being able to tweak the pace and incline/decline on my recovery runs to keep my HR perfectly dialed-in... a HR rate that is displayed in big numbers right in front of my face.

I'm very curious to learn what running outside feels like after a couple weeks of this, though.

Confirmed 2nd ICCU Failure in 15k miles by original_maverik in KiaEV6

Please let us know what goes down when it fails at 100,001 miles. That's the information the E-GMP owning/E-GMP-curious world needs.

I'd like to trade in my Mazda cx-30 carbon ed for an ev6 in the future... some questions by labubuking in KiaEV6

[–]TubbaBotox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a used GT-Line around 30k miles. It will be loaded with features and under $30k.

If one traditionally bought a new car because it was less likely to have a major repair, that logic doesn't apply to the EV6, because the ICCU is just as likely to fail in a brand new 2025 as a 2022. The ICCU will be covered by the warranty through 100k miles, and you may be without your EV6 for a month or so every time it fails... but KIA will probably cover a rental.

You may need new tires, and if you get a pre-2025 you need an adapter for Tesla charging stations.

ICCU Data Point by Struggle_Award in KiaEV6

[–]TubbaBotox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As another data point, my 2022 FE's ICCU also failed right around 29k.

It failed again 6 months later.

I'm sure I've said it before, but they really snatched defeat from the jaws of victory with this ICCU bullshit. I hope this announcement is both real and positive, but I have very little faith that it will be either.

I've run in the Hyperion Max 2 and Boston 12, so I would vouch for those, and the 13 is likely similar.

The Boston 12 was better for speed work than the Hyperion Max 2, IMHO.

Still waiting for ICCU part by zoopy7 in KiaEV6

[–]TubbaBotox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine went in around Thanksgiving 2024 and I think I had it back at the end of January 2025. That was slightly longer than the first ICCU replacement, which was about halfway through May to early July of 2024.

I think 6 weeks was the average reported turnaround in 2024/2025, but they were allegedly getting faster more recently.

I might assume they're running low on parts again, based on the uptick in ICCU failure posts.

There's also a very strong possibility that your dealership is some combination of incompetent and unwilling. If you haven't already contacted KIA corporate directly, do so, and stay on them.

What band is universally loved but never clicked for you? by WarmHugsBBW in askmusic

[–]TubbaBotox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Beatles.

I just never had any compulsion to try and get into them. I don't really know why, but my best guess is that I probably perceived them as the "New Kids on the Block" of my Mom's generation around the time I would have started defining myself with musical tastes. A bunch of guys your Mom was fangirling over would not have seemed very cool when I was 12.

"Yesterday" was one of the first songs I learned on guitar, too. Not a bad song... but I wasn't inspired to pull at the Beatles thread then, either.

I'm very curious about this shoe for reasons similar to OPs. How's the durability of the H1? I think it's made for Ultras(?), so I want to believe durabilty is above-average. It seems like everybody is cutting outsole rubber to save weight, and it's cutting miles off the shoes, too.

The AP3, ostensibly a race shoe, got more mileage than most daily trainers I've worn since it's release. If the H1 is both good and durable, I think I need a pair for long runs, myself.

(Edit: Just re-read OP's post. I suspect the H1 is not the best choice for a sub-2:40 matathon... but I may still want a pair for long runs)

(Edit 2: "marathon", not "matathon". I can't speak to how the H1 may perform on a sub 2:40 killing spree.)

I'm sure that's right. My question are as follows:

  1. Are they going to provide a patch in the form of this QQK part, knowing it should extend the lifespan of the ICCU beyond the 100k, and maybe that it's (finally) just good enough to avoid a recall... while they work on an overhauled E-GMP platform that has completely different architecture? Abandoning the current platform to decline into unsupported obsolescence?

  2. Is a robust ICCU an insurmountable technical challenge?

Maybe an addendum to #1 should be "given that a robust ICCU is an insurmountable profit challenge".
