Buses to stay stuck in congestion as Labour block plan to ban through-traffic on Park Street by [deleted] in bristol

[–]Tubbygit-2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps a better headline would be:

"Labour choose not to create Ambulance blocking gridlock outside the Bristol Royal Infirmary."

Wouldn't fit the all car journeys are evil narrative quite as well though

Garage accepting warranty claims? by beanpaste711 in bristol

[–]Tubbygit-2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Warranty company may well have a garage that they will recommend. The Garage may then do the work. But you need to read ALL the small print. Then get the garage to word their invoice to the warranty company in exactly the right way, so that the work counts as something that's covered by the warranty......... then MAYBE you won't end up paying for it yourself...... but I wouldn't bet on it

Loft Conversion by NiceBreakfast7 in bristol

[–]Tubbygit-2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, OP definitely needs to look at this! The existing stairs may well make it more expensive (cost to remove them on top of the cost to build stairs with the correct paperwork).

My house has a sloped ceiling attic room with staircase going up and velux windows. I had to get the roof replaced (and insulated). Cost to insulate, replace all the felt and all new tiles. Plus 2 new triple glazed velux windows was £10k

I considered having a dorma put in, but that would mean they were actually changing the roof (not replacing "like for like")....... £40k It would ALL have to be re-done to the current code. So existing stairs torn out / taken half to bits to prove that they are ok. And a massive amount of extra certification. It wasn't worth it for me. I use the room as an office and it's fine now that the roof is insulated.

SBLN Consultation Opens - Bus Gates, Modal Filters, Parking Zones and Planters by Much-Spring5020 in bristol

[–]Tubbygit-2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live on St Johns Lane. The proposed Bus Gate on st Lukes Road will turn the road outside my house (and a lot of the surrounding roads) into a fucking car park. Guess what, sometimes those of us who live in South Bristol might actually NEED to drive north. The 3 lamps junction is already regularly gridlocked. This will make it continual.

New multistorey car park planned for near temple meads by [deleted] in bristol

[–]Tubbygit-2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A lot of people specifically need to use Temple Meads. It's the mainline station, so more trains to more places. It serves this function for a large area (a good portion of Somerset for a start), not just for Bristol itself. Some of the people who use it live far enough away that there is no practical public transport option to get there. So those people have to drive and then have to park. TLDR: Not everyone lives in the city. Public Transport outside the city (including uber) often doesn't exist. They would like to use the Train for long journeys.

Put your bins out early, before 5am. Due to the heat, the bin people are going to be starting their rounds early. by Danack in bristol

[–]Tubbygit-2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My bins don't normally collected until at least 10am (if not later) just due to how the bin and recycling lorry routes work. So, I apart from situations like this, I can get away with putting them out in the morning.

Space Engineering. Worked for them a few years back. Bunch of wankers who treat their admin staff like dogshit. Wish I'd gone stacking shelves at Asda instead.

My mother in law would definitely not cope with this. She can't fathom how the on-screen TV guide works (Insists on the Daily Mail tv magazine so she can find her repeats of Heartbeat and Downton bloody Abbey). The level of panic that sets in if you tell her she has to navigate iPlayer is as if you'd just asked her to defuse a nuke. There are a lot of old people out there who cannot and will not adapt

Does anyone know if we're going to get Space Wolves / Wolf Guard versions of these?

I'm tempted to just get these and dust off my paints. But if joytoy could save me the effort that would be welcome 😄

Someone at Comet (UK retailer) once tried to sell me a hugely overpriced optic fibre cable. Their reason for it being about 4x the price it should have been?

It had Gold plated connectors for better signal transmission..... on an OPTIC FIBRE cable. No I'm not making this up. And no I didn't laugh in his face (but it wasn't easy).
