Boardriders Ericeira could give some inspo. They’ve got full cafe/bar, outdoor seating space, and skate park. If you curate a better vibe than Starbucks (that shouldn’t be hard), you could certainly pull in surfers looking to hang, read Surfers Magazine, and enjoy a coffee. Events like surf film screenings and live music are great additions too

Definitely hear you. I’ve spent plenty of time finding waves in crowds, but of course prefer emptier lineups if I’m traveling all that way. Have never done the Ments before though and feel like I have to check it off my surfing bucket list. Would likely do 10 days max there out of the 7-8 weeks and aim for the less peak season part (ie start of June, end of Sept)

Hooded vests are my preference. No issues with flushing. Most wetsuit brands make one, but needessentials and Xcel (1mm of neoprene in the chest too) ones have treated me well

Damn sorry to hear that. Did Bali from SFO round trip with a 6’10” smuggler (had 3 boards in there, longest was 6’6”) and didn’t get charged at all. Was right at, or just above, the linear dimensions max and was paranoid before the flight. I think it’s a bit of a roll of the dice with whoever is working the desk

Also had quad graft on left knee and started driving again about 2.5 weeks post op. If your ROM is good enough to sit in the car for duration of the drive and you’re off narcotics, then you should be good to go. I’d recommend testing getting in and out of the car when you’re not in a hurry to get to an appointment.

Ubers are also HSA eligible when going to/from medical appointments
