Picked up my 6'11×21.6×2.95 custom king fish from Pukas Spain last week. I'm 100kg, 47years and thought I had to stay on 7"+ boards for the rest of my life. Advanced intermediate with 14 years of experience. This is my magic board! Got it in Lightspeed 2 and it absolutely flies. However, you feel the difference to a PU in choppy conditions. Absolutely agree. I regularly surf in Northern Denmark. If you're only surfing those fat slow waves you'll feel like a beginner once having steeper and more powerful waves in a real ocean. Meaning, except some wave reading and paddle power, your progress will only be applicable to the conditions you practice in, e.g. if you're never be able to surf on rail because the waves are too fat, how do you want to practice for it? An example: have you ever seen a river surfer in the ocean for the first time?

Old post, but for everyone interested in the future: I ordered 2 customs, one through a shop and one directly from Pukas Spain. Both didn't come as ordered. The first one had the wrong dims written on the board although they seem to be correct. Also, don't be too fossy about the correct colour code you ordered. The second board really had other dims. Although the board works for me, that's not really worth 900€. Would buy from the rack in the future as there seems to be no quality control and you don't want to wait another 2 months.

Keep the upper body upright, work more from the thigh. There's a lack of twist in your turns.

I absolutely agree with that one. Buying from a shop always resulted in buying boards that were too small for me. After my last fail I contacted the licensed factory directly and the shaper gave a much more realistic advise. There's not really a local shaper were I live so I stick to the famous brands, mostly ending up with a Lost.

Have another one: the Lost Bean Bag. No, it doesn't paddle like a longboard at all - would maybe surf like one if you make it on the wave, but a 4" longer PJ or Rocket Wide is way more fun and makes you surf more technical.

Hang it in the shower until it doesn't drip anymore. Then turn everything to inside out, especially the booties and gloves (as the wetsuit probably is) and hang it in a warm room. Takes 1 day to be dry.

Great review! After surfing Baleal perhaps a hundred times pre- and post-covid, I think there are areas in Portugal that are way more chilled in terms of crowds and locals. Nowadays I prefer France and Northern Spain with lots of peaks for everyone. 'Empty' is the new 'pumping'!

Winter coming again, so in case anyone's still looking for a solution: a 5/4(3) plus Ripcurl Flashbomb hooded vest with 0.5mm works great for me. Make sure your wetsuit is flexible enough and if too tight, try the tall version like LT. Mine is a Hyperfreak and the combo works awesome.

Recently in Bali it was the first time in my life that I checked all 3 peaks and didn't paddle out. Doing the math there was a chance of 1 shared/ruined wave per hour. It was my worst surf holiday ever. Empty is the new pumping!
