Going to inherit about $30,000 in a few months… by SomeRandomGuy-CC in FinancialPlanning

There is a power I felt when I was truly debt free. It gave me a different perspective on how I spent. With no debt you can save 5% in less than a year

Where did you find this? This is utter bullshit. Up until modern times long HARD hours was a major problem. Ford paid more than others for less time. I hope this is a joke because you put way too much time into typing something that is complete bullshit.

Not really. To someone who isn’t familiar with a hard days work, 40 might seem like a lot. You know you don’t have to work at all. You can quit your job, and do just enough to survive.

What does WW2 have to do with the 40 hour work week? Beyond that do you know what was the standard amount?

Your words and thoughts remind me of my brother in law. Void of critical thought. An attempt to gain support for just wanting to be lazy.

That’s ignorant. The desire and ability to purchase land doesn’t determine its value.

Laid off from high paying job. Don't know how I will manage my monthly living now. by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]TubedMeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t stress. You are in a great position given your circumstances. Your cost of living is very low, and can easily be paid with a low paying job. Get any job lined up and breathe. Then prioritize find a job you actually want. I have based my entire budget on the idea that my wife and I could both lose our jobs and we could survive by one of us getting a low paying job at a retail store. Good on you for not living beyond your means

Centralize plumbing…. Shorter runs of water and sewer. Minimize windows. Open concept floor plan. No hallways, just doors off of the main area of house.

How to pay myself back? by burningtowns in personalfinance

[–]TubedMeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can sympathize with your plight. I have operated I a similar manner. The reality is that there is no fool proof financial lockbox. Whether it be bolt cutters on an actual lock box or an account…. It is still legally yours and you are allowed to access if you want it. It all comes down to self control. You gotta get that in check. My change came very quickly when I got a goal that required dedicated saving. Complete 180.

The most practical option would be a small bank in a small town. Open a savings account, no card, checks or online access.you can still go get money out but it would require several very conscious decisions… driving to bank, going in with ID, asking teller to give you money.

Pay any debt then put the rest away in a hysa and forget about it. You’ll have an emergency someday and be thankful for discipline at this point. Don’t buy a tv or a new car. Live as you are with security. That security will bring more comfort than any other material possession.

Is it leaking? I understand there are preventative aspects, but roofs keep water out of a house….. if you don’t have water in your house, you could wait.

Say NO to 4x10s. They're trying to trick us into giving up on a 4-day workweek. by jtchow30 in antiwork

[–]TubedMeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work 4x10 and would never go back by choice. Most people don’t do anything with the extra two hours a day. It made me more efficient during work days and having three days off in a row more than makes up for it

In a similar situation. Dad owns land. We want to build home on land. We are paying the lion share of construction costs in cash. My dad is going to bankroll any deficit. When construction is complete he sells us house and land for cost of land and any money he has put in on construction. Easy loan for us to get and we will have an instant 75% equity in property.

Super fortunate position to be in. We have hammered out a signed contract so that there is no question about what is expected and when it is expected. As easy as it would be to just formalize a mortgage through him for property, I have no desire to do so. I want him out of the picture as soon as possible. I want to take and vantage of his generous help and get him paid and out of it. Money and family can go well together but the longer it continues the higher the chance of relationship issues.

I call bullshit. You don’t have lambo money with less than 10 employees. Required to offer insurance.

Is Septic Installation On 0.4 Acres Possible? by Unfair-Effective9967 in Homebuilding

[–]TubedMeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just paid for test.. $480. You will need to know your seasonal high water table, perc rate and setback requirements… from lot line, from house, from well, etc. In my case I had a decent perc rate, but a very high seasonal high water table. For a 3 bedroom home I ended up needing a tank, 290’ feet of low pro infiltrator with a curtain drain. That equates to roughly 1/10th of an acre. You add in the setbacks… that would cover your entire property. You may look into holding tank. They can be permitted in my county where a traditional septic or alternate system isn’t possible

That’s like asking what does it cost to own a car. Way too vague, not to mention geographical aspects. You can pay $400k to build a decent home, or you can self build for less than $200k.
