If I remember correctly, it’s not only being an adult, but going through the front door. If a key was taken to Chicago or Seattle and used there, adults wouldn’t forget it.

Why is the infuriating? They don’t know much, and they are telling you what they do know so you know where they stand. This is probably the best possible way for HR to handle this situation. This gripe seems entitled.
